You put a lot into a 10 minute video Steve. The compilation of historic footage, camera shots and score made this a great watch. While I'm tuning in for the kayak updates, your presentation skills set you apart. Keep them coming.
Thanks a lot David, I appreciate it. And I've got lots of kayaking videos planned this year so stay tuned 🙂
Came here for the kayak reviews, got hooked on the film making. Absolutely cracking mate.
Excellent quality here, I love your content and I started following you on youtube for a while now. Great stuff. You are the reason why I will buy a kayak, currently doing paddleboarding.
Well done Stevie, amazing quality once again
Such a class video mate. Great vibe, proper HQ documentary style.
Thanks very much 🙏
Thanks for taking me along!
My pleasure, thanks for watching 🙏
ABSOLUTELY SUPERB! Well done Steve, why has this not got 100K views RUclips?
Amazing video, for a french like me it's very cool to discover London form an another point of view, Thanks man!
Thanks very much 🙏
What a cracking trip .... i live right in east london by the canal //// and just bought a x 500 for when im not moutainbiking or kitesurfing . really enjoy your videos. You have a nice peaceful manor and it inspires me . Many thanks brother . Barny
Thanks so much Barny, you'll love the x500, such a great and practical boat 🚣♂️
Most enjoyable, thanks Steve. Glad I found your channel, I needed some good honest reviews of routes to paddle.
Marvellous filming and editing, Stevie, thanks. Loved the historical footage too.
Thanks very much Andrew
Great soundtrack bud!
Great composition! That intro is MUSTARD HOT!
Thanks Steve!
Thanks for great video one of the few. I did canal stretch in my IK other day in January and really enjoyed it. I always start in west LDN launching from Old oak bridge, The Collective old oak residency. Usually paddled up to Camden. Always wanted to explore more. My curiosity, earlier morning and thermos with hot drink took me further. I made all the way to Victoria park. Couldn’t go foward as it was getting dark, days are so short in winter. With some stopping in Camden market, going through 3 locks together with barge and lunch in Victoria park it took me 6+ hours with return. Will do it again and will go for full day beyond Victoria park. I didn’t see the sign of that long tunnel or did I? paddled through with torch, there was literally no barge traffic.but next time I’ll wait and follow barge although they’re lot slower.
Thanks Kris. You're right about the short days in winter, I wanted to film a lot more when I made this - especially around the zoo and Regent's Park, but I could feel the sun going down quickly and needed to get back to Paddington before dark.
I bet the Regents Canal will be great in the summer
@@StevieWyatt I love that area also in dark, , Little Venice up to St.Mary’s hospital is lovely too with many barge restaurants lit up and shops/cafes around. Highly recommend.
Nice vid Stevie. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks very much Paul
Production values on this one are outstanding - good job! I've been working my way through your videos and really enjoying the relatability of them all, especially the Medway and Thames adventures - I hope this comes across in the right way, but watching you learn from mistakes is really going to help me when I get on the water and hopefully make some of the same journeys.
Thanks so much for your nice comments. One of the reasons I keep my mistakes in rather than edit them out is because I want to share what I'm learning along the way
@@StevieWyatt all power to you Stevie
Fantastic video 👍 . I just waiting for summer to do River Wye or something similar.
Beautifully made. Thank you!
Nicely put together, great use of the historic clips. Enjoyed it, thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much Mike
Great short one Stevie! Loved it. Your cinematography & editing has come a long way from the first vids! Top job 👍🏻
Thanks very much Darren 🙏
Great vid great editing
Thanks very much Jack
Excellent videos, good quality, edition, content, etc. Subscribed!
Thanks so much 🙏
Excellent!
Thanks!
Your videos have convinced me to get this kayak. I have ambitions of growing into something more sea-worthy and doing large-scale expeditions like the English Channel and the Irish Sea crossings. But this is a great place to start certainly! Doing the Ashby canal is probably going to be where I'll start, about 22 miles of lock free rural paddling! Cheers for the informative videos
Thanks so much! 22 miles lock free sounds wonderful, I'll check out the Ashby. Good luck with the kayak, I absolutely love mine 🙂
@@StevieWyatt You should check it out, great paddling scenes. The Lancaster is 41 miles of lock free water too, but that's for another time for me.
On a side note I'd love to see a video of your filming set up, how you record from the x500, with a rigid I'm guessing suction cups on the kayak but how do you keep a camera still on the x500? I love the frame with the bow in shot and would like to record/take pictures from a similar angle.
