- Have you or someone you know been diagnosed with knee arthritis? Are you wondering if you can keep running through it?
This week we had the pleasure of having Dr. Frank Petrigliano educate us on how you can just keep running with arthritis!
Dr. Petrigliano is an Associate Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery and Chief of the Epstein Family Center for Sports Medicine at Keck Medicine of USC. He also serves as the head team physician for the LA Kings hockey team and is the team physician for USC Athletics!
Dr. Petrigliano covers the following questions in this week's episode:
- If I have arthritis, does running accelerate its progression?
- What are some strategies to reduce the knee pain associated arthritis, especially during running?
- Can a running analysis be useful?
- How does location of arthritis in the knee effect management?
- What type of injections are available to manage knee arthritis?
- If I need a knee replacement, can I run after knee replacement?
- As a runner, how do I prevent knee arthritis?

Is doing glute exercises good for knee arthritis to manage it
Yes, but also think about adding in side glute muscle (gluteus medius) and quad specific work too!

Will running make my OA arthritis cracking and creaking knees worse ?
No it will not. The key is strength training the muscles around the knee 🎯
Every doctor i been to told me to not run because it will make my crunchy knees more crunchy. Iam still walking and doing other exercises but im scared to run again because of what those doctors told me... by the way i never have pain, just a cracky crunchy knee
@@ancientdiscoverys more of a reason to not be fearful of running. Crunchy and cracking knees is what we call crepitus and is not pathological. Many knees do this and running will not make it worse.
@@sparkhealthyrunner ..the strange thing is I was fine and then 2 weeks ago I woke up with crunchy knees and they won't go away..still crunchy after 2 weeks..one knee more then the other
@@ancientdiscoverys a bit weird but nothing I haven’t heard before. I wouldn’t be concerned especially if not painful. Get in some quad and hip strengthening to help decrease the crunch. Try these: ruclips.net/video/1uniMWm9fTA/видео.html
