So many memories of Riverfront stadium and the Big Red Machine....so fortunate to have been there.....thanks Dad!....and yes Johnny Bench you were my favorite as I was a little league catcher!
In 1973 my brother saw in person Johnny Bench catch and throw, John Bonham play the drums , and Secretariat race at Louisville. So he saw three individuals who were the very best at their collective occupations at work in the course a few months.
If I win lotto I would do the same thing. These Men are great Americans & gave there heart & souls for there teams & fans. Great story. JB is a blessed man. Good for him. 😃
There’s always good Christmas stories. What a fantastic story. I remember Bob Prince saying, “lay some chicken on the hill with Will” about Stargell’s Home runs.
I was at Riverfront in 2000 when Mark McGwire hit the longest home run in that stadium's history. It's true about losing track of the ball as it sails into the upper deck. Once it's way up there it's almost like the ball just evaporates...
The first thing I thought about while watching this is that Curt Flood is the Jesus Christ of Major League Baseball. He sacrificed his career so that today's players don't have to auction off memorabilia like Johnny did. I hope today's multimillionaires know about Flood and appreciate his contribution to their financial comfort.
Wait...did JB say that Concepcion put one in the upper deck at Riverfront?? Dave was my favorite back in the day, but I never saw him hit any monster homeruns.
He's right Reds fan here Davey Conception developed more pop in his bat as he aged.Yes he did put one in the upper deck or red seats in the old Riverfront Stadium
I went to old Yankee stadium around 05 and it was kind of awful tbh. Those steep 300 levels where you just baked in the sun on metal seats did not help the experience.

I could listen to Johnny all day!!
I could listen to Johnny everyday. He's a great man! I'm glad that man bought his memorabilia and gave it back to him. Just super!!
He was the reason I was a catcher. Loved his kids show The Baseball Bunch. Amazing story.
The GOAT. I wore #5 when I was a catcher, and I wasn’t even a Reds fan. Great player and great guy.
Johnny’s my cousin and this absolutely brings happy tears to my eyes! God bless Alan for being so generous!
Johnny Bench is my favorite interview on the show. When I see you have him on, I know I have to watch. Great storyteller.
So many great stories every time I see him interviewed.
Please have Johnny on every couple of months, hes become a friend of the show. It's always one of the beat shows.
Johnny's a great storyteller and what a memory on all the details!
Just watched the '76 series, game four; the guy was a monster talent! Great interview, Dan. Thanks!

Thanks Johnny, I had never heard of the MLB catcher/player Clay Dalrymple until you mentioned him, you should learn something new everyday...
There goes Johnny Bench, the greatest catcher who ever lived.

Incredible story and man.
The GOAT of GOATs
Awesome act of kindness ❤️
The greatest catcher in history. Why didn't MLB step up and pay for all of that stuff and help him out?
I’m sure he gets a decent pension. He appears to be fairly well off. I think he did to leave a nest egg for his kids.
Probably because mlb is run by miserly assholes who would still pay players minimum wage if they didn't get all uppity and unionize.
Great story to start a Friday.
George Foster hit a few in the upper deck at the old Riverfront Stadium.
Great one
I saw him play at Candlestick when he played the Giants in the 1970’s
Great friendship
Good story. Goes to show you how little these guys made back in 1960s and 1970s.
Best catcher ever
I was just sick JB had to sell till I heard the return. super.
As a kid that grew up worshipping Johnny Bench, I am so sad that he was in that position and how great is Alan Horwitz? So much for be anonymous.
Still have to give yogi Berra and Fisk there do
Luv Johnny bench

Ted Williams head still available?
I think Stargell hit one completely out of Dodger Stadium
Yes, Willie was the 1st player to do it , a couple of others have done after him .
@@robertd.7060 Stargell did it twice! Others once are McGuire, Piazza & Stanton.
He did. I was there. It was the loudest Crack of the bat I have ever heard.
Cool story
Horowitz is very rich .....he was probably Pete Rose's old bookie
Collective eye roll

Johnny - The man who just spent a million dollars on your memorabilia - and gave it back to you - is Alan Horwitz - not Horowitz. Just trying to help.
