Bwoy, this is why I'm glad that I come from where town people call "country." We don't have any of this in Mandeville. I would rather live in Bush where I'm safe and comfortable in my house. I never have to worry about can't go here or there.

It's even harder than before for these innercity people to break the cycle of poverty through education. Those who are willing to study hard and go to college cannot do so because even the teachers colleges have become unaffordable for them. The hopelessness and despair in these communities is heartbreaking. I know some don't have the ambition to leave but I'm sure some do and can't find the means to do so. Does the government have programs to help impoverished students attend college?

I totally agree.
I lived my early years in a shanty. It was an earlier time, so the crime rate was low and people didn't leave trash around.
My mother was a single mother with three kids. She had more ambition than education (could barely read); she also had a vision for a better life.
At her workplace, there was an educated older black lady in the office with a nice home, so my mom saw how her own life could be. Her resourcefulness and very hard work resulted in us moving into a lovely house in a nice neighborhood. She later emigrated to the U.S. and was able to buy her own home and invest in a couple more.
Although I have more education, she beats me in ambition AND stamina.
