I remember sitting on my bedroom floor and listening to this album for the first time. Dazed and Confused is the last song on side one and when it finished I just sat there quietly for a couple of minutes and let it sink in. My mind was completely blown.
The middle part when JP is playing his guitar with a violin bow and RP is singing back is known as call and response and I'm really happy that you caught JPJ and JB in the background at the same time also doing a call and response together. Not many notice this 👍 I'm not bothered about the pausing, you're reaction is what's important, so thank you for another great reaction.
The instrumental sections (middle of the song) are giving a double "call and response" technique, Bass vs Drums and Guitar vs Vocals, it all syncs up and carries you up to and thru the tempo changes.
U wanna be blown away at jimmy page on guitar watch dazed and confused live 1973 Madison Square garden newyork this studio version is a small appetite waite till ur jaws drops watching jimmy page using chelo bow on his 🎸 guitar he's been doing that since the yard bird days this live version is 28 minutes it's from the movie song remains the same made in 73 but wasn't released until 1976 in theatre's it was bad ass then
Jimmy was 23 or 24...he was born in 1944 i think. Oh and Jimmy produced all their albums too! And JPJ did alot of arranging especially in the later albums!

This song was originally by American singer/songwriter Jake Holmes. Jimmy would rework it to record and perform it when he was in The Yardbirds, then rework it again for Zep. As others have mentioned, he uses a violin bow on his guitar with an occasional wah pedal to get those otherworldly sounds. Jimmy wasn't the first to do it (Eddie Phillips of the British group the Creation was one of the first rock guitarists to use a bow in their 1966 song "Making Time"), but it has become synonymous with his name. While still a session musician, it was suggested to Jimmy to try it by David McCallum Sr., who was a violinist for one of London's orchestras and father of actor David McCallum, who was one of the stars from the US tv show "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." from the 60s. If you notice, not only is there a "call and response" between the guitar and vocals, there's also one between the bass and drums. This song would become Jimmy's showpiece in concert and, through improvisation, could easily last as long as a half hour. For me, Zep's music is for moods, situations, emotions, etc., so there will be a variety of tempos, intensities, etc. between songs and often within the same song.
John Bonham is the greatest drummer ever, Jimmy Page the greatest guitarist by a country mile, JPJ greatest bassist and Robert Plant greatest vocalist. They are and always will be the ultimate rock band. Their catalogue is vast and mostly iconic. Even the lesser songs are better than anything other bands produced.
@@stuBdoc So did I, but that's why I asked; if it was more your perception of your own experience or if one of them actually stated that... I've never heard any of them say anything about that. Maybe the way to put it is that " when you were on hallucinogens, the slow parts FELT like they were written specifically for that." Not to put words in your mouth or anything, but enough bands endured enough false rumours about the intentions of their music without adding to it. Btw, A LOT of people "lived it."
Oh, it SPEEDS UP!...and how!

I Agree Wholeheartedly! **LedZeppelinLUVForeverInfinity&Beyond**
Each a master musician...each the greatest at his craft and together the greatest band in history!!
Mick, you should listen to the next two tracks as one song, since You're Time Is Gonna Come fades out and bleeds into Black Mountain Side.
That "slow part" was for the benefit of the hallucinogen users in the listening audience, as was a lot of what was recorded at the time.
where did you hear that?
@@lahaza6515 I didn't hear it, I LIVED it.
