You know , i see a lot of comments that argue about gender and sex , and everything , when the main point of the video is that it should not matter .edit: it should not matter in the situations presented in the video , like chosing clothes or hobyies , or the way you react to sadness , etc.
Yeah that’s true, though of course their are reasons why you have to tell your gender. Like if this were to happen, you can’t tell a doctor that a baby is an “X”, then theirs physical differences between the two sexes.etc. etc. but of course that doesn’t matter when it all come to the persons persuite for happiness and decisions.
Averi Davis yes but doesn’t that hinder what the doctor knows about a patient? I get the trans part, because their bodies are modified. But other? Sometimes doctors gotta know what’s down there... and their are physical differences like I said. Like Muscles,p and how the brain is structured.etc. your sex helps determine how your body is shaped and formed. Doctors gotta know this to give the right treatments. I’m not sure if you see what I’m trying to say in my other comment.
@@134t7 well duh, every trans and non-binary person understands biology. however, this story isn't about "sex," it's about "gender," which are two _very_ different things. sex is determined by biology, whereas gender is determined by the person themselves (simply put, expression) the whole point of this story is to bring up that maybe pink for girls and blue for boys is absolutely stupid, and that any child can dress, act, and identify (express) as they choose. nobody is denying biology, they are saying that biology and identity are two different things and should not control how we interact with each other.

