Well... its based on the EVH 5150 2... which is based on the EVH 5150... which is based on the EVH 5150 block letter... which is based on the Soldano SLO... which is based on a hot rodded JCM800... which is based on a hot rodded JVM40.... Not much of a stretch at that point really :)
I'm also a Marshall guy who thinks the EVH 5150 III is the best amp. However, I use the EL34 version because, well, EL34's. There's a reason this is Gojira's amp, you know.
Today is Nov 27 2019. I miss this version of Andertons/Chappers. Back then, they were more about having fun and fooling around. Now, it's much more sales/instructional orientated. Not a bad thing, but some of the goofy shit they used to do is legendary!
rob, your playing and sheer passion for playing has inspired me to practice more and more every single day. you are my inspiration to play the guitar and i mean that from the bottom of my heart.
Slime Shady Yeah you're absolutely right! You'd easily be able to tell if they were American because they would: 1 - Be licking each other's tonsils & 2 - Be cousins
I love all of Chappers videos, always extremely informative But this one They could have been talking about sports equipment for all I know, came for the elves, stayed for the elves
My head and 2 x 12 arrive tomorrow. Watching this has got me stoked and you guys really play well. I can half-speed the youtube and cop licks here all day. Sweeeeeet :-) Rock On!!!!
Enjoyed this review quite a lot, thank you ! My ears were wide open to the tones and my eyes couldn't stop looking at the entertaining elves in the background hahah
I love my EVH 50 watt. I used to think back in the day that you needed 100 watts but 50 is plenty loud!! It's my first tube amp and can't believe I was only playing solid state shit before this. The feel and tone is just fantastic.
Sir Rob and Captain lee can you make a video with the members of Djore where you discuss/play favorite guitars and gear. Also a video discussing the best sounding most versatile amps would be bitchin'. Btw Thanks for all the great videos. You helped me past time after I broke my leg playing soccer/football.
I just purchased a new 50-watt version and I'm blown away. Incredible amp. I've been playing through a modded 100-watt Marshall JCM2000 (which I have loved) but the 50-watt EVH 5150 iii is louder, with gobs more gain and better note definition. I still love my Marshall's but can't say enough about this little gem.
Well, he played very well, but because he's been doing bass, there's evidence of some sloppiness to his leads. When he runs his scales, you could clearly tell he stumbles thru the leads. Not say'n he can't smooth it up after some good practice. You see, also he is NOT a regular bassist. He's a guitarist, who fell in-love with playing bass, and switched over. That's why you see him doing all kinds of lead guitar stuff. ..and not the other way around.
One of the better videos I've seen you guys make in a while, and that's good, because I am currently enjoying every one of them anyway, so this is even better, if possible. Props to you and I'm off saving for that epic 50W head.
Auschwitz was a "prank" No, *low* volume isn't what I'm looking for, I need *controllable* volume for recording in a small studio, without making my girlfriend change her mind about being with a musician. You *can* turn the master volume way down and get a passable sound at low volume, but it doesn't have the same sound. Not looking for power amp saturation, but at the same time, a tube amp running at very low volume will sound comparatively thin.
***** No, you don't need to crank it, and with a high-gain head with a 6L6 based power section, the distortion is almost entirely coming from the preamp. However, if you turn a 50 or 100 watt head down to bedroom levels, you are not sending enough signal to the power amp to drive it properly....not "drive" it into saturation, but a tube power amp that is seeing very little signal will sound thin and weak, with the very low and very high frequencies not there, and instead just a boxy, muffled kind of tone. You also have to consider your cabinet and the speaker(s) in it, if they are high power rated speakers, the cones will be stiffer and won't really move at extremely low volumes, and the cabinet itself won't resonate either. Don't get 10 times more amp than you need, it is a waste of money anyway. If low volume practice is what you need it for, get something 15 or 20 watts, and preferably with some kind of switchable output setting to knock the power down.
This amp is fantastic, got one last year and it just can not do any wrong! Favorite setting is 666+6. Treb, Bass, Mid and Presence all on six and adjust your gain and volume to what you want. SAVAGE!
I've loved every demo I've heard of this amp since it came out, but I ended up buying an Egnater Vengeance, and I really, really like it as well.. The cleans are the best I've ever heard in person, and the gain is super tight.
GigglingDickhead On Robs "through the hands of people" video at exactly 5 minutes you see the brunette giving a hug to Bea. Im guessing its the brunette.
I DONT THINK LEE WOULD OF BEEN TOO HAPPY TO SEE THE ELF LADY WITH THE LES PAUL DOING WHAT SHE WAS DOING, THAT LOOKS LIKE A 59 REISSUE OR SOME KIND OF OTHER CUSTOM SHOP LES PAUL THAT COSTS 7-8 GRAND
+mb215: I see you around many of the same guitar channels as I visit. :) You absolutely know your stuff and you always have great comments and great info to share! But! What is the deal with the eternal CAPS LOCK? Respectfully and being totally honest - it's truly annoying and seriously is quite horrible web-etiquette. I can't possibly be the only one to point this out to you, but perhaps I may be doing so in the most polite, sincere and well-intentioned manner.. cheers and see ya around!

