"I'm going after Penny right now - I give Penny flowers every time I get a chance. Haley kinda sucks and I don't want her to like me so I give her soggy newspaper that I fish out of the river." - Dan 'The Player' Ryckert, 2016
+Jonald944 I don't know about sprinklers... I like the golden bucket more in harvest moon, and the golden sickle... those magical tools just feel very satisfying.
I love how much Dan seems to genuinely enjoy playing video games. He just sounds like he's having a really good time when he's talking about a game he liked.

Sure it similar to Harvest Moon, but what they do with the IP, the fuck it up, do weird stuff with it. So this game bring back what people love about Harvest Moon and some, so no fault in that.
According to Steam, I sunk 14 hours into this game over the weekend. Incredibly addicting and it has that Civilization "just one more turn" thing going that makes you forget everything else. Also a great game to play while doing something else like listening to a podcast. Also, Penny best girl.
Man it's hard for me to get into older style games but this one is great. I didn't even wait for it to go on sale it's that good, I'm very happy with it.
+jesse j 3DS is even better because of stylus and two screens.stylus is necessary with a small screen for such detailed games.Vita lacks that.so 3DS is a much better platform for this type of game.
Yeah Marnie SEEMS nice until it's the MIDDLE OF WINTER AND YOU'VE RUN OUT OF HAY AND MARNIE I NEED TO FEED MY ANIMALS YOUR SIGN SAYS YOU'RE OPEN WHY ARE YOU DOING AEROBICS AT PIERRE'S I NEED TO BUY HAY FOR MY STARVING ANIMALS
+dennis werth I don't know why but your comment reminds me of some click-bait I've seen. "He clicked and held while watering and the result was amazing..."
Moreover it wasn't even a farming game, it was an energy based spam inducer. So the taint is purely superficial. In hindsight bringing it up was a bad idea. :)
I skipped this quick look and then saw dan play this on unprofessional fridays. I gotta say this made want to try the latest harvest moon, story of seasons, and rune factory games. Its never too late to step into a video game genre out of my comfort zone. I did try animal crossing many years ago but it was too simple and the real world clock made it frustrating to play for me. Hopefully this game can keep me occupied for a while.
As someone who has played this game quite a lot, I only just realized now how little we know at the beginning of the game. I don't blame Dan, but there were so many incorrect points made in this video and so many missed opportunities that I realize we just don't know about in the start of the game. Nevertheless, it was infuriating to watch - thanks Dan ;) I'll just throw some of these things out there: You can go one day without watering the crops, this delays the growth by the same amount. Always dig up worms. By the end of the game you will hate yourself for not having done it. RPing in SV is fine, but you will be missing out on cooking recipes if you don't become friends with all the grown-ups. All characters in SV become lovable after spending enough time with them - don't judge too early :) Don't get coops or barns early in the game - wait till you have established a good crop rotation for all seasons.
Ok seriously though. I've heard it compared to Harvest Moon a lot, but I'm looking at Nintendo's 3ds lineup and there's like 14 harvest moon games. Do you know which one is most similar to Stardew? I'd really like to pick it up.
Daniel Pendzich I only played the one on SNES a long time ago, so sorry, but I can't be of any help there. I agree with Jake Hugenroth, though. Go and try RF and tell us how you like it later. ;)
I really, really want to like this game but i'm pretty sure at some point i'm gonna have to hug a calf to make it grow.I want a realistic farming game. You know what happens when you hug a real baby calf?the mother kills you.
No, fuck this. I can't waste my gaming time on this. And if I buy it. I know I will. :P I got 200 steam games to get through, this game surely won't help me at all.

If I had found this quote without context I would have no problem believing this is about Dan's real life.
+Writing on Games go out more..
"Fade out, Drew! Look at all these melons! Oh, hops..!"
I like how when Dan lists qualities about Penny it's just "lives in a trailer."
Dan, you have the best standards.
I will never be able to predict what games Dan will and won't like.
+cavemancolton I mean, he was obsessed with Animal Crossing 3DS and I think the past ones
+cavemancolton SV is totally the underground indie hit of 2016.
+mattmitchell45 I thought that was because Dan Ryckert is a furry.
'there's farming in Harvest Moon, but can you go and watch your TV'
Yes Dan, yes you can
+Jonald944 can you fish?