I was also wondering how the parents would react in a situation like that if the story had them going to the doctor or something like that. Sasha The Stressed The story was written in a different time! In the 70’s, they/them pronouns were used as plural pronouns, so it/its was the singular gender neutral pronoun. Thank God they/them pronouns are commonly used now.
@@t-rex4622 Ive been closeted as nonbinary for almost 3 years now, so i can tell you that its not a phase and i am certainly not doing it for attention. I really wish i wasn't nonbinary because a lot of things would be easier, but you cant just chose who you are. You can chose to be respectful, even if you do not understand.
@@t-rex4622 Ah, okay. I understand what you're saying. I don't just want attention though. I'm not even out. I've been questioning my gender for over a year now, and you're right, sometimes I'm still questioning myself. But when I talk to someone online and I just have to answer quickly what my gender is, or what my pronouns are, I just say that I'm nonbinary. Because it would take too much time explain that I'm questioning, and tbh, they/them pronouns makes me the most comfortable right now. But you're right. I'm just a kid. It might just be a phase. But that's okay! Because phases and exploring who you are, makes you, YOU. I feel like a lot of people are shaming others for identifying as something in the LGBTQ+ community, when they're not sure. Everyone should have space to find out who they are, especially when we're kids like now, and doesn't know yet. So yeah, I'm not sure if I'm actually nonbinary. But right now, that label makes me more comfortable than what I was assigned at birth. At least it does right now. And that's all that matters to me, honestly. It's all about doing what feels the most right to me. I hope you understand. Have a nice day!!
Chase Madison Bro, literally this person is stating what they are and you are bringing your school into it...Just let them be who they are and don’t fight and pester them about it 👌
Chase Madison Bro, did you not read Lackluster’s last sentence? To prevent miscommunication (because at this point, miscommunication is the LAST thing we need), I’ll just put in quotes what they said, “If you don’t like what someone says, you should just ignore it so it doesn’t become a big argument.” I am begging on my knees for you to stop. TheWeirdo has EVERY RIGHT to be trans, and you can’t take that away from them. So what if the girls/boys/anyone from your school says stuff like, “OwO I’m trans today!” or “OwO I’m bisexual today!” even when they are lying? Who cares? Like I said before, you are bringing something COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT to this conversation; you are basically saying that because people from your school say shit like that, TheWeirdo is also making it up for attention. That TheWeirdo is, just like the kids from your school, faking it and you are telling them that it is “just a phase”. You have NO RIGHT to tell them this, because you don’t know them. You have no clue if it took them a while to accept this as a part of them or if it they were nervous that others would accept them. Hell, I’m bisexual, (and before you comment some shit back saying, “Your not bisexual blah blah blah, you just want to say that for attention”, before you say that, please know that I have literally liked both girls and boys since I was not even six. Hell, I had a crush on Kiki and a crush on Twist from motherfucking Fresh Beat Band when I was FIVE. So don’t even try to come at me) and it took me forever to even accept that as a part of me. I remember crying in my room at night, scared of what my parents would think of me after I’d tell them. Thank the lord they accepted me, but you don’t know about TheWeirdo’s life. You don’t know what their life is like. So, please, I beg of you to shut up and let this person-no, let ANYONE AND EVERYONE be who they want to be. Don’t take away their rights (and before you say that you aren’t taking away their rights, you are taking away their rights of being who they want to be. Let them be who they want to be. As it specifically states in the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”, Article 2, “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.” It states this word for word and you are taking away their right of sex/gender. It’s their right, and your telling them that they are wrong because you think that they are making it up for attention) and don’t you dare start an argument over something so dumb.
"A child raised without gender" The thing about this is, as shown in the film, X isn't worrying or thinking about how they should be acting or what they should be wearing or playing with, X is happy. Living their life. Not bound by anything gender related. It's an amazing way to live
See this is what my therapist says is one of my reasons I “chose” to be Non Binary. Though I didn’t really choose. I always felt like this so it wasn’t really a decision. The only decision was me telling my parents and telling everyone to call me a them
While a lot of people complain or point out this is really preachy, remember the book this is based off of was written in 1978 where gender issues were much more intense.
Nobody- Absolutely no one- Salty parents in the video- "I'm mad bc my children are switching their chores and *actually* doing them better than the the other one! Ughh I can't believe this."
Preslee Wyatt I would personally give ambiguous names (unless they were born with it - adopting) and give them non-specific clothes (even if gender norms are a sham). But once they are mentally capable, let them choose their own life. It’s going to be hard because gender norms will almost definitely influenced them already so they may feel required to wear certain clothes to fit in with their peers (something mega important with kids). If they were born a girl and choose generally “feminine” things,, that’s okay. Same if they are a masculine boy. But no matter what, always be there to back them up, especially in situations out of your control (social pressure). They Want to wear a skirt? Wear one with them. Make it a fun thing. Kids generally look up to their parents/guardians, so that’s the best you can do with them. These are more or less my opinions, but I wish you good luck regardless of how you decide to parent :))
@@quack2757 *after all, that's why they wanted such a thorough examination* ("Xamination"?) *because obviously a simple public school can afford such a complex machine like that*
Lol that makes sense, but I think they more angry at the fact that they were opposite genders, & that most of the stuff they were playing with broke gender norms, & considering how society was back then & kinda still is now, the parents didn't like that.
This makes me so happy. I'm straight and a Christian, but I support LGBTQ 100% and I'm happy to see that others do as well and the whole world isn't against it since it's not how the world was created. Times change, and people are free to be themselves. Can't we all accept that?
I'm also straight and a Christian, but while i don't support LGBT, I'm *not* against it either. If they aren't hurting anyone and are happy being who they are, then it doesn't matter to me who they love and such. They're human like me and everyone is different, race doesn't matter to me either. I respect everyone's decisions as long as they respect mine :)
i was lucky enough to be raised gender neutral, my parents bought me overalls and dresses and told me i could wear whatever i want!no silly boy or girl rules but things like "make new friends but keep the old , one is sillver and the other is gold" and its no wonder im non binary!

