    Thank you for so much detail! It’s VERY hard to find artists who give this level of detail. So glad I found you!

    FYI the tub sharpener has 2 measuring holes for different applications. You don't need to use both to sharpen your tip. One is for sharp (drawing) the other is for blunt (writing).

    Thanks Tanner, Lots of good tips with the best for last. Drawing "with expression" is priceless.

    I agree. The kneaded eraser is very useful.
    I usually get more than one because graphite accumulates on the eraser and turns it very dark.
    I feel that this reduces its effectiveness.
    I like a clean eraser!

      I think there's a way to clean it! I saw a short once. I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes.

    Thanks for those great tips! I´ve been drawing for ages and I´m self-taught, but I always had the feeling that I wasn´t using these tools properly. Your video was really helpful!😊

    I use 2H and 2B. For areas were want things really dark I will use a Mitsubishi Uni dark pencil, like a 4B-8B. If i want a nice shaded area I will use a woodless graphite pencil.

    The 1st hole on the lead pointer is for sharpening to a blunter point. But I get why you would use that side first seeing that you're using a harder grade lead. Personally I can draw with anything harder than HB.

    Hi Tanner. With graphite works is it always necessary to use a fixative? Thanks for this vid by the way.

    • @tannersteedart
      @tannersteedart  Год назад +1

      The graphite can smudge or fall off the paper over time, so I choose to use fixative just in case.

    "the one that comes with the Staedtler lead holder"
    This is inaccurate. The lead pointer that "comes with" the lead holder is actually the thing on the back of the lead holder. It has a hole on it, that's a sharpener.
    The lead pointer you displayed is a separate purchase around 10 dollars.

    • @tannersteedart
      @tannersteedart  2 года назад +1

      Ah yes, yes it is. The sharpener is definitely worth the investment!

    Why do people call graphite in pencils lead

    • @tannersteedart
      @tannersteedart  2 года назад

      “pencil lead” is due to an historic association with the stylus made of lead in ancient Roman times.
