Jacob, I am also 30 years old and from the cornfields of Ohio. It is actually my Kentucky/Appalachian ancestry that drew me into Animism and witchcraft, because they have always connected deeply to the land, and were also at its mercy so to speak. To this day, my family does those traditional practices for protection from storms, to have a successful harvest from our gardens each year, for prosperity in the new year, and so much else. The connection to the mountains and rivers is as you described too. Does this resonate with you as well?
Awesome video, thank you for this reminder to get outside and talk to the mountains!

Will you ever do a video in England and cover Anglo-Saxon heathenry? Would like to hear your thoughts on it as it is often overlooked in favour of Norse. Personally, I think the Anglo-Saxon Woden, through my workings with him, for example, is much darker, bloodthirsty and less refined than the later Odin, and the Anglo-Saxon wæcyres being like “corpse-stealing witches” rather than the Norse beautiful Amazonian depiction of the valkyrie - is so interesting! I would love to see you explore this!
I also wish we had more Anglo-Saxon heathens. Theoretically, we should, because Anglo-Saxon ancestry is far more prevalent around the world than Scandinavian ancestry.

In New Zealand there is a concept that I can only recall as "aroha te whenua" which is love of the land. Its your sharing of spiritual connection to your area or land your frequent and when people introduce themselves formerly in the Maōri way, they speak on the land they hail from AND the land they love/connect to. I wasn't born in NZ but I am recognised as part of the land because of my connection to it. I wonder if this concept exists elsewhere 🤔

For me, when I speak to the Landvaettir, I am talking to ALL the spirits of the land...the spirits of the earth, plants, rocks, animals, etc, AND the hidden people...the Gods, the Elves, the Fae, etc. All the Spirits, regardless of who they are, are tied to the land. Since opening myself up to these entitles, I have no choice but to hear and feel them. You are right! People have closed themselves off from these Spirits, and humanity has lost something in the process. But...in the places where people still commune with the Spirits of the Land, you can feel the collective energy flowing through everything and that is really special! I wish I was with you experiencing these things along side you! Thank you for this important talk, and for sharing the beauty of that place with us! ❤

I think polytheism vs. monotheism is a false dialectic. It seems much of the ancient polytheistic religions were more montheistic than we give credit for and the ancient monotheistic religions were more polytheistic than we give credit for. To me, this has been a great achievement of the perennialist philosophers. They understood these traditions in a more nuanced and dynamic way, which revealed the hidden unity between these kinds of religions.

Thank you for speaking so courteously of our different religions! Respecting your position, I wish to share my own perspective.
When I saw the title of this video, I thought, "Why does it have to be either monotheism or animism? I am a Christian animist, as was St. Francis of Assissi, St. Joan of Arc, St. Hildegard of Bingen, and Jesus Christ Himself." After all, Jesus spoke to wind and water as beings, not mindless forces. Nor is this a New Testament thing. The old testament is full of things like invoking the land to give witness on one's behalf when there were no people around to do so, or a prophet told by God to deliver messages to mountains.
We lost this connection with nature because the earliest converts to Christianity were mainly the urban poor and enslaved, forcibly cut off from nature, while the last hold-outs of Paganism were the Pagani, the country people who only saw their oppressors during holidays when the latter were on their best behavior ; they therefore didn't feel the same pressing need for validation. This caused an artificial connection between Animism and Paganism, when in fact Animism can fit compatibly in any religion. I believe in one Creator, but why shouldn't I talk with, interact with, and respect my fellow Creatures, human or not?
My opinions about Genesis are Animism-based. Eating the fruit of our own knowledge, I believe, referred to the transition from the paradisical paleolithic lifestyle to the neolithic lifestyle that increased death, disease, literally bone-crushing labor, hierarchy and misery, when we fancied ourselves as gods of little plots of land where we controlled what lived or died, where we invented possessiveness and all the crimes that go with it, and when we came to fear nature as the realm that we didn't control. Forbidden fruit could also refer to rotten fruit, and the invention of alcoholic beverages. By the lure of bread and alcohol humanity became trapped. (The seduction of Enki in the saga of Gilgamesh also seems to reference this.)
I see Jesus as the Totality manifesting as a human being. In His last supper, after washing everyone's feet and thus refuting hierarchy and lust for power, He took the very things that first led us to fall--bread and wine--and owned them: this, too, is Jesus. This doesn't have to separate us from the Totality.

