RIOT retconned a ton of old lore for this very purpose. I think they'll surprise us all with an Alpha or Beta test sooner than we think.

I dont like LoL and MOBAS in general but the set up for the world and lore look amazing this could definitely be an amazing game if the game mechanics are done right
Yeah, there's so many people that have no idea how deep the lore goes and just think League is just the MOBA and nothing else
I can't picture them messing it up too badly. They sat on League for 11 years before releasing any follow up products.. and imo they are all high quality and introduce a refreshing take on their respective genres.
Look at Legends of Runeterra, Valorant, Arcane, and Ruined King.

I've been enthusiastically anti-lol/moba since 2012. Just wasn't a fan. However Riot's success is undeniable and they clearly have enough talent and money to produce a jaw dropping MMO. The thing that vanilla wow had over every new mmo is lore. Wow built on the years worth of Warcraft lore and developed it into a living world. Riot is in a similar position right now. They have a decade of LoL lore, including an Animated Show, to build upon. This video cemented that for me. This could be hype.

I've played LoR, LoL, and watched a lot of their lore shows and comics. The world is so massive, it's going to be great to see what they can do with a massive budget.
It's insane. I played LoL like over 10 years ago and knew there was lore... but not this much. Whoever made this deserves massive credit. I don't know why they made it except for "well it's kinda cool and we want to" and I really like that. I actually think Riot has a pretty good track record of managing their games well and Valorant was a entirely different genre too and it's a massive success so these are all really good signs. I'm cautiously excited for this.
massive budget goes to making animations and world look great not really the gameplay and other aspects of the game.

@@idontcare9041 One of the biggest games in the world for a reason, im sure they built it with passion and knew that if they fleshed out every little detail to why everything matters in their game, that theyd see success and enjoy it themselves. The MMO is going to be insane. Biggest budget possible, fully fleshed out world with over 140 champions who can have their own entire questline/story; stemming into full expansions and stories within zones while adding more to the lore.
@@taz_trader I don't think the average league player cares about the story, that's all. I think out of all the MMOs in recent years Riot has the best chance of succeeding... but it's also a really difficult genre so we'll see. I don't know how they could tie all the champs into a MMO world... I'm very interested in what the quests and main story are gonna be like

The lore is only interesting when its based of each individual character, i find it super wierd when you have like mix culture lore based games. A lil bit of weapons a lil bit of anime a lil bit of knights. Its just wierd. WOW panda is prime example why it was super wierd, this one will be on same level.
Those soldiers following Lux and Garen are the Crownguard troops, they are lead by Lux and Garen's family As their last name is Crownguard. So they are loyal to the Name, and after Lux just saves them, I imagine most men of honor would not rat out Lux to the King. That I believe is a paraphrase of what happens there.
the reason the foundation is so strong is because for the first 10 years of league when they dropped a new character they would also drop a multi page essay with lore and motivations about the character. the world and lore was built 1 character at a time and put on a back burner for the right time.
they started doing that after a shit load of players started sending letters and emails asking about the backround and lore around all their characters, so they kinda just adapted realy well, and started writing a shit load off lore, and over 7-9 years, they have stockpiled a HUGE ammount of worldbuilding and lore, so they have a simmilar situation to the foundation of wow, wich was built on the lore off warcraft

I feel the same way as Chance. If this won't end up being good (although I'm fairly confident it'll be amazing) then MMO'S have no chance.
Unless there is some new technology that would significantly increase development speed (which is the bane of most MMO's and why they feel lacking. Simply because of the sheer size of one)
MMO's died the moment developers aproach the genre to be and feel like Mobile Games.
Last hope is Wow recovering somehow (very unlikely), FFXIV and Ashes of Creation perhaps doing what MMORPG's must do: Be a RPG with online function and no stores, P2W stupid stuff, disgusting microtransactions, NFT's, etc.

@@GymWorkoutsF1 At least with the game there is a greater degree of confidence that it'll amount to something compared to other scamstarters especially with the amount of user-facing results we've seen today. But yeah don't get your hopes up cause it's ambitious af. That game could still be in development for another decade and I'd still be skeptical of a production release with all the features solidly delivered as promised.
Depends, if it just ends up being another boring WoW then yeah, it doesn't deserve to have a chance.