Flash forward to 4/15/2015 and listening to this during a meal break from playing my new 60 watt Fender Hot Rod Deville III 410. In my opinion the Fender shreds better than the EVH 5150 50w head. One additional benefit my amp has is it is a combo with four 10" special speakers built in, no additional cost. It also has a very long reverb tank and the sound is outstanding. Lucky me! The fender actually costs less money as well and is basically a 3 channel amp. Technically it has a clean channel and then a drive channel and then a more drive channel. I don't care what you call it but it works as a 3 channel amp for me. Comes with a foot switch and a dust cover. It is extremely loud. I am unable to dime it. All the clean headroom, possibly more than 99% of the amps in the world and then all the distortion/fuzz/gain anyone could ever want. With it's built in Bias Pot and test point I can set the tube bias up from the factory settings of -60ma all the way up to over -90ma. I can do that if I want to get power tube distortion at a lower volume. But so far no need because it has a Master volume as well as three 12ax7 pre-amp tubes tied into a gain knob that goes up to 12. So I can get all the sustain and distortion I want at any volume I want, low or deafening. With the built in Pre amp out and Power amp in I can run as many similar amps together at one time as I wish. I may get another one because I am thinking of running a stereo rig. Possibly I can set one up for earlier power tube distortion breakup and have the other set up for cleans. I am also used to my old Marshall JCM 900 with a full stack of Marshall JCM 900 Lead 1960 A and B cabs. I like to have the rig tower over me. I am used to the sound of a 30 foot tall wave of a full stack running in overdrive, I surf the wave of sustain and distortion. It's addicting.
PeterDad60 Had a Blues Deville III for a while. Didn't care for it much. I've discovered I tend to lean toward the british sounds, more. I thought this sounded really good. I wonder though... Previous 5150 amps can't get any kind of decent clean sound. Currently have a JVM 410, which is great - a little too busy to set all the levels for gigs and really loud. I have been thinking about a 3 channel 50 watt head and I'm wondering if this is the one???
Best sounding amp on a video in a long long time. Most of the time the dirty channels sound really flat and compresed on these videos. But it really sounded great on this one.

It is the talent of these musicians that really make the sound incredible... you are not going to buy this and sound like them or Edward without Years of Practice. really good video... and music
I thought Dave was awesome, until I realise he was finger picking. He's now king of guitar.
He used a pick for the first part but then he tossed it.
I'm a Marshall guy but the EVH 5150 iii really is the best sounding amplifier on the market. It is fantastic!
+Patrick Giles I feel sorry for you

