I’m in the UK and planning a BBQ with cocktails. The first time I tried this event the cocktails were ok.... I purchased all the cocktail “gear” but did very little research. I had the wrong glasses, nothing was really cold and the range I was offering was very limited. I kind of figured that cocktails were to complicated and required lots of exotic ingredients. Ive started watching your channel and you explain everything really well. I love the format you use. I’m going to expand and try some of the drinks from your channel. I don’t think they will be as good as yours but I’m going to give it a go. Hey! If you want more mint flavors, you can use granulated demerara sugar (instead of the latter syrup) and then stir your mint exactly like you did in the video, this will extract much mint oils thanks to the abrasiveness of the sugar, and without muddling the leaves to pieces, leaving the leaves pretty looking and the drink free of leaf residues, thanks to La Bodeguita del Medio in La Havana for the tip, cheers!
Just started mixing recently and I loved this one! Did not get the same layer effect as nicely as you did though. Might be as my glass is a bit wider? Instead of three clear layers, I had two. However, I am glad I chucked my ice in a blender first cause I think that makes a difference and the taste was pretty good.
As soon as I read Port of Spain in the description my mystery was solved. It was driving me nuts whether it had to do with the NY borough which includes Jamaica or the Rangers of the EPL, I knew neither sounded right.

You make a beautiful QP Swizzle. It's a lovely, tasty drink. I enjoy drinks that feature mint. To punch up the mint flavor I have turned to using simple syrup infused with mint. I just take a cooled simple (or rich simple) and combine mint leaves in a mason jar for 4 days (before leaves brown). I find I get more intense mint flavor into drinks with a mint syrup than muddled mint. When you want the mint flavor to pop, do you have any tricks of the trade you can share? For the QP Swizzle I use a mint syrup plus mint leaves because I like the colored layers of the drink - just like you achieved.
I love it! A fresh mint syrup is so tasty. In the past, I've added a splash of a good white crème de menthe to bring up the mint flavor, but your syrup would be a perfect match. Appreciate the comment - cheers!
@@AndersErickson Thank you for the helpful suggestion. One last question if I can impose on you. I like your use of El Dorado but I have always turned to ED 8 - purely for cost purposes. Am I losing much in the QP Swizzle by using 8 vs 12? I have always applied the "don't use a sipper rum" in mixed drinks because you lose the nuanced flavors found in higher priced sippers rule-of-thumb. Where do you fall on the "mixer" vs "sipper" rum debate (since the same can be said about Appleton 12 vs 8). Thanks, in advance, for sharing your expertise.
@@als.2983 I find the 8yr to be a bit drier than the 12yr, but don't think you're losing much in the swizzle. As for the "mixer" vs "sipper" argument, I think you should mix with whatever makes you happy. Of course the cost will be something to keep in mind if you're making multiple drinks. In most cases, I'll mix with the more affordable options, but I don't believe you're breaking any rules by mixing with a nicer spirit - especially if it's your bottle!