I really enjoyed that you brought up equality, though there was a back step with humility, and that's ok, I do agree with the equality though. From the perspective of non-pagans, this is a hard concept for people to understand. Power hierarchies have been long associated with humans and mythology and for me, the break from that concept of this has power, or this has influenced, to a more broad perspective of cyclic balance, definitely reinvigorated my own sense of spirituality. Really enjoy the vids, best of luck to your journey :)

I think you're right. We've gotten so used to the 9-5 grind of "Achievements and Moar and The Grind and Exaustion" that we don't know how to do anything but that. Jacob says here and other places that we're supposed to revere nature and be still and listen to it. My grandmother, a Christian, often said that God wanted me to "Be Still and Know"
I think in some ways, they're both saying the same thing. God, Norse, Celtic, Helenistic, animist, whatever... Just... Be still and know... and just listen and let yourself just BE. You'll find a lot more in that I think than most people want you to.

Indigenous America/ns understand that you are equal to all other life forms. You may still need to feel small as the process of decolonization from Christianity carries on, but it is very important - as you continue to teach here - to clarify that "feeling small" as you are expounding it does NOT equate to Christian guilt. (If monotheists WOULD begin to feel guilt about harming the ecology of the planet, then maybe they could use their cosmology to stop harming...) Feeling small in the presence of the environment is feeling and living in balance and harmony with Earth Mother. You have your spiritual instructions from Creator just as the sparrow, black bear, oak tree and brook do. Your souls are equal even as spiritual instructions are specific to varying life forms. You recognize these differences - these 'spiritual animations' in the real world - and honor them, work with them, worship them in the forms and presences of the Spiritual Beings all around us.

I've always described being a monotheist as being selectively atheist. The most devoted muslim is a complete atheist when it comes to buddhism. You get the picture? Polytheism is the only one that makes sense. For everything there is in nature, there is a god behind that. One simply cannot live in denial about spiritual experiences and communities. Since the dawn of human history humans have worshipped more than one god. Even the monotheists can't deny that there are other religions with other gods to worship. It's just a fact of reality. In this modern world of overstimulation, social media, "adult content" processed foods, lack of culture, and crappy music, it's very important to get outside and remember your roots. The Roman pagan god Lucifer told me in a tarot reading the only voice that matters is your own inner guidance. We must make more of an effort to get outside, find peace of mind, and talk to the gods. ☺️

As he draws from the sheath
    Dwelling in his plate underneath
All that remains is beserker rage and fury
Blood stained eyes, leaving his sight blurry
    Charging into a wretched battle
    Slaughtering his opponents like cattle
Duel wielding blades forged from hell
Strengthened by the souls of those who've fell
Swift as lightening striking with great powers
Bloody martyred soldiers resting amongst the flowers
Gravebound by doubt no time to cower
Enraged by the archers tickling him from the tower
Nothing able to divert his path
Showering in pools of blood increases his wrath
Multitudes of souls are unable to fuel his hunger
Scent of battle sending them down under
Millions of fools falling victim to this warmonger
Arms as heavy as ten anchors, causing them to plunder
Blades ripping through chain mail as loud as thunder
Storms on the horizon skies blood red
Blades becoming arrows as they pierce into his enemies head
A true marksman with an aim to kill
Pillaging the weak, hunger never being filled.

