This video here is what Real Painter’s NEED to know!! Not even halfway through this video and you’ve given more useful information than I’ve seen any other RUclips channel give. If anything matters then everything matters and you have made that point here. This is the video all painters need to watch…diy guy’s, rookies and seasoned guy’s as well even if only to refresh. This is GOLD
i’ve had to back down to L01-L02, some L03 on almost every 46V i’ve sprayed with the Onyx line. L00 just makes the ground coat way too dark and ends up making most of the colors to be way too dark by the time you apply the right amount of candy.
Hey Kandy Man, superb video with lots of good content along with tips and tricks to help us with these 3 stage candy colours. I think it's outrageous how Mazda cut corners just to save some money by giving the customer an inferior product skipping the candy stage in the door jams is bad enough but to cut the amount of clear on the car must effect the UV protection for the vehicle🤔 My Kapci scheme is the same as your Glasurit in that it uses a clear basecoat binder then uses 2 transparent red tinters to mimic the candy, I've only done the 46V twice but both times it came out looking really nice👌👊 Thanks as always for sharing your knowledge for us🙏👍John UK
Kandy man, I learn alot from you as a painter I'm always chasing perfection and knowledge from you 💯. Thank you and have a great Thanksgiving day! from Maryland.
Great video, keep em coming! I'm currently spraying the glasurit 90 line in Australia. Not sure if its already been mentioned but if you search 46v on your system, there is an interior option. The 90 line option is usually spot on, i'd bet the 100line option is the same! Hope this helps! Cheers ✌️
As a person who notices that stuff, I couldn't buy a car with jambs that didn't match the body. That reminds me of being in my teens and early 20's trying to save a few bucks on a custom paint job by not doing the jambs. Although it is what we did to be cool as young adults with limited funds, we're not talking about fixing a $500 beater on a student's salary, this is a new vehicle! Unacceptable in my book. I respect you for making the car match OEM for an invisible repair - even when you have the skill to do better which is why I love your work.
I never really notice that until you showed that.but I use alot of solvent.l Next look into a Sata vacuum it removes dirt and flys. But I did a custom job with RR code put a HOK kandy then added a Basf Carrizma tea spoon violet pearl in the kandy flowed it what job when u know your product. Keep the good work up I have been watching u for years
If not mistaken mazda japan is using kansai paint from japan too. Its quite difficult to match the interior, as our paint line debeer they come out a custom formula for mazda 46v interior which has the orange look to it.
Wait until you try tesla PR01 YOU WILL BE IMPRESS!!!!!!!!!! is only 2 stage base clear.. they only thing you should do is double all the tonersor cut in half the mixing base and the reducer and you will get a perfect color match that you could go panel to panel
can you do a test panel like a old fender not too damaged and primer it and base and clear the way you clear jobs what 2 coat or 1 1/2 coats. we would like to see how well the gloss holds out down the road and store on the corner and show is to us monthly like 6 months to see if it die back down the road ? with out buffing it out
Standox also uses a candy in the clearcoat but they recently came out with a additive that you add to the basecoat and spray extremely light coats that achieves a bit more of a chrome look and also lightens the flop. It’s definitely better. But none of the manufacturers have anything that truly looks like the factory color. The color is close but the appearance is different. Not as chromy looking
In the RM Diamont line we have a chromatic mixing clear that it uses for the intermediary coat with a red dye for these candy colors. Looking at old color formulas, many of the candy reds used a clear base and regular base coat toner. The mixing clear definitely provides a true candy appearance whereas the clear base and toner tint coat is not as vibrant. It's not a normal, catalyzed clearcoat, can be mixed with a basecoat hardener, and it flashes and dries to the touch. repair areas and blend areas get full clearcoat followed by partial clear to the edges. It seems to hold up well but the sun isn't as angry all the way up here in Washington. one thing I do like about the raw jambs is that it makes tinting the base coat easy.. takes away all the guessing.