If I didn't already know these guys reviewed guitar equipment, I'd have thought it was some type of casting couch video.. Especially with the elves.
The brunette elf is super mega cute.
Which one? The guy on the left, or right?
Figures the store in the UK gets hot elves and meanwhile in America all the girls at our guitar shops are, well, there are none. Sad day.
not true, there's 2 chicks who work at my local gc. one has a boyfriend who could probably body slam a school bus. the other is gay
runeshark22
Oh my God that made me laugh my ass off for some reason.
There's gonna be the depressed girl with no rhythm plucking away.. admittedly a moderately rare sighting, could easily be confused with the gay girl
I saw a smokin hot chick buying a ts 808 and some other pedals the other week at guitar center.
@Smokeanaut the one on dope?
OMG WHEN YOUR BASS PLAYER STARTED SLAPPING ON THE GUITAR, I SWEAR MY JAW DROPPED o.o That is heavenly.
Holy fuck Daves picking
You dudes COMPLETELY overlooked the resonance knob in the back!
That awkward moment when your bassist is better guitar player than everyone in the room.
Bass is guitar for real men
Today is Nov 27 2019. I miss this version of Andertons/Chappers. Back then, they were more about having fun and fooling around. Now, it's much more sales/instructional orientated. Not a bad thing, but some of the goofy shit they used to do is legendary!
Hey thats my birthday
The Elve's are putting on a great show!!! They're hilarious, lol!!!
they were putting on show
rob, your playing and sheer passion for playing has inspired me to practice more and more every single day. you are my inspiration to play the guitar and i mean that from the bottom of my heart.
0:33 the sad thing is those chicks aren't wearing fake elf ears, they're just British.
Slime Shady
Yeah you're absolutely right! You'd easily be able to tell if they were American because they would:
1 - Be licking each other's tonsils
& 2 - Be cousins
Jake Dowen Licking each others tonsils? Rofl that was the dumbest thing I've read all day..
I'm British and I approve of this comment.
@@jake2355 people are a lot more likely to be cousins in the UK than in the melting pot known as America...
"that's how Santa keeps his elves in check" Lee, you fucking legend.....
Lee's face at 11:59 was similar to mine watching a bass player play better than I ever have and probably ever will... *sigh*
I love that no matter how good you are you still have that concentrating mouth movement.
I love all of Chappers videos, always extremely informative
But this one
They could have been talking about sports equipment for all I know, came for the elves, stayed for the elves
I love Lee's little looks to camera when Dave's playing.
The bassist is an awesome guitarist i'm impressed
My head and 2 x 12 arrive tomorrow. Watching this has got me stoked and you guys really play well. I can half-speed the youtube and cop licks here all day. Sweeeeeet :-) Rock On!!!!
Dave lol slap guitar kicks uber assenhousen! As does the lovely elves. Well done everyone!
Best Andertons video that has been done in a while, doesn't help that I've been gassing hard for one of these forever!
you guys should do this, this Cristmas with the evh lbx 15w lunchbox amp!
The coolest feature of this amp is the fact that it sounds very good at low volume. Versatility and look are amazing
"Ok bitches. Sit in the back and just look pretty"
Am I close? haha
haha
Right on
Enjoyed this review quite a lot, thank you ! My ears were wide open to the tones and my eyes couldn't stop looking at the entertaining elves in the background hahah
rule #2 does not apply to dave
HA!
damn right
LOL take that Glenn!
Dave isn't a bass player, he's a musician.
Good one dude but Nathan Leon is right only Bassist are cunts not musicians
That bass player is probably one of the best guitar player I've ever seen
Couldn't decide between the blonde or the brunette.
pepachet I want both at the same time!
+TheBlues Ine You're gonna have to go through Bea for the brunette
+MKRocker94 Bea has good taste in women, that's for sure :P
It was tough but I decided the blonde was hotter.
something about bass players man.
+DJ R2 underrated comment
I am getting a white top and cab in two days! THE best 50w head ever! The cab is sick too! Buy it! Buy it!
is there something in the water over there across the pond?! Holy cow! Love you guys!
Normally isn't water ;)
The sound effects on this show are perfection
Dave just shit on everyone in the room
Totally agree!
I almost feel bad
The dude is unreal...
Andres Castillo really? I thought his runs were rather sloppy. I think Rebae was a fucking beast, though.
sniggity Ok
Some of the best sounds I've ever heard in my entire life! :D
So basically all Dorje pass by to show their skills to the two beautyfulls elfs!! XD
Bea is the baby-faced assassin. He looks totally unassuming yet he kills it when he picks up a guitar.
Thumbs up for elf on the left, cuter than a basket full of puppies!
I actually like the blonde with tattoos- sexy- but I wouldn't say no to the brunette :)
I love my EVH 50 watt. I used to think back in the day that you needed 100 watts but 50 is plenty loud!! It's my first tube amp and can't believe I was only playing solid state shit before this. The feel and tone is just fantastic.
I like the brunet girl! S2 S2
I'm 17 and enjoying this to the max!
You may have been 17 when you made this comment but today you are damn near 30 😂

