This just really shows the dominance of English and how much UK has got benefit from the language rule. I truly don't think UK has 5 victories and 15th second places just because they were good. Also all Ireland victories came with English. Countries speaking major language (English, French) had huge advantage when the language rule still excited.
I disagree. The songs and performances we sent pre-1999 were of a much higher standard, even when the language rule existed. Remember, even when the language rule was temporarily lifted in the 1970s, the UK’s results were 3rd-4th-2nd-1st. I’d say the UK’s only undeserved 2nd places were 1964, 1989 and 1992, and the UK’s only undeserved victories were 1976 and 1981.
The U.K. and Ireland didn’t win just because of English, otherwise they’d win every year. They simply just took the contest a lot more seriously before the campness exploded in the early 00s. Plenty of their wins and 2nd places were very good.
I think we deserved 1989 but I recognise it's a minority opinion.
UK of course
2021 was France's 5th 2nd-place Finish and their first Run-up in 30 years
who's here after they the uk ended up second again in 2022?
United Kingdom?
UK came second again in 2022.
Ireland has the most wins (7).
Here's the rest of them:
France with the most 3rd and 4th places! (7 each!)
Sweden with the most 5th places! (10!)
And Italy with the most 6th places! (5!)
Do it with top 5
Sweden has won 6 times but only came second 1 time
And it was back in the 60s...
