Tell Scott to bring some of that rain back up to Wisconsin! I live in NW Wisconsin, and though we’ve gotten some rain, it’s still pretty dry. The flow was non stop here this year, I extracted 518lbs from just 6 hives. It’s been crazy, even through the drought. 😊🐝
Bob, I am a very small hobbyist Beek in missouri. I had dried down honey in an attic with fans, but didn't run a dehumidifier. I was recently told that the dehumidifier also dried out any hive bettle larvae that was present. This seems like important Information to me. I now dry all honey down at a minimum of 24 hours with a dehumidifier. Love learning from your channel, you make it very relatable. Thank you.
The reason you get moisture seeping into those drums is due to the pressure differential. The temp rises during the day and cools at night. When it cools the pressure drops and creates a vacuum which draws in the water that is setting in the top of the drum.

Bob, there is a tool that we use for siding & metal work that holds the small nails & u hit the top end with a hammer to drive the nail, it's a punch, about the size of a paint marker. No finger smashing & they cost around $15...the one I use Is made by Malco & is very nice, fast, & effective
We had the same issues with Sourwood over on our side of the mountains as well. Had a limited amount of the supers we pulled that could be counted as Sourwood with most being mixed with other nectar sources. Wasn't expecting much Sourwood seeing as most of the smaller trees didn't bloom this year.
Our first flow ended 7/ 7 and have been in a dearth until 8/7 . the spotted lantern flys will feed the bees until 8/21 when the knot weed, Golden rod and aster flow begins and lasts until 9/30.

Question I did a split on my hive to prevent swarming but the hive still swarmed and I know bigger beekeepers have said that if you do a split and the hive swarms you will not get honey from the bees but I have a whole super full of honey I only had one hive two nuke boxes full of honey bees
Today someone came and took our wild bees that were in an owl box. There are so many still pancacked on the tree where their home used to be. Should I worry about anything? I feel bad for them, they are homeless and queenless.
It's a bad deal but there isn't anything to do short of adding them to a hive or giving them a queen. If you want to put them out of their distress soapy water will do it.
Ha Bob Great video I never seen you use pro bi itoc on your hives before i did not spell that right what are you using and why and do u see some good for you bees from using it. thanks hope u have a blessed week
I have always noticed how easy your frames slide. Are you constantly cleaning those corners of propolis? With brood boxes in use all the time I would need to take out most of frames to accomplish this. Thanks for info and patience!!
The Cowen does well with those spacers. It has a three position adjustment which helps a lot when switching between new comb ten frame and eight frame spacers.
thanks, I enjoyed EAS. Good group of folks. We're experimenting with probiotics after it was recommended by a couple of friends. They say their bees look better and healthier. I'm not sure what to expect but we'll see. I take probiotics myself so I figured it couldn't hurt to try.
Yes it will. The time we are going to use it is a diminished brood period of brood production in our area anyway so it works out OK. When the treatment is over they will begin producing loads of brood again because our Goldenrod will begin putting out loads of pollen.
Thanks, How long have you been using these type of products and what positive impacts have you observed in your bees? How often do you treat with probiotics and when. Always a pleasure. Bob I need your expertise. I have a couple new queens arriving in a few days. Is 24 hours too early to remove the old queens? Should I wait till about 8 hours prior to adding the new queen? Thx
I've never had that problem but I would come up with something to help keep numbers down until I could do a serious treatment. Extended oxalic acid release pads are being talked about a lot for that.
Hello Bob, I have a question for you: How do I requeen in an established colony and is fall still a good time for this? The colony consists of all ages of brood. What is the procedure for best outcome of acceptance of the new queen? I have a mated queen in a baby nuc. Thank you! I appreciate your time!
There are many ways but one of the best is to get the queen going in a nuc and then introduce the nuc to the colony after killing the old queen and leaving them queenless for half a day..
Hey Bob - Can you give me the names of a couple places down here in FL that might carry your legit Sourwood? I see SMiley Honey and Bee Natural do you work with either of them by chance?
If it was left until it had equalized it would be extremely thick. Our drying room is often 30% and in just a few days under fans it will lower the moisture content 3% to 4% (from 18 to 14) in uncapped honey.
@bobbinnie9872 I treated 59 colonies with a half of a dose. 11 of them absconded. Now they were in single deeps and not real strong. They were bigger than a 5 frame nuc but not a completely full 10 frame either. So maybe that had something to do with it.

I have always noticed how easy your frames slide. Are you constantly cleaning those corners of propolis? With brood boxes in use all the time I would need to take out most of frames to accomplish this. Thanks for info and patience!!
It's partially because we work our colonies from time to time and yes we will scrape corners if they build up.
Does the cowen like fat 8 frames?
Not sure if you had to adjust the machine or it prefers them?
The Cowen does well with those spacers. It has a three position adjustment which helps a lot when switching between new comb ten frame and eight frame spacers.
Hello, please, what is the name of this medicine that you spray over the bees' tires?
"Strong Microbials" probiotics.
Hello Bob. How late in the year can you get the bees to draw out comb in your area?
Until the night time temperatures cool off.
End of season grunt work. So important, but grueling in this MS heat. What probiotic are you using?
Strong Microbials. I hope to talk on this subject more soon.
Thx you for sharing Bob. Out of interest how much difference is there in honey weight when going to 8 frame spacers in a 10 frame box?
I don't know the exact amount but it's several pounds. I need to measure that somehow.

Was wondering if you have any issues with hive beetles when you store your supers in the drying rooms? Thanks!
Not generally. We move them out before the trouble begins. Four or five days for supers that have had any brood reared in them is max.