I highly recommend this manga series called “Otomen”. It’s about a high school boy who secretly likes feminine things and sometimes show feminine traits, but has to appear “manly” to others in order to appease his mother; who happens to be a gender conformist freak ever since her ex-spouse came out to her as a transgender female and left her. Publication was from 2006-2012 and I read the whole thing but I didn’t realize how progressive it actually was until recently.
@CringyButCreative Someone who STONGLY believes in Gender Roles. Like "Men go out and work" while "Woman stay home and clean" or "boys play with firetrucks" and "girls play with dolls" things like that.
@CringyButCreative It's a simple term really. It just someone who believes that woman should do certain things and men should do certain things. And you can't differ at all
A while ago I watched this video and found it kind of stupid. Who doesn’t have a gender? That’s impossible. I’m really sorry if I commented anything offended, because now, as I realize I myself am non binary, yeah, it’s pretty possible
Mighty Purplelicious Actually, that’s not quite true. Sex and gender are two separate concepts. Sex is your physical anatomy, and gender is an expression of self/social construct. Gender is a wide spectrum and not limited to the binary sexes. Even in the case of sex, it is possible to be a different sex than male or female, but it’s very, very rare to be born with such a condition.
Andrea H look I like this video but gender and sex are the same thing you can’t deny biology gender will always play a factor in out society but what I think this video is trying to get across is more what we like to do and appearance but I personally don’t think that makes you gender less
@@archontiav5119 Or Portuguese. I'm wondering if both languages having their grammar normative (rather than descriptive, as in English) makes the adoption of genderless language slower. For anyone who is actually reading my comment and wondering what the heck agender is, agender means that you have no gender! -I identify with it myself, hehe...-
Honestly the amount of people here who are so obsessed with the genitals of a child is ridiculous. “Just pull down its pants” “Does it have a penis” “Due it’s full lips and chin, I think it’s a girl” Why are people so obessesed with this shit?
Or 'doing gender'. If a kid is wearing a certain article of clothing, it doesn't mean they're a certain gender or sex. Stop worrying about it! It's a kid!
I feel like the meaning of the video is going over some people's heads. It doesn't matter what's in X's pants, just let the child be a child. If they wanna play dolls or dress up, cool. If they wanna play in the mud or video games, go for it. It's how my parents raised me and I'm perfectly comfortable with myself. I played with barbies and train sets and make up and tussled in the mud. Even now I buy clothes from the mens and womens sections, and I even use both mens and womens hygiene products.
umm thats nice if that was the message.. but it seems like a huge case of parental abuse narrated in a dr sues impersonation. letting their child be experimented on. giving him no name. letting him only wear one thing. letting "experts" get in a room alone and look at his privates for no reason. and in the end he somehow got someone pregnant and had a baby and apparently raised it on his own..
@@Redfoxx4eva I agree that the experiment part of it is morally bleh, but I think that was just for narrative purposes. It's not something that would be remotely ok in the real world, but it step up the story alright. Same with the name, since X could have been replaced with a unisex name like Jamie or Morgan, but it worked thematically. On "letting them only wear one thing" I think that was X's choice, and more of a symbol than something to be taken literally since it was used when the other kids started wearing overalls too. Maybe they could have done different colored overalls, but then again some kids like wearing the same clothes so it's not that crazy for it to have been X's decision. I don't think the baby was X's. It was X's younger sibling. X is like, elementary school age that would be horrifying. ^^'
@@secretagentmuffin oh thanks i see what you mean. makes the story less disturbing. im still bothered by this stories tone. and i dont think x made a choice to wear just overalls (metaphorically or not...) . it just added to the soulless feeling i got from all this. as a kid i used to wear superhero costumes, along with some of the weirdest outfits, its part of having fun and using your imagination. also im glad it wasnt his kid.. lol. i just figured with all the other disturbing things going..
i love how this story tells people to not judge a book by its cover. Sports arent just for boys. Cooking isnt just for girls. Respect people no matter what they do or what they like. There people too
Sadly not everyone sees it that way, so doing certain things can ruin your life. Gotta always be careful, but don't change just because someone tells you to do this and that because that not how men or women are supposed to act. Always question why and how these silly rules are here. Because it helped our ancestors, but this is a new age, and we don't have to chase buffalo's off a cliff and not every women has to farm anymore, these rules of "girls cook and clean and men work" aren't needed anymore. Everyone should cook, clean, and work. If you need stupid rules to make yourself feel accomplished and that you don't need common tools to survive, get a grasp on reality. I learned how to cook and clean at 9 years old catch up.