Seeing Necrit finally get some light shed on his channel from other content creators is amazing, I love this dude, he's dedicated so much of his life to League of Legends' amazing and in-depth lore that barely anybody knows about.
I've been keeping up with the lore for a few years now, ever since they did that big overhaul. And I'm so excited for the MMO. I would love for soda to look at more lore videos on league, but I really wish Necrit had covered all the Demons, Darkin, Gods, and Celestial Beings in more depth, as I think those are some of the most compelling creatures in the lore (for me at least).
i mean he has and all of his vids are 20 mins +. He can't possibly cover it all in a vid that is targetted to ppl who probably never read league lore

Necrit did mention that the lore was too much for the video. The video was made so people who are unfamiliar with the lore could see why the MMO could be successful and if they were interested, to check his channel for deeper lore.

You gotta admit, Riot makes amazing games and has a track record for making high quality, polished F2P games. Looking forwards to their MMO as well as their fighting game.

yeah i would agree excluding leagues balance and new champion design teams, the game has a phenomenal group of people behind it. the lore, art, cosmetics, community management, esports are all top tier. LoR, Ruined King, and valorant have all been extremely well received too.
And they haven't have any shutdown games yet, proving they're commit to develop their games and their live service model works...
you don't mind that it's probably going to be in isometric perspective like lost ark? For me, it kills the sense of freedom in the game.

Its funny I'm watching someone react to something I'm excited about and you playing that small tidbit from the Warrior cinematic still gives me chills. Lux summoning Galio a sleeping statue that only she could communicate with is just sick. the reason this mmo is exciting for me, i never had the lore of warcraft by the time wow was big, i played diablo a bit but otherwise i wasnt within that culture. i played league and runescape in their infancy, ive been with them in the same way warcraft players were introduced to wow, i have an emotional connection to a lot of these characters and this world, even though i stopped playing league well over 5 years ago, this connection is still there, and being an mmorpg player at heart, this game is gonna be big for me.
for a while i didn't understand why people wouldnt let go of so many mistakes the blizzard devs were making with wow, i kind of understood my loyalty to runescape when jagex made some big mistakes. but nothing compares to how i will eventually feel if riot messes up this mmo a couple years down the line. i trust them not to but i finally understand the similarities between these franchises and their upcoming. this will not be the wow killer, because wow is dead, and i dont mean the game, i mean the excitement behind whats to come.
This game will be a reflection of the joy people felt back in the day, a new seedling for the next era of mmo's

This is the first MMO I’ve seen since 14 and Lost Ark to say. This is gonna be a big thing. They have the world and lore. No doubt the visuals. It’s all gonna be down to gameplay. I hope it has a good social interaction Not all fighting

@@bullettime1116 They aren't going to do this cause they are too clever. As soon as you start facing mountains/gods there is no higher ceiling for you to fight. Look at WoW, and look at the problems Marvel are facing now. Riot know they can't cap out the threat and have everyone be walking gods who become laghably stronger than the monsters they are facing. The bosses will be very basic for the first 10 years of release. As soon as it's enemies as significant as malphite or aurelion sol there is nothing left to keep interest

there are few characters that have little lore but its so much better now than it was before
There is still some champions with little to no lore like Shaco but that's just a few among the 160 characters with fleshed out stories.

It started that way. Over the years it's gone through many rewrites and retcons, slowly building up to where it is now.
I've been trying for a long time to find an mmo to get into and actually invest myself. Never really found it but this is something that gives me hope

Riot is known for making incedibly f2p friendly games and gaslighting their fans into buying shit skins. They will be fine with gameplay and monetization
@@manquito4216 no matter how much I want to like AoC, the game was just doomed from the start, as they want to make an old school type MMO, which lets be real, isnt going to work in 2030 or whenever they release the game. difference is riot isnt a indy company anymore and they did a good job with valorant arcane league, im cautious ofc but still looking forward. riot hasnt made an L yet for me
I'm down to try it. Arcane was pretty entertaining, so at least we know those guys can tell a decent story when they put the right people on it. They just need to nail the combat and world design without failing massive technical aspects like New World did.

