  • Bobbie Gowland teaches AP English Language Arts at Willison Middle High School.
She has been teaching for 30 years, with over half of her career being in Williston.
“There is no day that is like another day. There is no class period like another class period. So, it has its challenges, but it is still fun, and I honestly think it helps keep me young to an extent,” said Gowland.
Many students have come through Mrs. Gowland’s doors throughout the years, but one student in particular is very close to home: her daughter Kai.
“I see how hard she works every day. Just because school ends at 3:35 p.m., the second she gets home, I see her sitting at her computer, grading essays and doing virtual schoolwork. It’s really awesome to see how the work she puts into what she does is paying off and that she is getting recognized for it,” said Kai.
Mrs. Gowland says she wants to continue teaching for a while, but will travel when she retires.
“It’s something I enjoy because, in the future, I’m not going to have that, so I appreciate it while it’s here,” said Gowland.
In the meantime, she will continue inspiring her high schoolers.
“I had a student tell me before that he never read a book cover to cover until he had my class, and he loved it,” said Gowland. “It’s hearing things like that that makes a lot of us do what we do.”
