  • Hello everyone! Today's I am showing you how to change the lipo leads and to how to add balance leads to a Traxxas lipo. This is very dangerous and I don't recommend if you don't understand what I am doing in this video. You will also void your Traxxas battery warranty . If you choose to do this modification, please be careful. If you have any questions regarding this video, please comment down below. Just remember I am not responsible for your actions, I also recommend you to research basic electrical and to get a multi meter. Thanks for watching everyone.

    Dude, I’ve been soldering things together since I was a kid, and I’m still afraid to mess with lipos. One fire too many,, I guess. I really like the way you break it down into simple steps. Keep it up! You’re a good educator and your speed run videos are great.

      😂I blew up a coin-cell battery trying to solder it, and was like a firecracker going off on my bench. Scared the cr@p out me! I'm building a spot welder to make Li-Ion battery banks, but getting impatient with how long it's taking me to get it done. I have a set of 20700s sitting on my bench with the leads all prepped and ready, and I just keep looking at it, temping myself, each day that the welder isn't finished yet.

      Well he made it work. But he wasn't doing any favors for that soldering iron tip. And I would head his warnings at the beginning of the video. Very little solder to hold the balance leads on and duck tape is not very wise here. They sell big enough heatshrink all day every day to properly hold all. Of that down. Which If you do this I would advise using it. Because all it takes is one of those wires to short and that lipo is going to burn your house down. Lipos are very nasty batteries, id also recommended a fire safe bag and an ammo can to store these modified batteries in.... Well store all Lipos. Like that regardless.
      But good Info on teaching people how to re use these batteries for other applications and or just doing away with the dumb proprietary connectors.

I took a pic the other day of my SMC 4S lipos perfectly balancing each cell at 4.20 and this AFTER 3 1/2 years of abuse, lol! SMC is a great battery but I give more credit to my iCharger. The RCGroups forum is a great forum and has a thread dedicated to the iCharger and there's a lot of great knowledge over there btw. Wouldn't you been better off just snipping off the standard Traxxas connection and the soldering your new connection in its place? Would have been lots safer than opening up the battery case or even just using an adaptor plug to join from Traxxas to whatever ESC you use. I've seen they are available, as for the way the battery gets balanced that's just something that's intrinsic to Traxxas. Maybe you should buy an aftermarket non Traxxas battery that has its cells balanced properly. If that's what Traxxas do with there batteries then I wouldn't buy Traxxas batteries. I don't know for sure but it wouldn't surprise me if it's Traxxas batteries that have been overly represented in battery fires seeing as how many cars and trucks Traxxas sell.

    • @KiloWattRC
      @KiloWattRC  2 месяца назад

      if you snip off the traxxas connection and solder on your own connection there will be no way to balance. Better off just leaving the pack alone. I mean I build and rebuild packs so opening a lipo pack to me is no different then changing a battery in a car and avoiding shorting the terminals with a wrench. Adapters add more connection points and is never good. I have a ton of lipos on deck this video was requested by users for me to do. Hobby shops that are traxxas dealers a pushed to sell traxxas lipos along with the RC to get rcs at a cheaper rate. So alot of people get suckered into buying them. This lipo in the video was donated by a user as well. There are so many options and my preference is to get lipos directly from factories for testing vs buying from a business that marks them up.

    • @joedipietro2559
      @joedipietro2559 2 месяца назад

      @@KiloWattRC all well and good but the tape to repair the case after opening it up was not safe at all. And for instance I'm using a non Traxxas battery in a TRX 4 ( my battery is a NXE SHORTY 2S LIPO HARDCASE 100 C DISCHARGE 6000 MA/H ) and my battery has a balance cable separately to the main battery cable so I use an adaptor between the ESC to the battery without cutting off the ESC plug. It keeps the Traxxas ESC plug but adapts to Dean's plug. My charger has a seperate balance port from the battery cable port. It works great . I'm in Australia but I'm surprised you haven't seen the adaptor plug I'm referring to over in America. And this adaptor plug won't instantly void my Traxxas warranty which is only a 30 day warranty. But if the TRX 4 craps itself there is no way Traxxas could ever say I voided my warranty by snipping battery cables.

    • @KiloWattRC
      @KiloWattRC  2 месяца назад

      @joedipietro2559 did a IR test is completely fine. I am sorry t9 break it to you but if your lipo says it's a 100c it's honestly can't handle 100c. Trust me man no adapters on my end, of course warranty is void and some honestly don't care and would honestly run better leads along with connections then to worry about warranty when they were already suckered into buying traxxas lipos

    • @joedipietro2559
      @joedipietro2559 2 месяца назад

      Have you seen the battery I'm referring to? I've also seen much more expensive batteries from Spektrum and Gensace that have much higher discharge rates like 130C . Here in Australia we have very high standards on electrical products such as batteries.traxxas themselves actually had a shipping container turned away from the Port of Melbourne in August last year due to tiny minute particles of asbestos found in slipper clutches in Traxxas cars and trucks. The same goes for anything that gets imported here. Very extremely high safety standards that would actually be to strict even for America and China and Europe. Even food standards prohibiting imported food products from overseas. So if a battery is claimed to be a certain discharge rate it is tested or else wouldn't be allowed for sale in Australia under consumer laws. I ain't lying. But the Traxxas TRX 4 chassis platform is a very good , very capable of road crawler . Nothing per say wrong with the mechanical aspect. It's just Traxxas have a crappy reputation for electronic components. As well as the litigation action that give Traxxas a bad name. @KiloWattRC
