No… they’re just not seeing demand right now and growth is projected to be slow for the next 2+ years. Either aircraft would do just fine on the East Coast to Europe routes, and the company is committed to a diverse fleet.

My guess is that the preference has more to do with price and delivery dates than anything else. In a public statement, Air Canada’s CFO Michael Rousseau, the reduction from 61 to 50 MAX aircraft was due to a government Covid rescue package and a change in long-term strategy. “It gave us some optionality on potentially some other planes we might want to look at in the middle of the decade. Those 11 were basically being delivered in the middle of this decade.” It’s been rumored that AC may look for additional A220s and a few A321LR/XLR instead. The cost and field performance drawbacks of the MAX10 versus neoXLR are known. Plus, their delivery availability is mostly in the late 2020’s. This (the cost) is why RyanAir cancelled their MAX10 initial contract.

I agree. These planes were not designed, marketed, funded, certified or operated by Mitsubishi, so I don’t get the need to call them that. Mitsubishi ended their production immediately too, so why go there?
Mitsubishi owns the type certificate for the CRJ series, so it's their name on the certification documents now. In Transport Canada's database, the type certificate holder for the CRJ series is under MHI RJ Aviation ULC.

I got thinking about this, and I can see some cities with crj900/erj175 service, having reduced schedules and rouge a319 deployed in their place, with the crj900/erj175 being deployed on dash 8-300 routes... but hey, I’m not an airline route planner
No changes to the A220 and B737 max order as per the conditions of the loan Air Canada received in April 2021 “ The completion of the airline’s acquisition of 33 Airbus A220 aircraft, manufactured at Airbus’ Mirabel, Quebec facility. Air Canada has also agreed to complete its existing firm order of 40 Boeing 737 Max aircraft. Completion of these orders remains subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable purchase agreements.”
Very true and AC's CEO has always confirmed that they still hold options for both. Reading into their 2020 yearly report, it notes that they have 10 purchase rights for the MAX after their agreement with Boeing due to the grounding and then the 30 options for the A220 order remains the same.
I hope they keep the A220s coming in & they use them to open up some new routes (especially YYZ-YKA) Also I hope Viking Air starts producing new DHC-8-300s with updated tech & Jazz gets some. Wishful thinking I know…
When AC ordered additional CRJ-900's, they stated that they wanted to transition into more larger gauge jets. Maybe they will look to acquire more of these birds or even grow their ERJ fleet?
This week, Air Canada abrultly stopped its YVR-SYD freight flight on 777-300. (This has cuased Canada Post to , without warning, reject any postal shipmenst from Canada to Audtralia). I am assuming that AC may be starting to convert 777-300s back to PAX config. Still curous on how ACX and airlines in general will replace Dash-8 and CRJ200-CRJ 700s. One can argue the -900 can be replaced by A220. But the A220 is too big for 50 seater planes. Note: lack of orders for new Dash-8s so regional flights are not switching from CERJs to Dash-8s. (yet). (Not that deHavilland could produce them, but getting orders would provide incentive to find a place to setup production).
Calling the RJ's Mitsubishi is grossly innapropriate. They're a Bombardier product. We still call the ol' dashs De Havilland. Not Bombardier. Just like there is a difference between a De Havilland Beaver and a Viking Beaver.
Also starting to bring back staff. My niece is a FA out of YYC. She was off for over a year but is now back. Started as just a FA, but is already back as an incharge. She was a bit surprised how fast to get back to the incharge position. 🤞 we are getting over the worst of it. Now if certain provinces could get their collective acts together, we could really move past this and get somewhat back to normal. Great video, thanks for making Canadian aviation content. My guy says the B77Ls are not coming back, or at least the leased frames will be returned. With the LR conversation program launched, and the 787-9s able to do most of the LR routes, the business case isn’t really that strong anymore. The only big advantage of the LR is its range with full payload.
I'm sure you're unable to give a precise answer and can only theorize though, do you think that Air Canada will buy the E190-E2's? Asking, of course, due to the cancellation of their remaining MAX 8's and A220's alongside their MAX 9 order including their prior retirement of the E190-E1's and A319's. I read online that the transition from E1 to E2 only takes 2.5 days with no simulator required, though it appears that Embraer came out with the E2 slightly too late for Air Canada's E1 replacement objective.
I really hate the fact that they are retiring their a330 routes. I flew on an aircanda a330 from montreal - casablanca very recently, and it was a great experience, but now they are using a 787-9, a way smaller aircraft :(
Really, hahaha, the advantage in number of passengers goes to Airbus with 15 more passengers. The 330 is slower, has 4 engines ( fuel hog) and shorter range. But hey whatever floats your boat

