You are great teacher, you instructions are very well explained. Thank you for your help as I wish to get my first hive this year 2024 in July. Thanks again regards Richard Weir from down under in Aus
Great video! Question regarding the PDF information on this. Should the back board be 16 1/4 instead of 15 1/2 inches? Especially if you rebate the end by 3/4 inch on each side of it. That would make the back measure 15 1/2. Or did I miss read the distruction?!
Hi Steve; Is it a crazy idea to combine your plans for the screened bottom board and the hive stand, and create a higher screened bottom board with a 45-degree landing pad? I have a full-fledged hive stand already, so I don't feel I need a stand-alone hive stand, or anything in addition to the bottom board except for the cool landing pad. I suppose there is a question of how complicated or expensive the replacement work will be in a few years. But what else am I missing? Thanks! I love your videos! Steve in Pisgah
You could certainly do this, though bees really don't need a slanted landing board. They can handle the horizontal landing platform in front of the bottom board just fine. This is one of the advantages of building your own; you can play around with novel ideas.
I'm just getting into beekeeping and I can't make sense of a lot of the equipment. Why use latex paint? That's the least protective paint I know of. People use it on house siding because siding doesn't get much water on it. Also, why use this when you could build a pvc pipe stand, like the bkcorner one?

So where are the plans located?
Go to www.michiganbees.org and search for "workshop". The plans are under the "Beekeeping" tab. Enjoy.
