    Turbo 2 precleaners work well. Donaldson also makes them. John Deere sells the Donaldson ones as well. On our combine we like to use a cordless leaf blower to blow things off they work well to blow out air filters as they are high flow low pressure so the risk of damaging filters is low

    Right after Mount St Helens blew its top in 1980, I was trucking at the time and, out West, there was a lot of volcanic ash in Oregon, Idaho, and Washington even a few hundred miles from the actual mountain. We put pantyhose over the air intake on the trucks to act as a pre-filter. Worked great.

    Best i remember? Operator is supposed to check on things regularly. Maybe operator needs an air compressor to blow things off and out daily.

    Thanks Jeff for another great video. I wonder why they kept having a bunch of service calls/ had to desensitize the sensor/system. Electrical/placement issues or undersized filter system/poor precleaner (maybe all of these are factors??). Anyways, I think the Turbo II’s are the heaviest duty and are also very efficient. I’ve also used Donaldson TopSpins, which are very efficient as well, but at least some of the models are mostly made of plastic (you may be able to get metal
    versions, not sure) and I don’t think they are as tough as a result (however, they are a good deal lighter). The Turbo II’s are generally pricier per size.
    Have a good one.

    A blocked filter will make the engine run hot, it can’t have been quite blocked completely. Those filters have huge capacity for dust. I had one of those pre-cleaners with the screen on it on my header (combine to some) and the screen used to block up about every half hour in some conditions. Every unload would see me out there pulling the screen off and cleaning it. If I didn’t she would get hot. Never blow a filter out even though the temptation is great. Put a new one in.

    As the 336 is running watch if the dust flows over the hood close to the air intake on top of the hood . If it doe's raise up the intake pipe higher by 2' then add a predust cleaner that sucks out the dust out through the exhaust , they had some on Oliver 2255 tractors with the v8 CAT engines . Other tractors use the same system with good results . The Oliver pre cleaner was on the top of the intake pipe and the suction hose ran down through the hood to the exhaust pipe up the center of the exhaust to blow dust out the exhaust .

    G'day Jeff. Love your videos. Keep em coming!.
    Is there any point in raising the level of your air intake to as high as possible, for example to the top or the cab? Most trucks that work dirt roads here in Australia, have the intake almost at roof level, and some actually on the roof, to try and get out of the dust as much as possible. Just saying.

    Everyday. It takes time but it's cheap than dusting an engine and over heating. Just my two cents.

    with your “legendary” close type relationship, and being on a first name basis and all with those “CAT” engineers (not).., you could provide valuable input to them about how “F’ed-up” their thinking is on allowing 50 pounds of dirt & debris to become built up in all the filters, before any warning…, absolutely unbelievable…!
    BTW, I saw the 14G there feeling kinda left out, hope you give her some attention (video footage of her in action out there).

  • @geedubb2005
    @geedubb2005 2 месяца назад

    There’s always a little debate and opinions on cleaning air filters. Some say that frequent removal and re-installation increases the chances of dust getting in the intake or an improper seal. Some say that blowing a filter out daily can weaken the integrity of the filter media, ultimately allowing dust to penetrate it.
    You have to find a happy medium for the application. You have to trust the person that’s cleaning/changing it. I wouldn’t want just anybody cleaning/changing air filters in my equipment.
    A restriction gauge will certainly help. I’m surprised Cat didn’t send a letter out.
    All my equipment had gauges, and even they required maintenance sometimes
    Dust is the enemy. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jeff had a little prayer meeting over this.

    • @Failure_Is_An_Option
      @Failure_Is_An_Option 2 месяца назад

      Manufactures are the ones making the statements... not they, not them. Companies like Donaldson, CAT, Fleetguard test the resuls. They are the ones dealing with warranty. Once a filter is installed it is to remain in place for the duration. Every imprint is a potential leak.

  • @kurtzbradley

    I have a question, Jeff. In New England, there are stone walls just everywhere from who knows when; I asked about them one time and the response was that as the farmers worked their fields, the stones popped up and were moved to the edges of the field and they built those walls with them. I see where you live, there is the same situation with just enormous amounts of stones popping up in the fields. Do y'all have those random stone walls in some places there like they have in New England?
