Burton sang this song and Randy wrote the No sugar part. Burton added the "New Mother Nature" section later as the song was too short.

definitely a different take on a great song. however, it IS much more of what i would have liked the song to have sounded like on the album, except, of course, with cummings singing with his terrific sense of phrasing, emphasis at just the right places as well as his use of different vocal textures (again, at just the right places in the song). i mean the melody and the way he sang it was just perfect for that song. i just wish that he and randy had recorded this version with cummings singing the song the way he did on the "american woman" album (his voice is so great and distinctive) and then let randy tear it up for a bit with some kind of solo, then come back in with cummings, maybe revisiting a verse or maybe the chorus and then with randy adding some licks here and there and then just kind of fade out with some sort of "na na" vocals and randy's guitar and just leave out the whole "new mother nature" thing. i would have found that, for me anyway, much more satisfying as a listening experience. when i bought the "american woman" album and listened to the "no sugar tonight/new mother nature" cut i always wished they had just finished "no sugar tonight" outright since that was the song i really enjoyed the most. to have had it cut up, blended with another tune that, while good, i guess, just didn't do justice to the vibe of "no sugar tonight" always disappointed me. every time i played the album; i just knew that moment was coming when i was going to be let down. i just wish they had kept working on "no sugar tonight" and really taken the time to flesh it out because it is an awsome piece of rock 'n roll that could have been truly great. a classic. with just a bit more effort. "..........of course, that's just my opinion. i could be wrong." (thanks dennis).
