18mm is one of the first lenses from Fuji to have higher resolution sensors in mind, along with the new 23 and 33mm lenses, but how much difference do you thing there will be in real world use compared to the older Fuji lenses?
It is hard to say now, as long as we haven’t seen the new sensor. But that’s definitely something that I want to test out: will the extra MP make an actual difference or not. For the moment, I would say that it should but maybe not for most people. If it is just for social media, people might not be able to tell the difference. For professional work though, I think that yes, it could be a game changer and basically close the gap between Crop sensors and full-frame. I think Fuji did a smart move here and it could pay off in the future.
@@ThierryGibralta I would mostly be interested in how my nature pictures look, as I still feel it doesn’t match full frame quality. Perhaps it will in this next version.
The 16 is unique and great. But when I tried the 18mm, I found some of this uniqueness in a more performant body that allowed me to work better. That’s why I switched and it might not be for everyone.
@@ThierryGibralta I won’t be rushing to purchase 18mm considering there ain’t that much difference in terms of focal length between the two lens. Maybe 18mm is much sharper and faster auto focus that’s about it really.
Thanks for the video. Great comparisons! Trying to figure out which Fujifilm camera to buy at this point. Would you know when the new 40mm sensor will start appearing, and in what products?
Unfortunately there is no information about that yet, except a rumor about the X-H2 and several versions of the sensor, similarly to Sony, with one basic version a higher resolution sensor (I assume the 40MP one). But nothing confirmed yet. What are you looking for?
@@ThierryGibralta that’s just it, I’m not sure what I’m looking for. I have old Nikon gear but I want a change and I like the feel of the dials. I was raised on 35mm film and, tactically, that’s how I think. The X100V sparked my interest, but then started looking at the Pro3 and X-T4. Under 2k for a body is my mindset. Then 2 prime lenses to start. 18mm and probably the 33mm (your two videos on those) My safe zone is aperture priority, landscape, architecture. Looking to change that. Street photography is my goal at this point. My office is in Manhattan so that’s the perfect place. Sorry for the long reply!
If you are into architecture and landscape, I would check the 10-24 lens, in combination with the 33mm. Honestly I think that their new sensor will definitely come at a higher price but we cannot know for sure yet. So getting an X-T4 now may not be a bad idea. If you don’t need the IBIS and don’t mind the battery life, you can also have a look at the X-T3. I understand how hard it is to decide before buying, but if you want to be sure, you can also wait a few months and see. Otherwise, well I don’t think that the X-T4 is a bad investment.
Landed on this video after ur reply on ur other video. Very useful review u made! thnks a lot! How ur channel grows more
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks and cheers

Since I didn’t have the 16 mm 1.4, and I already had the 16 -55 zoom, I went with the 18 mm 1.4 with the linear motor. Plus it is sharper. 😉
It is sharper indeed. Honestly the linear motor make a bigger deal than I expected. It feels so good not to have focusing issues…
@@ThierryGibralta
I hear the next Camera sensor will be a 40 megapixel, and the lens is sharper for that reason.
Resolution and sharpness are a bit different though. But yes it will support that resolution

It could be a plus indeed, let’s see!
Have you checked the GFX system? Should be pretty good for nature/landscape photography
I don’t owned 18mm but 16mm is definitely unique in terms of the distinctive colour rendering anamorphic looks.