+Feyrude yes.
Jay Pedramgaz and thats a good money maker in the beginning.
+Jonald944 I don't know about sprinklers... I like the golden bucket more in harvest moon, and the golden sickle... those magical tools just feel very satisfying.
Dan frantically trying to describe Stardew and Jeff being way into it makes this a tremendous quick look
"FADE OUT, DREW! OH LOOK AT THESE MELONS. HOPS!" */slowly fading away as he's goin' crazy over his produce/* fucking loved that ending hahaha
Dan's joy for this game is delightful.
I really appreciate New Dan and his self realization of his ignorance and trying to overcome it, it's making him infinitely more likable.
I love how much Dan seems to genuinely enjoy playing video games. He just sounds like he's having a really good time when he's talking about a game he liked.
This isn't a game, it's a drug.
+Kao Eclipse And drug is for retarded people.
+Robert S yah I know I see high retards all the time, drinking their boozes and coffee
Doesn't really seem like my kind of thing but it looks incredibly well made.
7:05 8:16 So out of four people met so far, Dan hates one because they're too mean and another because they're too nice. And the only one he tolerates is his girlfriend's mother and the guy who looks like Mario. The line between game and reality is blurring. On the plus side, JEFF DOES IMPRESSIONS.
9:50 Dan and Jeff discuss fishing
11:59 The fabled Penny of Bombcast lore
13:11 Meet Abigail. She does not like seaweed.
15:48 Dan gets serious
16:21 Jeff makes a compelling argument for soulless corporations
19:10 Meet Maru, another recipient of Dan's "gifts."
24:12 Potluck day!
28:12 The Potluck Luau and new friends
30:16 Words of wisdom from Linus
30:52 I feel like Clint gets me more than anybody I've ever met.
43:57 Dan is apparently shitting his pants
44:30 ish First Wrestling reference
45:50 A miner's treat
That ending was perfect. Every day I thank the heavens for Dan Ryckert.
I love how into this game Dan is. Hahaha. Fantastic. Been having a bunch of fun with this since it came out. A definite "recommend".
Great QL, you really captured some of what makes this game special!
Sure it similar to Harvest Moon, but what they do with the IP, the fuck it up, do weird stuff with it. So this game bring back what people love about Harvest Moon and some, so no fault in that.
"It must be satisfying..." oh god I choked on how he portrayed his voice :D
According to Steam, I sunk 14 hours into this game over the weekend. Incredibly addicting and it has that Civilization "just one more turn" thing going that makes you forget everything else. Also a great game to play while doing something else like listening to a podcast.
Also, Penny best girl.
Gotta love that folder labeled "Crap" on your desktop.
This game is exactly like Harvest Moon and I love it.
Also, Leah is not married.
+Super Velociraptor Your mother is not married too.
+Robert S true
***** everyone loves salad
extremely similar to harvest moon, but it looks like everything has much more depth to it. may check it out sometime.
Man it's hard for me to get into older style games but this one is great. I didn't even wait for it to go on sale it's that good, I'm very happy with it.
did Dan chug 6 red bulls before this quick look?
Dan doesn't seem to like many people in this town!
The more I play StarDew the more impressed I become with it. Not many games provide that feeling. Impressive.
And Dan has been playing non-stop ever since...
This is the most photo realistic game ever made
+Dee Kay Someone told me he uses real time global illumination to make the game so realistic.
"That's one of the main things I'm working towards right now is to upgrade to a chicken"
I've played this game for over 200 hours at this point. Trying to reach the end endgame
Dan should stream this
You can go to hot baths all the way up North and it will restore your energy for the whole day. It stays open after Summer starts.
This would be amazing on Vita!
+jesse j 3DS is even better because of stylus and two screens.stylus is necessary with a small screen for such detailed games.Vita lacks that.so 3DS is a much better platform for this type of game.
nalorcs lol you killed me
It's pretty great on the Switch.
Yeah Marnie SEEMS nice until it's the MIDDLE OF WINTER AND YOU'VE RUN OUT OF HAY AND MARNIE I NEED TO FEED MY ANIMALS YOUR SIGN SAYS YOU'RE OPEN WHY ARE YOU DOING AEROBICS AT PIERRE'S I NEED TO BUY HAY FOR MY STARVING ANIMALS
also, the hay is crazy overpriced to begin with
Don't you dare badmouth Sebastian he is my beautiful male wife.
