"Is that Jared Leto? Ew!" I don't know why but that made me laugh so hard hahahahaha.
It's the proper response.
But he didn't recognize Meatloaf. I suppose this is evidence that this mind-fuck of a film is being seen by another generation.
@@RtotheK605 He can do everything for love...
Why did he say he is a real life villain ?
@@Gaia369 he did forever tarnish the public's image of Joker
If you already know that there's a twist, you know too much. Someone has broken the first 2 rules...
To be fair, the first two rules are meant to be broken. A little bit, anyway.
@@0okamino Well, yes, in the movie's story. But in real world, no way...
One of my favorite bits is all the clues in the narration
"I knew the story before he even told it to me"
"For some reason, I thought of my first fight with Tyler"
And one that I'd completely forgotten about until I saw it in this edit "It was like I was chasing an invisible man"
Some other Fincher that deserves to be seen: Panic Room(2002), Gone Girl(2014), and my second favorite after Se7en, The Game(1997)
i dunno, the game 97 left me unsatisfied.
"Similar suitcase" 1st encounter
The Game is outstanding. Once I was blind, now I can see.
"I know this because Tyler knows this."
Google definition paper street. There’s so many tells, but they switch to something else more extreme as fast as most would start to catch it.
“No incoming calls” on pay phone. Brad Pitt in the commercial he’s watching. Exiting the car after the crash from the opposite side they crashed in.
I appreciate that your initial reaction to Tyler is to find him a little cringey and tryhard - because it actually fits with the twist later in the movie. Tyler is just a loser's idea of a cool guy, a depressed guy's idea of a happy guy, and a timid guy's idea of a tough guy. But you're absolutely right that a ton of guys saw this character and immediately tried to become like him, all while ignoring the fact that the movie's end shows Tyler to be a heartless and destructive character.
I think you may have missed the point of Tyler's character.
@@justmeeagainn Sorry if I gave that impression. My take is that Tyler's character has a few specific points:
1. To show how justified anti-consumerism and individualism (like he talks about at the start) can easily slip into anarchy or even toxic authoritarianism if you're not careful (when Fight Club becomes Project Mayhem).
2. To show how being a cool, charismatic, clever person doesn't automatically mean you're also a wise, constructive, or healthy person. And that can be dangerous - especially if it inspires others to behave just as cruelly, impulsively, and destructively as you.
3. To show that the Narrator is still struggling to truly free himself from society's pressures, because Tyler is full of contradictions. For instance, notice how Tyler mocks fashionable clothes and jokes about men going to the gym in order to look good - but then the movie also shows off multiple scenes of Brad Pitt's flawlessly ripped body, and Tyler frequently dresses in highly stylish and expensive-looking outfits.
Ah yes... another "modern man" opinion on tyler durden 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
@@nel8497 it's literally the authors intention
@@nel8497 The author of Fight Club is a gay man who wrote Tyler Durden as a critique of toxic masculinity and male power fantasies. Know what you're talking about before posting a comment.
This story definitely suffers from the villain getting a misaimed fandom like The Joker. The writer of the book is a gay guy who wrote a story about bad shit that happens from toxic masculinity, and ironically, a lot of toxically masculine types love this for the wrong reasons. It's one of my favorites for the right reasons.
Don't speak for chuck... Toxic masculinity my ass, you don't understand 10% of this movie
Please go listen to Chuck Palahniuk on why he wrote fight club, and how it came about. I’ll put 3 key points…
1) Cacophony Society
2) Ass kicking in the woods/societal avoidance of personal life
3) Rules as a framework of transition
You’re projecting someone else’s interpretation.
"His name is Robert Paulson!"
I watched a reaction from a dude that went from "This Sucks!" to "You Have My Attention!" and finally "Greatest Movie Of All Time!" much like a three act structure.
Fun Fact: Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter spent three days recording orgasmic sounds for their unseen sex scenes.
Fake Bombs Fact: Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) was originally going to recite a workable recipe for home-made explosives (as he does in the novel). But in the interest of public safety, the filmmakers decided to substitute fictional recipes for the real ones.
Beautiful Mess Fact: During the shooting of the film, Helena Bonham Carter insisted that her makeup artist, Julie Pearce, apply all of her eye makeup with her left hand, because Bonham-Carter felt that Marla was not a person who would be particularly skilled at (or concerned with) correctly applying makeup.
Lost In Adaptation Fact: Author Chuck Palahniuk first came up with the idea for the novel after being beaten up on a camping trip when he complained to some nearby campers about the noise of their radio. When he returned to work, he was fascinated to find that nobody would mention or acknowledge his injuries. Palahniuk concluded that the reason people reacted this way was because if they asked him what had happened, a degree of personal interaction would be necessary and his workmates simply didn't care enough to connect with him on a personal level. It was his fascination with this societal 'blocking' which became the foundation for the novel. Author Chuck Palahniuk has stated that he found the film to be an improvement on his novel.
it's funny that when Jared Leto appears, Tyler says "about millionaires and rock stars)
And looks at him when he says it.
