  • The 8 year old and I took a 2 day/2 night trip to Hoosier National Forest to camp out the weekend of July 4th and it was a great time.
    The video starts with full camp set up and then we had a bird who hung out with us for most of the day on Saturday. After that, the youngin' went to sleep, I got to enjoy a nice fire, some beer, and the sound of multiple fireworks displays from afar!
    Enjoy!
    Also, I've had a couple of people ask about the table that I show in the video, so here's a link to that if you're looking for something similar: amzn.to/34PCEpH

    The bird was really something. What a great memory for you two to share. Plus, it's immortalized in video.
    My best wild animal interaction story involves a VERY curious Rock Bass that let my sister and I "pet" it from between its eyes to its mouth. We each did it multiple times, and when we weren't, it would just swim around us looking for food under rocks. Eventually we had to head in to shore and it went wherever Rock Bass go. I cherish that memory.

      Awesome story! Thanks for sharing! I've probably spent 150 nights out in the wild camping/Overlanding in the last 3-4 years and I have never had anything like the bird situation happen before. It was pretty cool for it to happen with my son there, :D.

      @@AllThingsOverlanding Yeah. It's awesome you had that experience. Even better that it's on vid so we could experience it as well.
      Your son may not appreciate how special it was, but he will. I imagine he'll be like 30, and say, "Dad, remember when that bird hung out with us at camp?" It will be special all over again.

    Spent 5 days in the hoosier myself over the 4th. Best trip I have had on a Holiday weekend in years.

      It was surprisingly quiet too. Really nice weekend. Also, the weather was perfect with highs around 80 and lows in the mid to high 50's. Glad you had fun!

      @@AllThingsOverlanding That's what amazed me. We did not hear a single single person other than cars drive by. Even the fireworks in the distance was pretty quiet from out spot. We had a frog that hung out with us. Not near as cool as your bird. Only complaint was ticks where aweful. Lots of deet was used

      @@Ambohouse Yep, we were worried about even getting a spot so we left Friday morning but the first one I tried was open. Both my son and I had multiple ticks on us when we got home, so that was fun, haha.

    I would love to see a video of mistakes beginners SHOULD make and LEARN from.
    Some people learn by hearing, some by watching, and some have to piss on the electric fence themselves

    Nice setup! Do have a question, I've got a ovs 180 coming monday. I've got a 18 compass with cheap crossbars on it, ik these are 53lbs I have a 6x8 awning I ran last year with a basket on them kinda worried about the extra weight to the driver side I'll be putting the new one on, worried about the passenger side crossbar mounts. Not to many options I have with the roof.

    • @AllThingsOverlanding
      @AllThingsOverlanding  3 года назад +1

      Hmm, that's a good question. That's the whole reason I built my DIY unistrut roof rack and then bolted that to my stock bars (which I imagine are heftier than the ones on a Compass) and I haven't had any problems. It might be a question to email or call the roof rack crossbar manufacturer? Otherwise, you may just have to try it and see if it feels safe strong, but that's a little tricky. Good luck!

      @jasonfawson2559 3 года назад +1

      @@AllThingsOverlanding yeah after ordering I thought the what if. Ik you used 2 mounts and thought 2 on the crossbars and a center on the rack. Still a strain on the 2 bolts per crossbar. Lol. Theoretically I'd think it would be fine. It's not something I'll keep on going back and forth to work. Days off camping. The 6x8 I left it on. But it was light no issues

      Ik these are new and seen your vid. Was looking at a 270 but the hatch like you and 180 seemed perfect. It will be a cautious test!

      @@jasonfawson2559 Makes sense. It always feels dangerous when you're strapping stuff to the roof, haha. It took me a while to be comfortable with mine with the RTT and awning up there.

      @@AllThingsOverlanding definitely I have a 14 person tent and camp chairs strapped good but always looking out the mirrors. Getting on the kids. Watch for stuff falling off. Lol. Even the small awning. I'll reach my hand out the window to feel it. "Is it still up their" lol