@@Sephiroso. You realize that the population of gamers as well as the cost of development have increased drastically right? "More numbers!" doesn't mean a game is thriving or even doing well. Such a simple concept that a comment like yours shows a huge lack of critical thinking.
WoW's content was actually decent this expansion, but they took too long between patches and everyone lost interest. They also rushed 9.2's storyline. However, I enjoyed the gameplay and thought the pvp was fun, and covenants were cool once they got rid of conduit energy and made them easier to swap. Most people didn't give the expansion a chance because it understandably took too long for updates.

20:08 A lot of people really don't pay attention to League's lore but Riot has made such an amazing work with it that is actually crazy, I'm in love with League's lore I think is one of the best lores ever made, at least for videogames
6ish years ago Riot basically said "Our lore and world sucks. Let's rebuild it from scratch". And that's what they did, literally wiping all lore form the start of the game up until that point. Then, character by character, zone by zone, they re-wrote and re-invented it. The result was used as inspiration for all of their games, media(arcane), advertisements(star guardian), and this upcoming MMO. Was a pretty good decision honestly.
I think soda should start by playing ruined king, to get a bit of a feel for the world, even though it's limited to Bilgewater and the shadow isles.
It looks lovely, but i just cant stand turn based combat games.

Aurelion Sol is inconceivably large, he makes galaxies for fun.

One thing that Necrid didn't mention about Demacia.....the entire city could turn into a Bomb.
Demacians don't know this, but the Petricite Trees, and thus all buildings in Demacia, have a limit on how much magic they can absorb and thus, how much magic they can, safely, store. If it overloads, the material explodes.
Also, the trees have stopped growing so the material will end up becoming rare, which will cause problems, since all of Demacia depends on those trees for....well more or less everything.
Piltover and Zaun would make for a great starting location since both are centrally located, and are large in size. Each would be a place for players starting depending on whether they want to play a good or evil faction. As for the other areas, the entirety of each area need not be unlocked immediately. It could be like with Elder Scrolls Online where each region would be split into various sections with each opening up over time. And the micro regions would be like smaller dlc's in their own right. Another benefit of PIltover and Zaun being good starting locations would be that the area, being centrally located, would have a collection of every race, faction, and playable class type being represented in one form or another. And the familiarity of the show with other people that have watched it would help with sells, or those getting the game would be inclined to watch the show.
I love lore like this. I knew a little bit of it on my own, but watchin this was way cool. Like with Lissandra, I kinda just saw her as a mage to play, but her story is really cool.
So in the Music Video Rise, by League of Legends, I just realized that HUGE mountain that they scaled was this one that was pulled up from the ground. Makes sense why Ryze and Jarvan were at the top and why it is a battle to the death
That was a reference to the 2017 World Championship, Ambition's iconic champ was J4 and Faker's at the time was Ryze, the mountain is the grind to the top were the demon king (Faker) rules and Ambition's cause is to dethrone him (SSG vs SKT) and he succeeded. SSG defeated SKT and ended their dynasty of 3 times world champions, that's the context behind Rise.

if you wont have the option to play as the start zone 1 of nations then they will have the story progressing to go lvl (max-atmm-) and after that you will have the option to choose your faction but as leagues lore, you should be able to have many options even for race even for nation etc.

AoC have a brand problem... I am an MMO player and I dont even know what it is... I thought that you are talking about Amazons MMO (that will fail too). Good MMO have to start with some bacground - WoW started with Warcraft lore, SWTOR have Star Wars, ESO have Elder Scrolls and FF14 have Final Fantasy. Its fine if someone launches a game without knowledge (I play FF14 without any prep) but you also need some fans to start with! Amazon released some controversial bullshit where americans are fighting indians with some random fantasy background and they hope to to achieve something with it... not gonna happen. Ashes of Creation? Game will die before someone will hear about it just what happened to Wild Star that was actually a very good game (shitty studio and shitty background - dead).
Its enough for star wars to release a movie for subs in SWTOR to rise. Riot will make another anime and subs will rise. Games without background have to carry their shit alone.
@@JesiAsh AoC media are already bigger than some of games you mentioned, even on youtube. They dont have history, right, but in 7 years of development they gained many trust. The fact that you or your circle of friend didnt hear about it doesnt mean that game is unknoen to bigger audience.
@@ThePlinto Still cannot be compared to preexisting IP. Warcraft, Elder Scrolls, etc have existed for so long they're even known by non-gamers. AoC does not have that going for it no matter how much marketing they do.

