It's probably because I have so little experience Smithing ( 3 yrs ) that I thought there's no way the pipe wouldn't crimp. Not only was I dead wrong, it turned out perfect. I have watched all of your videos Gary, many multiple times, shame on me for doubting you. 😊🔥🔨
Nice video! Your work is very inspiring. If made these with copper pipe/tubing, the top of the bull rush would be a nice brown/coppery color with some heat marks and would likely form a nice patina over time.
Awsome idea! I know from my own experience that trial by error sometime is the most efficient way to learn and i think noboy know everything about blacksmithing (or TIG welding...), unless they are lying, but the newer ending learning and experience process is a big part of what draws me to it i think.
They're really nice mate, love your vids. commentary makes me laugh sometimes, you don't give a fuck how other people do stuff, your way is the way you know and that's the way to be
I have never forged one of these but in conversation with other smiths I was told to forge the tube cold to squeeze the ends smaller, less crimping they say.
@@garyhuston Yeah these guys all have power hammers. Can you make one that looks like a bullrush split open and going to seed? Just joking. Nice work, I enjoy your vids.
You like the cold saw? The first shop I worked at had one, but they were a bit unsure about getting it going again... Torbjörn Åhman probably would had forged the whole thing from solid round bar...
Good video and and clever way to make them. Pedantic bit now... they are often - wrongly - called 'bullrush', in fact the correct name for them (in the UK anyway) is the Great Reedmace. The lesser known but properly named bulrush (Scirpus Lacustris) is less impressive and iconic...
over the years ive picked much more from your tutorials than any of the others on utube . but when you go off camera you dont show the heats, the heat times what to look for i. e. color changes your feel for how long to heat a particular thickness of iron .am i being a bit thick or not ?? maybe ive missed it.
Wow Gary you are sure full of yourself considering that your work isn't anything to write home about! My loss??? You are the loser... You lost me as a viewer and you lost my respect!Demonetize u-tube!!! NO MORE U-TUBE COMMERCIALS!!!!!
Lol! Why my loss? I don’t need twats like you anywhere near my channel! What do you think you bring with your presence? I really don’t need or want your respect, respect of a turd means nothing to me🤣🤣🤣
Amazing navigational hazards. Yard and garden spears. Bravo. Thank you for sharing.

Nice work. Really liked your tool you was using. Keep up the good work.
Those are nice Gary! You should do some more of these type sculptures...

Love you videos and thank you got the ideas and inspiration
Been a long time follower. These are fantastic and I’m definitely going to try.
Fabulous mate

In the US, they’re referred to as Cat Tails or Cat-of-nine-Tails.
I don't think anyone will read this but here goes. Cattails are in a swamp and a cat-of-nine-tails cut strips out of your back.
I have never forged one of these but in conversation with other smiths I was told to forge the

2drsdan it would have to be pretty thin tube or you would need a power hammer! No way am I forging even this stuff cold with my shoulders!

Those would look good on a trellis

YOU MEAN MY CUTTING DISK!!!!
If you do bolt that saw down be careful, your muscle memory might be off. Great design for the "cattails".
10:34 STEAM!!! :-D why don't you listen? I'm sitting here shouting "steam" at you and you simply keep ignoring me ;-)
Another very clever ornament.
Lol, I was doing the same thing, steam! Well, water vapor? Surely he means steam? Maybe he’s talking about something else...?
OK, 12 mins later & I still have no idea what they are... looks fun to build...