Olivia Rosario I guess they would just choose items styles and hobbies they found appealing to themselves. they would probably join the group they liked the most.
Olivia Rosario Scientists did this experiment with baby monkeys, that they separated from their parents. They put two toys in front of each one individually. The girl monkeys went for the doll more than boys, and I didn't remember what boy toy they used, but more male monkeys went to that one.
Olivia Rosario I'd love to do that if I ever were to have a child. Tho I probably won't do that just because I'm very used to the gender norms. And I'm not fond of children.
Diamond ._. Hmmm doing this with your children might indicate if they are or gonna be transgender. Then again they might just like the toy of the opposite gender for some reason.
And they did it because they liked it! They just wanted to have fun, and be happy! We need to stop putting so much investment into gender performance, because then we don't assign behaviors to being a specific gender or sex, and people can just be.
I love how a story about a non-binary/intersrx child that was written in 1978. Edit: or intersex. :) Edit: Wow! A lot of comments have spewed due to this one comment I made 7 months ago. First of all I'd like to say thank you to the people who have spread awareness of the definition of intersex, as well as other concepts such as sex and gender. Second, whether you're on one side or the other, spreading hate won't do anything. It'll just spread MORE hate. It's basically fighting fire with fire. Third, I'd like to say thank you again to those who are fighting for those who don't have a voice, but just to reiterate, please don't spark hate. Don't stoop down to their level. Raise your head. You may win the battle, but the war is just beginning. Edit again: 2.1k? That's amazing!! It's nice to look back on this video and remember all of the things that I didn't know with new information in my head. Here are some points I learned from the comment section and from months of experience and research. There's a difference between sex and gender, sex is what you were assigned at birth while gender is something that really plays more into society roles. Gender dysphoria exits. Being physically intersex exists.so why can't mentally?
@@EffortLevelZeroProductions actually I'm pretty sure there's a difference between gender and sex, and genitals only define your sex (of which there are two)
yeah, its weird. seems like the moral of the story isn't exactly that "gender doesn't matter," but more like "gender doesn't matter yet, we can deal with that later." and i'm not sure how to feel about that, because it's very possible to have issues with self-identity and want to be able to define who you are and articulate it to others. and being unable to do that is distressing. idk if it would be harder to cope with or easier as a prepubescent child.
(Just assuming) Problably X is going to like both of the genders but isn't going to go for the genders, more of like the way they are inside. X is going to be confused at first but will find out that what matters is what's inside of the person and how the person is.
Hey, I really hope you get there. You are an amazing person, just the way you are. And if some people don't accept you, there will always be those who do. I hope you are as happy and proud of yourself as I am. Have a great day 💙
I ACCEPT YOU!!!! As a fellow Enby I struggle sometimes with accepting myself. But knowing that I’m not alone and not internalizing nonsense helps a whole bunch :)))
No it's not. The vid is saying that a child raised without the rules of gender is normal. Notice all the people talking about boy rules and girl rules, and how X does both as these rules shouldn't exist
Maybe because other people such as people at school would bully a non-gender-specific person. Honestly though I firmly believe that if someone were to have a supportive and healthy home-life they could face anything the world has to offer and be fine.
Watched this after I started asking “Hey...... I don’t think gender is all what it’s cracked out to be... but I’m not sure.” Been ~4 years and I’m p r e t t y sure that I’m, well, _sure_
I’m a boy and I used to play with dolls when I was in pre-k, even though I was made fun for it and my dad told me to stop doing it. But when no one was looking I would play with the dolls, even though I’m not non-binary or lgbt(not saying it’s a bad thing) it didn’t really matter to me whether or not I was playing with an action figure or a doll I liked them both this story kinda reminds me of that and I really like this short it’s so underrated and deserves to heard tbh.
I also forgot to mention sometimes in preschool they would make the boys do ballet sometimes even though the other boys hated I enjoyed it and now I kinda wish I could dance. And when we would play dress up I would do the boy and the girl clothes. I was just one of those kids who didn’t really care about what anyone said despite being the oddball. I still am one today despite people looking at me weird I just need to ignore it, live my life, and keep going. It’s kinda funny how as you get older people try to separate boys and girls with rules, while when you’re younger it doesn’t really matter. As I’ve grown where I go the kids aren’t really as accepting when it comes to new idea or something like that. Hopefully someday soon people might me more accepting towards something new or different or out of the norm but for now everything is still black-and-white for them. But for me it’s a whole new world of color. Always be your true self no matter what the others say only you yourself can make a change.👍🏾🙂
people seem to not realise theres literally no difference between action figures and dolls except for the price tag. gender expectations on children are ridiculous. good for you for doing whatever you wanted. my parents pushed gender stereotypes on me and still continue to do so. when i was a kid it was "girls play with toy kitchens and barbie dolls and wear frilly dresses" and then i came out as trans and now its "men dont take bubble baths or wear face masks (basically it boiled down to men dont take care of themselves or their skin), men dont wear makeup or wear pink and men use power tools and mow the lawn and play sports." i mean i couldnt give less of a shit what others think i should dress, look, or act but it does cause some distress. sure the accept me as the gender i identify with but the fact that they cant accept my interests because they arent traditionally masculine or accept my fashion sense or how i played as a kid because it wasnt traditionally feminine does cause damage, despite being an adult now.
Daniel Johnson kinda funny as a kid the only real toy I went for was very androgynous (not pertaining to one gender or another) toys. Like, my favorite toys were video games and cup-stacking (yeah) and in my opinion those can’t be described as for one gender or another. Nowadays I cut my hair but I also shave my legs, because it’s better to take the best of both worlds.
FUCKING THANK YOU, everyone in this comment section is obsessed with the idea that there gender is based off what they like and I've been repeating the same damn paragraph: "Look you can play with whatever you want and wear whatever you want and hell, you can love whoever you want, but whats in between yr legs is yr gender and you can't change it unless you find a way to surgically change it but that doesn't mean a boy can't play with dolls or like other boy's it just means he's a boy"
For a while I thought I was transgender, the only part of my body that I didn’t like was being skinny ( some people can not have it while being transgender) and I didn’t want to change my body permanently because I felt bad that I was abandoning my other gender so now I’m here. I watched this video last year and I said “Well I’m transgender” jokes on me.