As a big fan of Friends of Mineral Town. This game nails it as mimicking a Harvest Moon game!
+Leinad44 agreed! a lot of the buildings and characters even look like they'd fit right in with the original SNES game
This is the Dan I love.
Amazing game, especially since playing on the Switch.
1:35 upgrade to a chicken 😂
click and hold when watering. you will be amazed...
+dennis werth I don't know why but your comment reminds me of some click-bait I've seen.
"He clicked and held while watering and the result was amazing..."
huh. never seen :)
+dennis werth He actually does it at 25:34, but says he prefers using gamepad.
+ryoo818 ...so you hold down the button on the gamepad.
if you guys are curious about harvest moon the GBA ones are very good and the ps1 one is the best to this date.
Seems like a pretty nice version of the Harvest Moon genre... but MAN, so busy busy! I might get a peptic ulcer playing this.
don't worry , is the same as harvest moon , only the monster slaying is the boom shell .
"Most Ryckerts have been farmers or grocery workers" calls chicken coop a "co-op"
+Porthosthe14th That's actually how I read it initially too. But he corrects himself the second time he says it, so he's not completely ignorant :p
This is a western Rune Factory with some Animal Crossing in it, 100% what I want. I can't wait to get this game :)
Dan, Danus, Daniel. You, NEED to play Harvest Moon dude... you'd love it.
Wow, this is pretty much a new Harvest Moon game. Will purchase.
A farmville that is actually a good game? That's splendid. And here i thought Zynga had salted that earth for centuries...
Moreover it wasn't even a farming game, it was an energy based spam inducer. So the taint is purely superficial. In hindsight bringing it up was a bad idea. :)

What this reminds me of the most is Rune Factory: Frontier.

Wasn't the only one going for Penny, good to know.
yes you can watch tv in harvest moon
Joja For LIFE!!!
literally rune factory/harvest moon except not anime. Dan would probably like rf/hm.
"I wanna upgrade to a chicken" xD
shoulda given abigail the sea urchin ya dip
I'm loving Stardew, but is there a portable game that's similar to this? I'd like something just like this that I could take on the road with me.
Maybe you want to look up Harvest Moon and Rune Factory.
Ok seriously though. I've heard it compared to Harvest Moon a lot, but I'm looking at Nintendo's 3ds lineup and there's like 14 harvest moon games. Do you know which one is most similar to Stardew? I'd really like to pick it up.
+Daniel Pendzich I'd look at Rune Factory 4, it has the combat elements like this does. It's still a Harvest Moon game at it's core though.
Daniel Pendzich I only played the one on SNES a long time ago, so sorry, but I can't be of any help there. I agree with Jake Hugenroth, though. Go and try RF and tell us how you like it later. ;)
+Jake Hugenroth Thanks, I ordered RF4 on amazon today. Can't wait to get it!
No God why did I watch this I have stuff to do.
LOL. I need this game.
Wish I had a PC :(
the fishing game reminds me of breath of fire's
Kukijiro omg yes! BoF 3!
looks like HarvestMoon!! ;)
I'm trying to upgrade to a chicken?
This needs to be on PS4
Looks cool, but yeah it's just Harvest Moon.
I really, really want to like this game but i'm pretty sure at some point i'm gonna have to hug a calf to make it grow.I want a realistic farming game. You know what happens when you hug a real baby calf?the mother kills you.
+tomahawk5646 actually irl if the mother animal trusts you and is familiar with you, you can hug the calf or any domesticated animal.
+Reverend Maillet-Crutcher True, but it's safer to just leave them alone.
runescape meets gameboy color
You've convinced me to buy this game, now convince me to stop playing
It's kind of strange that people are losing their minds over a clone of an ancient console game.
It's more than just a clone since it adds different features like dungeon crawling.
Bought this game and quit watching 5 minutes in. Sorry guys, gotta go play now...
No, fuck this. I can't waste my gaming time on this. And if I buy it. I know I will. :P
I got 200 steam games to get through, this game surely won't help me at all.
TOMATOES?!
Dan is
This looks like the more boring game I've ever seen. I don't get it...
I really dont like this guy's personality. The "side" comentator is chill, the first one is just annoying
