It's a question of governance focused on the economy, on how to build it, on how to bring in foreign revenues, which the Korean government zeroed in on industrialization, on manufacturing exportable industrial products, as well as commercial products such as wigs, textiles, etc. The template to nationbuilding has been made available already to the developing world by advanced countries. It should be easier now to just copy and do what the countries that have succeeded in it. As what Singapore's governance think tank guru has said "it's simply copying." But the question lies in the national leaders, do they have the awareness that Industrialization is the key? Sadly, most government know politics rather than industrialization and its added-value to nationbuilding,
@9:12 "Mobilize domestically held capital that is sleeping in citizen's pockets..." That's a nice way of putting it(!) It did but they never appreciate the good stuff, if it has a little bit of help. The South Korean Economic Model was developed by Dr Mahbub ul Haq who was the Head of Planning Commission of Pakistan and later became General Zia's Finance Minister. Koreans later honoured the Pakistani Economist by opening a street in his name. Today South Korea has one of the highest economic living standards in the world, thanks to the Good works done by Military Rulers during the 1970s, and the Chaebol.
The Chaebol were introduced by Japan during their rule. The economic model is also a Japanese model. I think the Koreans are obviously denying the existence of a huge elephant in the room which is Japan as the main contributor for their economic success. Korea was the second most industrialized nation in Asia after Japan in 1945.
This of course, does not take away the efforts put by the Koreans to achieve the success in the latter half of the XXth century. But you have to give back to Caesar what is Caesar's.
Japan's WWII war drive stripped all resources from Korea ~ where the poor Koreans literally ate the tree barks off the tree~ and so even before the war broke out in 1950, 5 years after liberation, Korea was very very poor to start with~ devastation wasnt all due to the Korean war.
I've visited the museum and I was shocked and disappointed by the historical bias you represented. It was obvious that you were trying to promote certain political agenda instead of presenting cold hard facts. I've learned that all Korean museums fabricated its history for their liking. What a shame!
Great explanation of the characteristics of and the role played by South Koreas export in its economical growth!
Korea is Country Strong & Best of the Best, I Love 🇰🇷
Phenomenal documentary! Good Job!
Despite Park Chun-hee's dictatorship, the South Korean economy went into an instant overnight development and transformation almost instantly.
He was a hero to the country. And I think it was precisely because he was a dictator with great power that the country was able to change that fast.
But no one in their country see him as to what he is, they just want to say he is bad cause he did dictatorship etc etc. And when hardship hit them, then they prise him. Saying he is better then moon or park, while it is SK elected president. Look at their reality not what they want u to believe.

In other words, how South Korea under a dictatorship led by an ex-IJA officer, flourished economically by copying the Japanese economic model.