RIP Meatloaf aka Robert Paulson
U should see another David Fincher film called Panic Room. Jared Leto in it too. Along with Jodie Foster, Forrest Whitaker, and Kristen Stewart.
Brad pitt plays Tyler so well. He is such a believeable prick with a very opinionated view of the world. If there is a character played by him that is the exact opposite, is his character from the movie “bullet train” called “Ladybug”.
Trust me, if you haven’t watched that movie, I surely recommend it as it has so many set ups and payoffs that really make the movie fun to rewatch.
Fun fact: Brad pitt’s stunt double for this movie directed Bullet train. And his name is David Finch.
Wait, David Finch is also a stunt double? I had no idea he did that!
“I’m KIcking myyy aaAAASSSS”
Do ya mind??? 😅😂😂
"What're you talking about? I never said that."
-The guy from Peaky Blinders
Tyler makes more sense if you have looked in the mirror and hated what is looking back at you. As a non confrontational man with low self-esteem it's very appealing to become the epitome of "masculinity" (very intentional air quotes there). Everyone listens to Tyler and looks up to him. He is the center of attention and he is cutting himself away from the societal rules that enslave the narrator. But Tyler takes the idea to far. By taking control of his life (literally with a gun in his mouth) he no longer needs Tyler and is mature enough to try a mature relationship with Marla. In the book the bombs fail and the narrator wakes up institutionalized but believes he is dead and that his doctor is God. The writer actually liked the film ending more and wished he thought of it first
Great reaction mate
Man, your watch is so perfect, you see and articulate things most people don't and miss. Congrats on early twist understanding, believe me in 1999 it was way too hard, the world was way more innocent and inexperienced :)
WKUK - Fight Club
4 minute skit I think.
"heh, you ever think you and I....are the same person!?"
"god i hope not"
Oh, hell yeah! I'm excited for this, lol. I put off watching this movie for years too...now it's easily in my top 10. Excellent book as well.
There's a few video theories that say Marla isn't real as well, or the other what got me thinking for a minute was: Tyler has testicular cancer. Tylers mind is trying to come to terms with it, thus creating fake Tyler and Marla.
Looooved the reaction. This has been my fave movie since 2006 and I love ppl experiencing it for the 1st time. Fincher is also my fave director and I think if you liked Se7En and this, you'd love to be tripped out by Gone Girl too.
I love your honest and motivated reaction approach and can't wait to binge all your videos, always refreshing to find new reaction ppl that actually put thought and effort into their commentary. :) Cheers have a lovely day!!
Dope reaction Tyler
Idk if I missed it, but I didn’t hear you noticing/mentioning that the flashes of Brad Pitt early in the film are like the flashes Tyler splinches into movies. Where you don’t know you saw it..but you think you did
I love your videos & POV!
the trivia pages always say "starbucks is in every shot" but i think they might mean every scene. i don't care enough to check but i see plenty of no-starbucks that it calls plenty of trivia pages authority into question
I wonder how much you would have picked on if you didn't know there would be a twist. Im annoyed but i actually can't remember my first time watching the movie, I've no idea of it was spoiled for me, if i picked up on the hints while watching, or if i was oblivious until the reveal.
hell yes! welcome back.before going to bed to watch one of my favorite movies with you, what could be better. and by the way, Marla is also an actress who played Bellatrix in Harry Potter. she killed Sirius Black.Harry's godfather. just for the record)
Hadn't thought about it before but a Nutty Professor type sequel would be kind of cool
Everyone needs to read 1 Chuck book in their life.
It was not wise of your friends to suggest that the movie has a twist. That's kind of a spoiler. Otherwise, Jack/Tayler's behavior is based on the same premise as many important works of modern world literature (the book by Chuck Palahniuk is the model). It is actually the loss of the identity of a modern person who has lost close contact with the land, faith, and own integrity. Then comes the destruction, where young frustrated men, disillusioned with the system and their lives, vent their need to at least feel something real by fighting. It is a mirror of the lost Generation X as well as today's sterile society. And by the way, also one of Fincher's greatest masterpieces.
His name is Robert Paulson.
♫ Where is My Mind ♫ (You sort of guessed some of it!)
The book is really great. Hit me right in my Bukowski period.
Finally!
Fight Club 2 is actually a Graphic Novel !
Have you seen American History X?
The rant about the random quotes paired with Tommy Shelby, made me so happy. I’ve always hated those when I see them. Lol
His name is jack
how many of you knew (or even KNOW) someone who tries to be Tyler Durden so badly
*NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN* and *BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN* are both available on Patreon for Full Length right now!

Its pretty funny to see how a decade of people desperately trying and horribly failing to emulate Tyler Durden has made even the original version of the character that spawned archetype and is done about as well as the character can be done, now seems cringey as hell in retrospect.
despite being incredible film, I've always wondered back then why it wasn't nominated for any oscars, later on realized that the oscars are stupid anyways
Snatch
Rounders
I'm going to be that guy, but you should read the book.
Yes, the opening is nerves.