When marketing companies and manufacturing companies come up with a product there is a specific group they have in mind that will use it. So there shouldn't be a gender designated to an item but there is and it will be awhile before it happens.
X is the kind of child I want. I mean... if my son wants to do ballet I would support him and if my daughter wants to play football I’ll play with her.
Lots of men dance in ballet. And a lot of them aren't gay. I don't know many women who want to play football, though. I grew up with Barbies and Matchbox cars....but I knew I was a girl. And being a girl never stopped me from doing what I wanted. Knowing who and what you are is perfectly fine. But argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they're yours.

Same especially when X got to be itself
Chase Madison Bro, literally this person is stating what they are and you are bringing your school into it...Just let them be who they are and don’t fight and pester them about it 👌
Chase Madison Bro, did you not read Lackluster’s last sentence? To prevent miscommunication (because at this point, miscommunication is the LAST thing we need), I’ll just put in quotes what they said, “If you don’t like what someone says, you should just ignore it so it doesn’t become a big argument.”
I am begging on my knees for you to stop.

I would personally give ambiguous names (unless they were born with it - adopting) and give them non-specific clothes (even if gender norms are a sham).

That sounds like a very good manga
Or have you read high-school nightmare

Oo sounds like an interesting manga! I’ll have to check it out, thank you!
A while ago I watched this video and found it kind of stupid. Who doesn’t have a gender? That’s impossible. I’m really sorry if I commented anything offended, because now, as I realize I myself am non binary, yeah, it’s pretty possible
Such a wholesome comment and reply. I'm happy for you two having discovered your own identities 💙
It’s basically impossible but it’s more about choices then appearance??

Ever since I took Psych, I've wondered what would happen if you raised a child without introducing social-cultural gender norms to them.
Olivia Rosario They would probably still enjoy stuff that their gender normally likes. This video is fucking stupid
WHEN THE KIDS WERE LIKE “YO WE SHOULD DO THIS TOO” IT MADE ME SO HAPPY
And they did it because they liked it! They just wanted to have fun, and be happy! We need to stop putting so much investment into gender performance, because then we don't assign behaviors to being a specific gender or sex, and people can just be.

And here I am crying like a baby a 4:00 in the morning at the thought of being accepted for being non binary
Hey, I really hope you get there. You are an amazing person, just the way you are. And if some people don't accept you, there will always be those who do. I hope you are as happy and proud of yourself as I am. Have a great day 💙
Hello, as a random internet stranger, i give you kudos! You are beautiful just the way you are!
I ACCEPT YOU!!!! As a fellow Enby I struggle sometimes with accepting myself. But knowing that I’m not alone and not internalizing nonsense helps a whole bunch :)))
I hope everyone knows this is an awareness video basically saying "Hey! Non Bionary people are people too"!
You do you boo
like we didn't already know and embrace that
No it's not. The vid is saying that a child raised without the rules of gender is normal. Notice all the people talking about boy rules and girl rules, and how X does both as these rules shouldn't exist
@@westtexas_4491 it can be both, okay
True, I also want to look at it that girls or boys don't HAVE to do things that is for their gender.
Thank you