@@TheAnglan It seems Stevie fixed it to his backpack in front of the cockpit... check at 1:25.
I'm researching some headgear, I'd like to record some PoV videos in the future. I was also thinking of a chest mount for a moment but realized that with a correct fast paddling technique, the camera would be just going left-right-left-right all the time (due to torso rotation).
Hi Steve,
great video, as always, will done mate.
p.s. Decathlon have a packraft, not in our stores yet (P500). Definitely on my radar for my future adventures.
Regards
Rich
Thanks very much Rich. Yes I'm looking forward to the packraft coming out in the UK, looks loads of fun!
Really enjoyed this video. Was great to see how you even tackled the portage. Really cool video for people not from the UK, as was able to get a sense of the places and the trip. (Camden area looked v interesting and also Paddington Station)
Awesome trip mate and plenty of great information 🚣♂️🚣♂️🚣♂️👍👍👍
Thanks George
I think this is my favourite one yet. I really enjoyed the historical clips. That intro too - wow! That Kayak looks made for these types of trips as well. What model is it?
Thanks! It's the Itiwit x500 I got from Decathlon. Would have been a logistical struggle to do this trio in the rigid kayak
Hi Stevie, what a fantastic vlog, enthralling and very skilfully shot and edited. So pleased I’ve found your channel. 😊
Thanks very much Stephen 🙏
cool my friend !!!👌👍
this is brilliant - great paddling and epic video :)
Thanks so much!
Great video! Being from London, I love paddling the section between Maida Vale and Camden for a quick paddle - did you see the wild dogs? Sometimes they're out and you can see them from the kayak
Didn't see any wild dogs, but I loved doing some urban paddling. A very different vibe from what I normally do, will definitely be doing some more in the future
Beautiful video. Made even better as it’s a canal I was wondering about paddle boarding myself, and now you have shown us what it’s like. Can’t get enough of your videos. Well done mate
Thanks so much! This would be great on a SUP, especially Paddington to Camden
Really nice video Steve, love your work. A couple of questions. At 4:48 did you really leave your camera on the towpath to film yoursef paddling by? Your faith in the honesty of your fellow man is an inspiration. Secondly I have been looking at other vids of people paddling the london waterways and a lot of them seem to be choked with green weed on the water surface - but not here. Is this a winter/summer thing?
Thanks!
For the wide shots (and also the timelapses) I used an Insta 360 GO 2. This is a tiny camera that has a magnet on it, so I can stick it to a lamp post (or an unsuspecting narrowboat!) and literally nobody notices it's there. So it's great for solo filming where you still want to get wide shots.
As for the weed, yeah London's canals aren't fast flowing water like a river so weeds and algae can develop in warm conditions. You see CRT dredging boats on the canals in the summer, kind of like underwater lawnmowers. They help but it's difficult to manage. It generally shouldn't affect your paddling though, and anything harmful to your health will be well signposted. Local knowledge is best, so chat to other waterway users.
Hey Stevie I absolutely loved this. Your production skills are surging ahead. Congrats also on getting 10k views on your review video. Looking forward to see lots more from you this year
Thanks so much Larry
Beautiful video mate. Really enjoyed it!
Thanks so much!
very nicely put together mate!
Thanks Alex 🙏
Nice one Steve 👍
Thanks Jason!
Thanks for your lovely video, I really enjoyed it, I live at london , and also want buy an inflatable kayak like yours. Do I need a license or permit? For personal use not for business, many thanks. And please continue to update, really enjoy the videos!
Great video stevie, I watched it because I am contemplating buying the x500, I guess you would recommend it. How long did that take you limehouse to paddington, and how is the Portage at islington tunnel.
Great video! At what point did you get in to start and where did you get out ? Could you write a little memo for somebody like myself who is planning to do it?
Great video. Two years ago I've also bought an x500, but I've only been using it in the summer. Afraid of the cold water. What kind of clothing/wetsuit do you use on these winter trips?
Thanks Sam! I wear a technical base layer, then neoprene long john type wetsuit, then fleece layer on top of that (a merino wool jumper in this case). On top I wear a wind/ waterproof jacket/ cag. It works well in the cold, and the paddling keeps me warm. I usually end up taking the jumper off after an hour.
The only problem was my feet got really cold in this video. I'm wearing merino socks and neoprene boots. Someone suggested heated socks so I might give that a try, or hand warmers in the boots.
The idea behind this set up is not dressing for the cold air, but dressing for the water in case I fall in. Hence the neoprene.