Jacob. First: I love your YT channel. Thank you! But, Second: I think your understanding the "problem" with a monotheism/istic view of nature (aka "the Creation") is more of an understanding of Western Christianity's misconstrual of the Biblical portrait of God and Creation. Yes, Western Christianity, unfortunately, seemed to follow the leads of Francis Bacon (his works "An Advertisement Touching a Holy War" and "Novum Organum II" et al) and John Locke ("Two Treatises on Civil Government, II.V" et al) in concocting the notion of "Human Exceptionalism." This is the basis of an a-historical and somewhat anachronistic (mis)appropriation of Genesis 1:28. The combination of Baconian "Science" and Lockian Individualism plus the "Spirit of Capitalism" (Industrialized Capitalism at that!) crept into the "Christian" white, straight, male, colonial, and power-full inappropriate appropriations of the Bible. "Colonialism" and "Manifest Destiny" come to mind here as well. While Human Exceptionalism is sadly still alive and well among many Christians, it is dead or dying among many other Christians. I suggest you have a look at texts in the Bible such as Psalms 104 and 148, Proverbs 8:22-31, and Job 38-41. But start first with Genesis 2:4-3:24, aka the "Second Creation Narrative" which is about 400 years older than Genesis 1:1-2:3 (the "first creation narrative" which is actually not a narrative, but a liturgy/poem). Genesis 2:4-3:24 clearly portrays a thoroughly integral creation. Hosea 4:1-3 portrays Creation (nature!) as a self-determining subject reacting to the covenant infidelity of humans. Finally, Pope Francis' encyclical "Laudato Si," and its follow-up "Laudate Deum," have on offer a bold exercise in re-imagining humans' relationship to the natural world that is so critical for our time, our age - the Anthropocene. Finally, I think that Christianity has a whole lot to learn from the Polytheisms (read Job!), Animisms, and Paganism about better ways to relate to nature (Creation!). Many Christians still believe that the Creation - the sky and earth, flora and fauna - does indeed speak if we only have ears to hear and see...Brother Sun, Sister Moon, and Mother Earth (all three titles coined by St. Francis of Assisi!). The biblical view of Creation/Nature is certainly more complex and mysterious than anyone, especially me!, can fully grasp.

We can respect and love Nature without having to make it aware of us. Everything is aware of us in Nature anyway. We are the arrogant ones who think everything centres on us. It is up to us to learn our place in Nature , and that is not at the top of a hierarchy or even a place of our own devising. We need to be reabsorbed in the landscape of Nature to truly feel connected, but we never need to reconnect with something we are always part of. The world already is an animated being.

Actually, everyone has a seventh sense or an instinct for the spiritual. And once he makes himself known, he will realize what he has been deceived. There are good reasons why churches are away from nature and pre-Christian things are slandered. Because often a simple walk or contact with the stories of your ancestors is enough and no pastor in the world can prevent you from leaving.

Everything else, even if you want to call them gods, were created by the One and subsequently formed into their form.

Ananda Coomaraswamy states that Devas and Asuras in the Vedic lore are similar to Angels-Theoi-Gods and Titans of Greek mythology, both are powerful but have different orientations and inclinations, the Devas representing the powers of Light and the Asuras representing the powers of Darkness in Hindu mythology.[61][62] According to Coomaraswamy's interpretation of Devas and Asuras, both these natures exist in each human being, the tyrant and the angel is within each being, the best and the worst within each person struggles before choices and one's nature, and the Hindu formulation of Devas and Asuras is an eternal dance between these within each person.[63][64]
The Devas and Asuras, Angels and Titans, powers of Light and powers of Darkness in Rigveda, although distinct and opposite in operation, are in essence consubstantial, their distinction being a matter not of essence but of orientation, revolution, or transformation. In this case, the Titan is potentially an Angel, the Angel still by nature a Titan; the Darkness in actu is Light, the Light in potentia Darkness; whence the designations Asura and Deva may be applied to one and the same Person according to the mode of operation, as in Rigveda 1.163.3, "Trita art thou (Agni) by interior operation".

@@KerolosAmgad1Each to their own. If you believe in nothing spiritual, then that perfectly legit. However, what exactly do you see as 'truth'?

The world needs more Jesus. He is the one who sacrificed himself for us, he is the one who cares for us, we need him and only him

If he "came back to life" he didn't sacrifice anything, the world needs more deities to be believe in, do we need Jesus or does your pastor or priest needs your prayer for that new jet or car or new boat? Trust the gods and goddesses

      Jesus is overrated

No, we don't. Abrahamism is just the ultimate ponzi scheme, and has heavily "borrowed (appropriated)" from older spiritual beliefs and older pantheons. Humanity is not the slaves of some "king" or other autocrat.
