Mercedes-Benz Differential Noise - Easy & Cheap Novice Fix

For more than a year, our GLA250 has been making popping noises from the back. It was also something I could feel - like the differential was stuck and binding. Did you know you are supposed to have your differential oil fluid changed every 20,000 - 30,000 miles? I had no idea. Our car has 110,000 mile. If you can change the engine oil, you will have no trouble servicing your differential.

Meanwhile in my mom's 2010 e350 4matic the center diff is making a whining noise and an indy and the dealer says it needs a new one but low and behold its 1 piece integrated into the transmission so dealer wants 7k, or 4k at an indy shop including cost of purchasing a reman trans from ebay. Some owners failed at 30k miles, some over 100k. Just bad design unfortunately and that's what we get for breaking the "don't buy first year" rule.
