there are many officers who think they are the authority EVERYWHERE. Plenty also don't like giving up their authority to other emergency services.
I do remember one story where there was an accident on a railroad, like a train hit a car or something, anyway, apparently since it happened on a RR crossing it was the authority of the RR to conduct the cleanup, invesstigation, etc. Well one of the cops was getting pissy with the RR authority about it stating that it was his job to take care of it and he was asking them to leave.
let's just say that didn't go over so well for the cop.

This episode based on a real incident in California involving the California Highway Patrol, made that agency look really bad and made it a statewide policy not to arrest firefighters doing their job. In the Eastern U.S. some fire departments in small communities have fire police. They block intersections, and make sure the scene is safe for firefighters and authorized by the State Police.

You might find this hard to believe, but not EVERYTHING is about race in this world! Now, I've known some state troopers in my time, and they tend to fancy themselves as US marshals, with wide-ranging powers and authority - but they DON'T. Clearly, Woodall seemed to think he was one of those types; instead of working WITH the chief, he saw his "authority" questioned. But I didn't see anything about race in that clip; I got the sense that if Casey had been the chief, the same thing would have happened to him. Everything doesn't have to be about race; people can just feel like their authority is being challenged, without bringing Jesse damn Jackson into it! You might want to consider that position.

Something tells me - just knowing FH51 and the very close relationship held with Voight’s crew that this did happen but we weren’t allowed to watch…and with good reason.
Reminds me of another time but totally different case where I do believe Voight would have used the same line:

I would not be surprised if that situation inspired the writers on Chicago Fire. Many of the fires/ rescue scenarios in the various episodes of Season one were inspired by real fires/rescue situations that the CFD encountered over the years, some of which the shows technical advisor Steve Chikerotis was involved with as a member of the CFD.
Also the attempted closure of Firehouse 51 at the start of this season, reminded me of the attempt to close Firehouses in New York City by Mayor Blumeberg in 2011 to balance the city's budget. Just like on the show, in reality many Firefighters, and people from the areas of the city that would have been affected by the closures banded together and managed to stop the closures. This was national news for several weeks and I would not be surprised at all if one or more of the writers from Chicago Fire used it for inspiration for the main story arc of Season 2.

There was a very similar situation in California when a CHP officer arrested a firefighter back in February. www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2014/02/05/272144424/police-officer-arrests-firefighter-at-accident-scene-in-california

andrewkim101 I remember reading that story online. Even thought I don't live in California, I hope that CHP and the Chula Vista Fire Department worked out the issues arising from the communication break down.