It was a disaster with an Air Canada flight that led to passenger airplanes being fitted with escape path lights. Air Canada flight 797 was a DC-9 that started filling with smoke from a mysterious fire that erupted somewhere on the plane. The flight crew couldn’t find the culprit until after the plane landed where, just 90 seconds after the plane touched down, flames shot though the cabin. All who were still on board perished. They couldn’t find exits due to all the smoke
So I guess Rouge won't be going to Europe any time soon without their 767s? Sun destinations only for the foreseeable future. That sucks because I liked their 767 to Europe in the summers. Great leg room in economy.
@@bobc5730 Rouge played a major role in returning AC to profitability after their bankruptcy. They needed the Rouge product and cost structure to compete with the other leisure carriers like Air Transat and Sunwing to sun destinations.
I thought all the 777-200LRs had been returned to lessors, also 4 of their oldest A330-300s. I believe their oldest 777-300ER, C-FITL, was also returned to the lessor about 2 weeks ago, after being stored in Singapore for about 18 months. It was ferried Singapore-Vancouver on October 18 and then flew to the desert at Marana, Arizona on October 19.
Sadly it does look like C-FITL was returned to the lessor, but two 777-200LRs have returned to service! I’m assuming the rest of the 777s will return to service very soon
I don't care about their fleet, in the end it's all about service, and Air Canada fails miserably. Air Canada does more advertising than most airlines in North America and you have to ask why? I've had my experience with this raunchy organization, and l can definitely tell you, they are not worth the time or effort, they are horrible people. And let's not forget, Air Canada received billions bailouts, ( while people were suffering ) in turn, they ( unsuccessfully ) gave stock options and bonuses to their executives while employees got nothing, even thumbing their noses at passengers - that they did not want to give refunds to. And Canadian passenger bill of rights is one of the most horrible in the world and Air Canada exploits that.

I’m actually nervous to fly with the airbus a321 in their fleet. I’m flying with one this Friday and it’s 20 years old and way over 60.000 fly hours and quite a bit of cycles too. It terrifies me. I always imagine them being as lax with their maintenance as they are with their flight/working hour regulations that are still way below standard compared to the rest of the world. I’ve only flown Klm so far, whom I always trust when it comes to regulation.
Wow, i wonder if there's some sort of problem on the route you fly? I've flown with Air Canada hundreds of times. I believe they only lost my luggage twice, and always delivered within 24 hours.
Doing my best NEVER to fly AC again. They screwed me and so many other people when COVID hit. They only refunded my taxes, not even my seat selection fee for a flight to Florida when the US was announcing they were going to close the border. West Jet or Porter as much as possible and international carriers for other places when I resume flying regularly.
AC.TO is a Big FAT SHORT with downside target of $9.00 !!! Capital Structure has changed since March 2020: more debt and more shares outstanding so will be hard to get this stock back up to February 2020 Highs ! Business Travel is NOT returning so will hit AC's bottomline. Conclusion: Sell the Stock, Buy the Airline Ticket !

C-FSOU was a close second favorite for me. Nobody that I worked with understood why I would get so excited over certain tail numbers.

AC has a perfect record with me. Out of 9 flights they've lost my checked bag 9 times. DO NOT CHECK LUGGAGE WITH AIR CANADA.

interesting in my lifetime they lost my luggage once and recovered it next day. and I have been flying a fair bit in my 70 plus years
The 737 max 8 jets are terrible aircraft, I have flown on them and hope I never have to again, rather any airbus for any flight than those mx 8s
Doing my best NEVER to fly AC again. They screwed me and so many other people when COVID hit. They only refunded my taxes, not even my seat selection fee for a flight to Florida when the US was announcing they were going to close the border. West Jet or Porter as much as possible and international carriers for other places when I resume flying regularly.
AC.TO is a Big FAT SHORT with downside target of $9.00 !!! Capital Structure has changed since March 2020: more debt and more shares outstanding so will be hard to get this stock back up to February 2020 Highs ! Business Travel is NOT returning so will hit AC's bottomline. Conclusion: Sell the Stock, Buy the Airline Ticket !