They really need to make a nice NEXT GEN star wars mmo, make it look great. I think some of the cool professions and non combat classes from star wars galaxies would be cool, droid maker, DNA pet maker, entertainer giving buffs, doctor healing people in town. It had so much good in it they just didn't know what to do with it back then. There's SO much they could do in the starwars universe

Honestly, everyone under the Riot banner has shown a level of competence that, where it stands now, is kind of kicking everyone else's asses in the industry.
Their games, their videos, their TV series, their world and lore all have a level of care and depth that really set them apart from anyone else that's on their playing field.
I hope they keep it up, understanding that there's no better guarantee of profit than a quality product well made. They've shown to be masters of it.

True vr is probably one of the only things that is going to hold a candle to Vanilla WoW or any MMO now that we are older.
I think the whole thing with demacia and mages is like say the mage uses fireball or something the enemy will take like 10% reduced damage and it won’t have a burn effect I think that’s keeping the immersion and it’s not effecting the players too much
That makes sense because that's how it really works in lore, the trees don't completely absorb magic, they absorb some and weaken it. That's also how Lux can use magic.
What's funny, is he forgot the yordles. There's EVEN MORE LORE. There's like a whole other ass fucking realm.
Targon takes different lengths of time to climb based on who you are. Pantheon’s climb took weeks, Diana did it in a single night

The map looks like half of Greece. And Ionia at the east is litterally the name of the Greek tribe Ionians that settles east of the modern day Greece :P
It will be really funny to let us fight each other to climp the mountain and the winner will have extra powers for a month. And every month there would be an opening so we can start climping again. Clans will fight each other to let their members reach pantheon. Similar to Lineage2 Olympiad bu more chaotic.
I think the guy who made the video he is reacting to (he does a tone of LoL lore video) made a video ranking the strongest champions (by lore) and soraka was the strongest which is funny because soraka doesn't realy do any dmg compraed to almost all other champs :D

Ashes of creation is a game that will bring things to the table that no other mmo game will ever be able to in 20 years.
All those years ago, I really felt like Wildstar could have been a great addition but didn't make the splash it needed, except for its artstyle/world. Sadge
I'm not the WOW guy thats holding onto the glory days but Riot knows how to do things right, the MMO community and their expectations is a different story but I Know Riot would already know the beats they need to hit what ever is their goals. this might be my first MMO

i don't think they'll make yordles a playable race, right after the release of vex we got some insight on them that make the race seem a little too powerful to be playable, its like we are playing as a living magic spirit

i've been following league lore for 4-5 years now and it always looked like a perfect setting for an mmo. The game will work no doubt, but balancing everything has always been a riot issue. See you in 7 years
They only have a problem balancing League because of its sheer size of roster and items throughout the years. Their other games are fine like LoR, Valorant and TFT.
@@wabbajack8283 I can't really talk about lor since I haven't played much, but tft has it's history of 1 single comp being broken or borderline unbeatable and valorant can't be by nature unbalanced since it's a shooter but weapons do need tweaking and agents are broken if you got mediocre aim and others are just bad (chamber on the former, cypher on the latter)

There are rn around 160 Champions in Leage of Legends that you can play. Every single champ has its own story and lore. Riot Games has a base to create an amazing mmo.

If you like league and interested in the lore look at Fiddlesticks lore. It's fucking crazy. I hope that all champions have some sort of sidechain/questline where you learn about them.

I know this has been said like 100 times in the past but LoL is the first real contender to take WoW's place. What made WoW so good was that they started already from a universe with shit ton of lore. Its contenders - GW2, WildStar, ESO neither had as big lore as Warcraft. ESO could have been a lot more successful though had they not fucked up its combat system.
Not only Runeterra has shit ton of established lore, but it is also being funded by one of the richest gaming studios that already has absurdly big dev team with multiple international studios allready to pump content into LoL MMO.
it's going to be insane, can't wait. Riot are really the ones to make it happen. I can't be too biased, but- ah fuck it. Riot's MMO will be incredible.
