As someone who is doing filmmaking and Unreal Engine this stuff is super exciting :) I even wrote my bachelor thesis about photogrammetry, performance capture and virtual production.
Hello! I am currently interested in writing my bachelor thesis about virtual production! Would you mind to share your thesis? I would love to read it. Just out of curiosity 😊 Hope you are even a good day!
I'm afraid that, at this rate, you'll soon splice reality and Unreal and get lost in the program like Jeff Bridges in the Tron movies. Just make sure you design yourself a good -light- motor cycle before that happens.
You can also use the DeckLink Mini Recorder 4K, right? I mean, for 4K DCI up to 30fps video input. Or the DeckLink SDI 4K which also allow 4k DCI video output, right?
I'm trying to imagine what's going on inside Unreal to make this work - the video feed is a fixed frame rate/timing, but generally game engine output is variable frame rate... so I guess real-time texture re-mapping? I don't want to discourage you from the fun of getting a new camera (the UMP G2 looks great!), and I don't know what your needs are, or specifically what the heck comes out of the C300 HDMI port, but would a Blackmagic (or AJA or Atomos) HDMI to SDI converter be worth trying before jumping to a new camera? When you say you need timecode output are you talking about some sort of timing/sync signal, or are you talking about SMPTE time code? At least some of the BM "mini converters" mention timecode conversion, and one thread on the BM forum mentions that some of the Teranex Mini systems convert timecode.
Hi Matt, we are late to the game, and we cannot get stutter-free 4K60P feed in UE (FX6-SDI12G-Decklink 8K Pro-UE4.23), any suggestions? BTW do you use Decklink for the final output feed (with composition) at the same time?
Oh man, this gives me PTSD dealing with Canon outputs for live switching/streaming stuff... the pulldown stuff would always kill me on gigs w/ Arri or RED primary cams.
Hi, just one question, I do have the Decklink 8k pro but I want to ask when I need to output my footage for capturing should I have an SDI cable connected to Blackmagic micro converter SDI to HDMI then connected to another pc in order to capture the video?
Can this monitor the video signal on a separate monitor? The Decklink 8k Pro. While editing video on the computer with 2 monitors. What I say is watch, monitor the video signal that I am editing in Adobe Premiere or another program. As in the old television, a separate monitor was used to see large what is on the monitor of the editing window.
Matt,I kinda doing the same thing as you recently, but I have problem.as far as I remember ,when the decklink ue plugin first came out with ue 4.2.1,I have a decklink duo card(which also has 4 sdi port but not in 12GSDI but 3G,I successfully made it working with ue.but right now,I am using windows 1809 with bmd desktop driver verson 11.4.1 or 10.10 with whether unreal 4.2.1 or 4.2.4,in the media bundle,I'm always geting a "invalid" under configuration that won't let me choose which card (or port in the 4 ports bmd card).since you are getting video feeds from the bmd plugin, can you tell me what windows verson&bmd driver verson& ue verson you are working with?really appreciate this !
@@CinematographyDatabaseI succeded。looks like recently the ue bmd plugin has updated their plugin from ue verson depenent to v2.0 all in one .and this makes the plugin now ony supports ue v4.23.1. no success on 4.24.3 right now.this take me quite sometime, and no one answers questions on the ue marketplace
Hi I try to get a 1080p Video input via Decklink 8k pro into UE4.25. I can get it on selected view port and PIE but not get it on stand alone mode. Is it possible to get Decklink videoinput on stand alone mode?
Does anyone know if its possible to get the Decklink Quad running in unreal engine? In know they`re not claiming that it`s supported. But otherwise I need to wait for 4 SDI HDMI adapters and the Decklink 8k.
yes ,but 8k card is weird in other software, the decklink duo card which also has 4 port can do perfect 2in/2out setting.8k can do all 4 in or all 4 out,but not 2in 2out as I afain
the amount of innovation in the last 3 vids is crazy
The g2 is a gem to use, if you end up getting it you're gonna have alot of fun
Banging my head against a wall for hours trying to get the Sony FS7 to feed into UE4. The 1080i 59.94 trick worked! Thanks Matt!

Im som happy youre doing this at an indie level. I will be follow this for sure!
This totally reminds of when I used my PC TV tuner composite in and my dads DV cam as a makeshift webcam.
Finally! I found what I need to complete my mini Mandalorian set. Now I just need the money to buy what I need LOL

really enjoying your adventure ............keep up the great work!!
Blackmagic should reach out and give you what they are working on.
BMD sent me the Decklink card

I have the same cooling cosrsair best looking so far yet for me.
why not black magic pocket 4k or 6k camera...
This is uber uber interesting!! Keep it Matt :)
Great stuff
is there a full unreal tutorial to show how you did import the video to unreal?
Badass, Matt!!

Thomas Donalek UE4 Can use target fixed frame rate it's pretty stable, at least for timing things like that

Thank goodness the new cams do a lot better with this!
Ian Servin I had forgot that the C300 did some weirdness, it’s been so long since I’ve really used it.
I tried this same test about half a year ago. I got the live green screening to work but it wasn’t great. I’m interested to see your results
Do you have to use the
DeckLink 8K Pro to achieve this or can you use a lower end Decklink card such as the
DeckLink SDI 4K for example?
Hey Asher - Did you ever find an answer to this question? We've got the same one now
lovely content

can you use your webcam from computer or a cheap capture card to use camera feed mines not working the feedis a black screen on the media player

Hey.. Love your stuffs. Can you guide me to do this set up with a red epic dragon?

Read reviews on Amazon, this card didn't get very good reviews. What's been your experience, Matt?
it works great for me and is what every Epic Games workstation uses for VP. Amazon reviews are garbage.
were you going to do a follow up on applying the feed in unreal and keying out the feed?
Yeah check the latest videos
@@CinematographyDatabase Thanks much. I don't see it, but i'll keep digging.

Likely you need to configure the Blackmagic profile to be exactly what signal is coming from the camera.

Is this card the only way to do it? Is there way you can stream the video via usb or hdmi? And use a simpler capture card?
likewise, prores raw?
Next build a DIY AR Wall.
Can u use a black magic pocket 4k for the black magic capture card ?
Do you have any insight as to how to bring in the audio as well?

What's lens use?
Any link to virtual production discord channel? Would a bmcc 2.5k EF be a cheaper camera option?
it's not my channel so hopefully this link works - discord.gg/GJQFYdh
I have to see if the BMCC has all the proper SDI and timecode functions I need for virtual production
Why would you need this card for a mix reality scenario like the Mandalorian set?
You wouldn’t need this for an LED wall shoot.
Thanks, that’s what I thought.
First comment for me! Love how this tech is changing the game!

Hi, i wonder can all 4 SDI ports be used at the same time
in unreal engine?
yes ,but 8k card is weird in other software, the decklink duo card which also has 4 port can do perfect 2in/2out setting.8k can do all 4 in or all 4 out,but not 2in 2out as I afain
could you make a tutorial about i am filming myself but when i see in unreal engine i should see a character?
Is it possible to input footage, preferably 4k, from 2 different cameras inside unreal engine?
yes
Did anyone get it working on MAC?
Oops ....i just bought that same camera C300 in Feb 2024 for $600...im half way thru the video.
Haha, unbox it for no real reason :) Great vid.
Yacker.