You should watch Mr Robot, it has alot in common and perfected this theme to new levels due to epic television writing.
hm, the Professor of Fight Nutty Club, eh?
with no name, dude
tyler
You’re 100% right, there is a whole toxic filmbro community of like “alpha male” type dudes who idealize Tyler Durden. Which is. Ironic, considering both the film and the book actively work to deconstruct and criticize toxic hyper masculinity by taking it to the absolute extreme. Chuck Palahniuk, the author of the book, is an openly gay man. It’s interesting how this is a trend of weird cringey conservative dudebros latching on to these stories written by gay and trans people and completely missing the point. Another example being The Matrix by the Wachowskis.
nah those movies just prove that "woke people" can be unintentionally "based" sometimes and make a good cinema, sure there is schizos who take it to the extreme and make those movies their whole personality, but seriously, don't get so salty and gaslight implying that being conservative in any way is evil and "wrongthink", because they have different views on what authors meant originally
When the movie came out no "conservatives" existed in the hip generation of the late 90s, early 2000s. EVERYBODY was a socialist douchebag. As a reaction to the 80s hyper consumerism and weaponized patriotism. And Tyler Durden was their god. All his messages are anti establishment and super leftwing if you havent noticed. And how you got trans people into the mix i dont even fking know.
You seem confused.
@@BuckleyBukowski wow that’s a lot of projection and putting words in my mouth bud. I said “cringey conservative dudebros” because that’s the type of dude who go and make these films their personality. If that’s not you, it’s not about you, I never said anything broadly about conservatives or “wrongthink.”
Makes sense why you are a clown enthusiast
Wait, wut? Am I tripping? As in, did I never notice the little flashings, or were they only in the novie because , idk, wherever Prof got this movie from? I _think_ I would've noticed the little flashings at least _once_ in all these years, but maybe I'm wrong? Omg, it's driving me insane 💀💀💀
they are actually in the movies. it's a reference for tyler putting in some stuff in the movies, that don't belong there
17:15 you're amazing
I guess you are too sane to appreciate the messages of this movie.
??? What do you mean?
The whole movie is a satire on toxic masculinity.
That scene when Tyler says that you created me, I didn't make up a loser alter ego. At the end, it wasn't about physical damage, but he finally made the decision not to imitate, want, or chase Tyler.
It had to be a physical response because that's how Tyler was created, so the gunshot wasn't a suicide attempt on himself, but telling himself he didn't need Tyler anymore.
I think you caught on to Palahniuk’s intentions with the character well enough, but don’t discriminate so much against Tyler. Just because he has to share a brain (an existence, for that matter) with the narrator doesn’t necessarily mean he isn’t real. 😉
The narrator’s power animal did tell him to slide. One can definitely slide too far, though.
Greatest film of all time - yes it’s a comedy….congratulations for laughing at 25% of the jokes. Most people miss the whole movie except the identity reveal.
By the 12th viewing you may have discovered most of them.
While I can definitely appreciate your take on this movie and the Ziet Geist it represents, as a GenX, I find it hard to take you seriously. It might be a generational thing. I hope so.
When I was a kid, I had no other choice but to drink water that was orange. It was, as you might expect, from a garden hose. That's all I had. Sorry my kidneys.
If you let it run for a long time, it would get clear. This is the water that I collected for my family.
The orange water does taste funny, in case you were wondering. Not funny haha.
Frankly, I don't think anyone gen Z has the testosterone to experience this kind of psych issue. I think it would play out differently.
What is a Ziet Geist? I tried to look it up, but couldn’t find it. I’ve never heard of that before.
I can’t stand when someone says “If you want a movie with a crazy twist…” it just pisses me off bc it’s a spoiler. You go into the movie anticipating & trying to figure out what the twist is. The thumbnails on TONS of reactions & the title giving away anything makes me so mad. If it’s a vampire movie & you post the vampire as a thumbnail & im scrolling, now I know what the vamps look like, or someone dies in the movie & they put “I cant believe they’re gone!” as the title. Sorry for the rant.
🧼
Yes, sadly Tyler is often used as a simbol of this tennager cringy "sigma/alfa/incel/mommy issues" shit. But the thing is, this movie is a critic to this exact typer of behaviour.
Bob and Marla are not real, and neither are Fight Club or Project Mayhem.
What? Where did you get this info from?
@@mistyxmarlboro "Fight Club: The twist that no one noticed."
Good video that explains it.
I feel like you have to be from an older generation to really understand what you're seeing. There really isn't anything funny about this book/film. It's sad that someone can feel so sedentary that they have to create fantasy to feel connected to something real.
This reaction is lame. It was the reveal back in 99, BEFORE everyone was doing it.
i like it except for helena bonham carter
Wow, that’s crazy. She’s absolutely amazing, gorgeous, & an amazing actress. Why don’t you like her?
Tyler is real. Marla is the true imaginary character. Bob represents the narrator's bisexual impulses that cause him to have a psychotic break.
None of that is true 😂😂
Wtf 😂😂😂
You hating the philosophy is really beta. It's all about being self-sufficient, producing not consuming and being grateful. This called out our current low T, weak male generations no principles, no purpose leading our society to doom. Now he obviously went way too far, but the principles are good
Found the filmbro😂