Sounds like for a lot of you posters this is your first Anderton's demo vid. This is how they are and I find it very humorous and entertaining.
Those are some hot guitar elves
+Bozo the Skeptic Crab I'm hoping for the blonde face down hehe
Crankster If you could only choose pussy or guitar, what one would it be?
guitar because women come and go.
I just purchased a new 50-watt version and I'm blown away. Incredible amp. Heu T no one gives a flying fuck
+Heu T he's also not using a pick I think he did quite well for that lol
but no inspiration at all when he plays. no matter how fast he went
Glad you dont have uninterested extras in the background anymore
can i have the blonde one please!!!! oah and the blonde amp too ;) ill take both home today!
Those beautiful elfs covering their ears are amazing really lol
Happy new year guys!! from Mexico

Hannah Elf!!! 😘😘😘😘😘😘💗💗💗💗💗💗
Such an Dirty hug of those pups. Great amp sound
Best part is when the girl behind the bass player looks down like she's gonna figure out how to play what he is.
one of the premium series. You can tell by the quilt maple top and the line undelining the logo on the headstock.
Please demo the 15 watt. I don't live alone.
I don't understand comments like this, can't you just turn the amp down so it isn't too loud?? You dont need low watts to get low volume

i barely watched the video, was too busy staring at the elf on the left :P
her name is Hannah Boulton in case you are wondering, She also has a youtube channel! :D
nice she's beautiful. ill check that out :P
Does she like guitars with boulton necks.... sorry
Schnitzel for fucks sake mate...

Watch out Chapo, the blonde is definitey after a bit! yippie
She was having him with her eyes lol rob's a married man now
+luiz otavio Pires but this video was 3 years ago
Thank you Rob for putting those elves in check!! Jeesh they are a handful
Those elves made me cringe so hard I folded into myself and created a blackhole. Awesome playing though
Wtf they were hot asf
He keeps his music and sexual urges completely separate!
Rob you should do a sound like eddie for 1000 pounds
that was some insane guitar playing from all three
Plot twist, the elves give Jeff Loomis a run for his money
Yo Rob, Bea and Dave, thats was F**KING AWESOME, thats was wicked, high five from Canada, awesome playing :D
7:14 Satch Boogie!
The intro is actually awesome as well.
Bring the elves back for future videos :P
Best sounding amp on a video in a long long time. Most of the time the dirty channels sound really flat and compresed on these videos. But it really sounded great on this one.
11:43
why the fuck is he a bass player
Cause bass is for badasses
I picked up the guitar first but am more of a bassist because of a certain Mr. Steve Harris! It doesn't get any cooler.
I've watched this a bunch of times & still have trouble concentrating on the amp, great vid & the elves rock \m/.
The bass player wins xD
My fave reviewers on RUclips! Chap and Cap! You guys are great, you always show the gear well, play fantastic AND give me a laugh! When I am able to visit England (long overdue! ) Anderton's is my first stop, Cheers!
Came for 5150, stayed for elves.
I saw a guy take his 50 watter, take it out of the head-box, and put the amp in a 19" space rack with his effects. It looked KILLER!
Lol I'm thinking the girls in England don't get a lot of sunshine.
No one in England gets any sunshine
James Ellis This is true
Im english and when vampires see me they burn
I hate scooped mids sounds usually, but that one was so beastly for riffing. Stellar.
God I love those girls :D

I've been waiting for this review all year
haha Captains face at 5:54 is the classic British " Yes, i like the sounds which i am hearing!" great vid as ever guys! :-) Happy Christmas Guys!

ALso, Bea's Tone . . . . i have to buy this now!!!

Damn. These amps sound fantastic. I think I am sold.
I watched this twice in a row. SO. MUCH. WANT.
the bass player doin' the demo was the best.
My 5150 III 50 watt head just arrived today, ordered it from Musicians Friend with a special 20% coupon and the total cost of the amp was $799 US Dollars :-) Sweet!
The dude shredded without a pick! That was impressive
Arguably the best amp ever made for the money.
The EVH 5150s are some very sweet sounding amps.
That's the most epic owl tat I've ever seen.
Holy cow! I'm getting some 'Blackouts" what an amazing sound!
Big Dude can tear that thang slap up. Sounds good.
It is the talent of these musicians that really make the sound incredible... you are not going to buy this and sound like them or Edward without Years of Practice. really good video... and music
