    Of all the original brands that still offer a Flieger I do think Laco's design is truest to the originals, especially the Type B dials which I'm a fan of, it's a cool watch, agree on the lug width of this model being to narrow though.

    Looking back in history, the 'new demands' (i.e. Small watches) for "Fligers," are a hard press on the manufacture of 'em.
    Since the original watches where 50+ mm.
    That's why the strap needs to be narrow, to make the smaller case look bigger.
    And by the way, a real Pilots watch was a Chronograph.
    The rest of the crew where issued with an A or B type.
    Beobachtungs uhren translate to Navigaters watches. (Beobachtung = Observation.)
    This should clear a lot of misguided asumptions.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  Месяц назад

      I heard they also had 35 mm versions originally for other service members who are on the ground.

      @@EscapementWatch That would be a different style, and not a 'Fliger' Just a normal watch.
      A airmans watch was constructed, so it could be worn outside of the thick jacket sleeve, and with thick leathergloves on.
      That's why they where so big. And oh yes, for the visibillity too.

  • @Martinhauer

    Laco pilot watches are so classic.
    I have the Laco Westerland that is a type A pilot watch.
    The case shape is original as from the time in WWII and you will not find that so in the other pilot watches so. Besides the good readability makes Laco so unique.
    Next, you could introduce Hanhart pilot watches. There I have the 417es also in the collection. It also has a lot of history as does Hanhart itself.

    Have a Stowa Flieger 36mm type A, yes it does wear larger. I bought it about 13 years ago, paid extra for a top grade eta 2824 and bought an extra strap. First to me at the time, an expensive watch. Paid more or less what you paid, maybe $100 or so more not counting the extra strap. I agree it wears larger than a 36mm do to the dail presence. My type B is also a Stowa Type B 43mm, also with a top grade eta 2824. Both are sterile dials, which for a flieger is what you want. I think you should keep it unless you want to go IWC with an inhouse movement. Not sure if they make a type B. Main reason is you will be taking a hit with each sale and buy. There is no perfect watch. Your Laco looks pretty nice, to me with a Type B I would prefer larger. Don't go flieger crazy, if anything go for a Type A 40mm, or 39, from either Laco or Stowa in the future.

    • @hudldevice1092
      @hudldevice1092 2 года назад

      I have a Stowa 36 type A in bronze and also the Laco 39 type B that is reviewed on this video. Love them both, although my Stowa has an exhibition case back, which is cool but it does give me more concerns regarding durability etc. As you say, given the type of watch these fliegers are (i.e. all dial and very little bezel), they do wear bigger than the average, so, with a 6.7 inch (17cm wrist), I decided to err on the side of caution and not go 40mm+. As I say, I'm very happy with them both.

  • @dustinr16
    @dustinr16 2 года назад +2

    Personally I prefer the STOWA Fliegers. The case is more like a normal watch and I love their logo. Unfortunately the STOWA 36mm is too small and the 40mm is too big for my 6.5” wrist. The Laco case is much closer to the actual 55+mm Flieger watches, but it makes the watch wear funny with the lugs mid-case. I’d get either the 37mm or 40mm Laco Flieger Pro if I were you. The case is much more wearable and they’re built to order to your specifications (movement, dial, AR coating, strap etc.). Also has a screw down crown and 200M water resistance.

    If Laco's gonna sell those for 1130USD then id say Hamilton's been selling its KHAKI AVIATION PILOT DAY DATE AUTO, or the "Cooper" way short for the amount of features it has -for a flieger(albeit a modern one). I got my Hamilton "Cooper" for about 725USD and at the time they were going for about 900USD from the website. A very full watch it is, WITH a swiss movement, day and date and quite a bit of work done by somebody to give it a lively appearance. And its cheaper than a Laco's and their printed dials LoL. If they brought this watch down just below quadruple digits they might get more people to buy it, making them MORE money in the long run! The one tiny home run they hit for me is that second hand glowing in the dark. I cannot believe the number of watches out there that dont have illumination on the second hand!