“What is X? We still wanna know!”
Me: X is a human. Deal with it
I forgot I commented this
"What is X?" "They're a kid. And they're HAPPY, isn't that what matters most? Them being happy and healthy?"
This if from the 70s,they/them pronouns weren’t used to refer to people then or atleast not normalized. That’s why they use “it”.
Good message
Stop letting gender roles dictate how one should act. Do whatever it is you like and be true to yourself
How does being free to choose whatever you like best lead to depression? How does being allowed to be yourself lead to suicide?
Maybe because other people such as people at school would bully a non-gender-specific person. Honestly though I firmly believe that if someone were to have a supportive and healthy home-life they could face anything the world has to offer and be fine.
me360ly I never felt like there were gender roles. I've always done whatever I liked.
Michael Goldshmidt no one said that. They literally said be yourself. And that gender doesn't have to dictate the way you live. Let people live
You're either a BOY or GIRL. Not a nothing or something.
Let me guess....... Rule 1 is....
Never, under any circumstances, ever let Marvel or DC get their hands on X.

As a nonbinary person, you either get It or They for pronouns.
@@elmucho391 that really depends on the person's preferences. "They" might sound too awkward to the person.

Watched this after I started asking
“Hey...... I don’t think gender is all what it’s cracked out to be... but I’m not sure.”
Been ~4 years and I’m p r e t t y sure that I’m, well, _sure_
Always be your true self no matter what the others say only you yourself can make a change.👍🏾🙂
people seem to not realise theres literally no difference between action figures and dolls except for the price tag. gender expectations on children are ridiculous. good for you for doing whatever you wanted.
my parents pushed gender stereotypes on me and still continue to do so. when i was a kid it was "girls play with toy kitchens and barbie dolls and wear frilly dresses" and then i came out as trans and now its "men dont take bubble baths or wear face masks (basically it boiled down to men dont take care of themselves or their skin), men dont wear makeup or wear pink and men use power tools and mow the lawn and play sports."
i mean i couldnt give less of a shit what others think i should dress, look, or act but it does cause some distress. sure the accept me as the gender i identify with but the fact that they cant accept my interests because they arent traditionally masculine or accept my fashion sense or how i played as a kid because it wasnt traditionally feminine does cause damage, despite being an adult now.
Well action figures are dolls

I remember watching this as a kid. Over and over again. This 100% pushed me in the right direction as a child
this video shows that boys can play with girl stuff and girls can play with boy stuff. it doesn't matter what you like. just be yourself.
Ceil Phantomhive except there is no boy stuff or girl stuff, it's just stuff :3
tobihaeuchu
my sister told me, after I was getting mad at my mom for constantly saying this thing is for girls and this thing is for boys, that this "stuff" does have a specific gender. When marketing companies and manufacturing companies come up with a product there is a specific group they have in mind that will use it. So there shouldn't be a gender designated to an item but there is and it will be awhile before it happens.
kyoxtohru112 okie
Ceil Phantomhive the boys at our school laughed at us because we played football (soccer) . I mean we rarely even play it and it's not fully for boys.
Ceil Phantomhive PRECISELY
X is the kind of child I want. I mean... if my son wants to do ballet I would support him and if my daughter wants to play football I’ll play with her.
Skip the Day dudes playing ballet is my aesthetic
Skip the Day U GO AHEADLET MY CHILD BE UR CHILD'S BFF
I wanna play football, and I’m a girl
Same
Lots of men dance in ballet.
Narrator: "X is neither boy nor girl"
Also Narrator: *Says he and his when talking about X*
Me: That's illegal
The narrator says 'it'
he and his is used when your unsure of the gender. This derived from Greece. Probably because using she or her was a disgrace back then.
They and them are used nowdays
the narrator says "it"
sometimes the narrator voices other characters that assume that X is a boy and uses "he"
@vanessa White From what I saw, normally the girl characters call X "he" and the boy characters call X "she"
