Ryan, you brought the biggest smile to my face (pure joy) with you working so hard on pronouncing “acoustic” haha :) I appreciate everything you do for us, and I hope you’re staying safe, healthy and happy during all this!!
It shows, brother! The 76A has been next on my list, so these videos are killing me right meow; I need to be responsible and wait til this pandemic passes before any new purchases. Buuuuttt I’m going to pickup a couple more of your courses once I get on my laptop later on. So selfless of you to keep them at $5 this long.🖖🏽
Ryan, I bought my 76-A because of Charlie (c’mon, who’s more awesome than Charlie!) but I get the full benefit from it because of this tutorial. This particular 1176 from AudioScape is soooo versatile and there’s so much it does well. It was too much to wrap my head around at first and I struggled to use it effectively. Your lesson kind of broke through for me. Great teaching. You blend the practical with the academic in a cool way. AudioScape stuff is amazing out of the box, but I’ve taken it to another universe with the basic explanations you’ve given here. Great teaching, man, and thank you!
I really love your channel and in-depth explanation about different subjects. i am Ray (Floatwithme) a Dutch composer. Keep up that amazing work in all you do. Nothing more then respect. Please stay safe. Cheers Ray !
Thanks, Ryan! That's one of the best, most real-world description of using an 1176 style compressor (and the thinking behind it) I've ever heard and has definitely inspired me to explore and experiment with my own units.
Thank you for your demo, compressors are such intuitive tools. The way you talked about ratios reminded me a lot of playing roulette or something. You gotta play your hand right if you’re putting it in the signal chain!
Pure genius! I've been using my UA 1176 hardware for 2 years. I didn't know about the knees and different attack and release times at higher ratios. I used to just set mine to 4:1. Now I will experiment with the other ratios during recording.
Thank You. Also found a difference in speed with different knee settings. Hard knee starts and let goes instantly, while soft knee - gradually. Maybe that's the reason.
@@creativesoundlab I would love a CSL review on their Pultec! I’ve got one and I bet I’d triple my effectiveness with it with your style of in-depth tips.
So engaging two ratio buttons at the same time adds the ratio? I would think intuitively that it would find the halfway point between the two. Like if 12 and 20 were engaged it would create a 16:1 ratio. But its 32:1? That seems extreme but i don't have the unit so Im legitimately asking
Hey so when using real analog compressors and you have one compressor using it on multiple tracks, how does a person do a guitar and then do vocals and go back and forth? Do you have to basically cement a track and leave it in stone in order to move on with other tracks to use the gear? Otherwise you’d have to keep redialing in the settings every time you’re tryna use the compressor on different tracks? I know w a plugin you just load it on any track but with actual gear how would I mix multiple tracks and go between them with one compressor and essentially save the sound without making it permanently set like that? I appreciate any help thanks

This is AMAZING Ryan!! Thank you SO MUCH man! ;-)
Dude. This is like a 10min 1176 masterclass. I had no idea the ratios also changed the knee. Thank you. I’m going to try and snag 2 of the 76Ds

Haha thanks man! I actually have gotten better in a real way.

Your videos are very high quality.. Keep up the great work! Your channel should be more known than it is!!

Thanks Al, I really tried to go deep with this one!
Thank you for going so deep into the difference in attack/release times at the different ratios. Have never heard this before!

Also it’s so cool that you did a demo of this without any audio, just demoing how you use the effect and walking us through it. You are genius!

Great deep dive on often misunderstood bits of compression. I hear the same in 76 style compressors.
Came for a gear review. Got a MASTERCLASS in 76 style compression.
Wow what a great video man thank you

I like the IN-8’s! I have them (as well as CLA-10’s as my secondary pair). They’re great for the price.
Can you do an in depth review of the eqp?
This was better than the manual.
thanks! can you please do a review on their Pultec ?
Yes totally!

Whats the best setting while recording vocal
You used to use Warm Audio gear. Gave up on them?
This is great!
AcOOstic guitar :)
Did you get rid of your WA gear and if so can you say why? Love your tutorials. Cheers
Sweet!!!
