Another good indication of the perfect sweetness is if the lighter green/yellow between the dark green stripes is a minimum of two finger widths apart. (And generally the heavier, the better bc that means it had ample hydration as it grew.)
@@Novo88205the point of it is that if they were sitting there long enough to get the light spot, that means they had enough time to ripen. It doesn’t mean that they’ll be especially sweet, just that they’re definitely ripe. It’s always worked for me when choosing watermelon.
Keep in mind that there are different shapes for watermelons too. Seeded watermelons tend to be oval shaped while the seedless variety are more sphere shaped.
My mother taught me this growing up to listen to the noise it makes. I can count on 1 hand how many times I’ve done this test and gotten a sandy or not sweet melon. It works 98% of the time like she said.
Another awesome trick to know whether it's ripe or not is to press slightly the belly botton😂😂 or the opposite side of the vein if its firm and you don't feel goes down it means the watermelon has a thick shell and it's not juicy If it does press ( goes down a little bit), it's perfect If it presses down easily run 🏃♀️ 🏃 it's probably gonna explode and splash its juice Idk never met one like that , but this trick works great, and I always end up with the most red sweet ripe watermelon So I hope everyone has the most delicious, juicy, sweet watermelon for this whole life .
I know of the yellow skin part, but didn’t know about the smaller bellybutton (vine button?) trick! I will try that in the future! My grandpa taught us to go by sound. You want the deeper sounding pong-pong vs a thin sounding piya-piya… if that makes sense. 😅
Those pong pongs & piya piyas just smacked me back to toddlerhood and wading hip deep through my grandaddy's garden plots. Thank you for making my heart happy ❤
There's a lot of other indicators too? It needs to be heavy compared to another watermelon the same size. It's good if the colors are really saturated You don't want to get one that has a stem that's been cut because it was picked before it was ready You don't want an unevenly shaped one because it might have had a Vine wrapped around it or been nutrient deficient
Also go for smaller melons! I see people always getting the biggest ones they can find but that just means there’s gonna be more water than sugar! The smaller the melon the sweeter it is because the sugar is more concentrated!
@@robynhalyard9100 Bees and wasps are attracted to the sugars contained in a sweet melon. Its really not a big deal its their nature to do so. Even if you give them food theyll still do it. So no reason to be sad. There not actual stings. more so a bite. Its an old saying as well "Bee stings"
I wonder if this is the same even for the huge 15-20kg ones we get in my country... We rarely see small ones, ours have been big bois since I can remember 😮
Этот арбуз навряд ли был очень вкусный Обычно, если арбуз сочный и сладкий - его достаточно только начать резать - и он трескается сам. Если надо прикладывать усилия чтобы разрезать арбуз - то он на вкус так себе
Blossom end vs stem end. In cantaloupe and honeydew, if you can depress the blossom end and the melon smells fragrant, it is ripe and ready to be eaten.
Lies the yellow has nothing to do with the sweetness of the fruit the yellow happens when the watermelon just sits as it’s growing that the spot where the sun doesn’t hits it

This is discriminatory to people with sausage fingers

this channel is slowly curing my depression video by video! Love it!
Bro, all my dad does is knock on it and takes it💀
I do that too.
Sweet and crispy ones make a slightly hollow, louder sound and blander and wetter ones make a dull sound. Once you hear, you know
Love this channel. Also the sound when cutting open a watermelon ❤
The lighter side is just where it was sitting on the ground when growing
Right grew some myself and all had that and none were sweet 😂 very disappointed
Sometimes the lighter side is white, which in my personal experience, tends to have less flavor and sweetness than those with yellow.

❤Girl! Now you know that's good. Thank you for sharing this wonderful helpful knowledge.
Thank you!

i thought she was gonna pickle watermelon 😭

I just knock it and if it sounds like what I expect I buy it. If it sounds weird I don’t buy it. Works every time

Thanks mom
"This watermelon is older than you".
At first I thought she said she’s going to pickle the watermelon lol
I love your videos a lot! Your food looks so tasty i wish my mom could cook as well as you
thank you
I just slap it and if it echoes and vibrates beautifully, its just nice and not old inside 😂

Not always the heavy one is good. I once chose a watermelon that was really heavy, but it super hard to chew and had little flavor.

i am glad that the watermelon is not 17 years old
I just explained this to my husband at the grocery store maybe 2 weeks ago. I always root through them to find the one I want.
She makes things by her self 😅

Yeah uhh.. in Texas we knock on our watermelon and if it knocks back it’s good 👍
I tell it a joke, if it laughs then its ripe and sweet
The more green it is the better
wanna make it easy???? just buy the one with Bee Stings
They look like dried shiny scabs or dots
May I ask how? Does it make it sweeter? I'm also sad to think about bees dying to sting a watermelon, I'm just not sure how it works

I grew up around the watermelon capital of the world and that is not a watermelon. That is a small basketball
Where is that?😮
yes mommy
We do not know that watermelon is sweet without taste it
I heard the other way round for the belly button. To pick the biggest.
Button has the glottal stop sound, not d sound
No. Never. Only egg shaped watermelons for me. That's GM.

watermelons have belly buttons???

❤❤👌👌😋
Also, if it has those brown marks on the outside that is the sugar seeping out so that watermelon would be sweet too! ❤
That's because honeybees and other pollinators can smell the sugar and will try to get some of that sugar to seep out.
What about the other 2%
Small belly button… Stretch marks… sound like me😅
Was it sweet?😮
This is not a water melon haha in my contry you can move it by your own 😂😂
Wow no pips

Every watermelon is sweet, no matter how you pick them

Thank you!