Very informative and in depth video, as always. I am curious though, even though this isn’t related to this video, to hear your thoughts on the issues in the paint on 2015 to 2020 GM suvs. There paint seems to fade incredibly fast, and in a horrible way. Your knowledge on the topic, and my assumption that you have most likely painted one of these vehicles in your shop, makes me wonder if there is something different in the base or the clear that you have noticed that may cause this? Thank you. Love the videos.
I wish you are in CA so I can bring my 95 Civic to you for a full respray. I am disappointed that Mazda is not painting the jams. It looks like it was repaired poorly.
Hey hey Kandy Man. Beautiful job as always! I think it’s pathetic what the manufacturers are doing to cheap out the finish on these vehicles. The price just keeps going up. I know I’ve said this to you before. I love 46V. Awesome color. Take care brother. Enjoy your thanksgiving and holiday season.
Hey Candy man, happy Thanksgiving. I see you didn’t put the wet bed on before the Midco is that what they recommend in the 100 line and where did you get those Luma black button up so I like those I like to get some for work
Kandyman, thoughts? If the candy is mixed with clear, is the can getting as much UV protection as it would if it’s mixed with the intercoat base with 2 full coats of clear over it? PPG would only have 1 coat over it, whereas Spies has you blend regular clear into the tinted clear, thus leaving the tinted clear with no regular clear over it. I hope you’re following me okay, it might be confusing what I’m saying. I remember at a HOK demo, Jon said he thinks you get better color holdout with traditional candy method, as compared to candy die in clear.
I was using ppg and put the candy in the clear and looked awesome. Switched to sherwin williams ultra 7000 and it's in the base and it never looks quite as good.
Hard pass on buying a car with different door jams to the exterior especially for the price you pay for them. I thought i was the only one that had unexpected drop ins into freshly sprayed clear 😂
what are you doing on the far edge of the blend panel, I'm having some issues on silvers and light metallics where the clear is darkening up the blend panel. No color at all and I'm stopping the first coat of clear before the edge/
Those jambs look like an automation fault going through the factory booth… wrong valve opened and it got regular clear instead of tinted clear.. is this the first time you’ve seen the regular clear on the jambs of that model Mazda?
I want to pay attention to the next one we get to see if maybe that one just missed a step in the factory and slid past QC. It looks really bad from the factory.
For repairing , I always try to copy the factory spec 👍 , if it were my own car , I'd have to match the jams to the exterior 😳 . Mazda also do a darker candy in 51f which I can't wait to have a go at spraying! . Mitsubishi do a very similar colour to mazda's 41v (p62) and byd (laq) fyi 👍👍
OEM paints are that thin now, you often have to use the correct primer colour (sometimes matched to OEM primer) to get a good match, and prime your colour card too for colour matching. I've never changed 46V or any pearl ground or pearl for that matter, only match by layering the 1, 2, or rarely 3 layers of pearl on 3 colour cards, then replicate the best one for the repair / new panel, and blends. It's just too complex in how changing a base or pearl can alter the end result. Pearls like 46V look so nice, but they are much more time and care required to refinish. Shocker how thin clearcoats are getting too, they must know the clearcoat is there to protect the basecoat from UV, skimping on clearcoat in the factory is why so many OEM paints are fading / breaking down far too prematurely.
I notice that stuff about the paint being different colors. That’d be a no go for me because every time I opened a door or whatever that’d be sticking out like a sore thumb. Couldn’t do it. I gotta say bro, you are a master at your craft. After that orange base I was kinda pissed that it didn’t match better. But, you told us that it was gonna do it. That looks awesome.
I noticed that you used wetbed on the blend panels for the groundcoat. But not for the midcoat. Is the wetbed not necessary on the blend panels for the midcoat?Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Great repair. I love how you make it oem ❤
Thanks 👍

Beautiful as usual you are really talented. I love the amount of knowledge and skill you bring to each vehicle.
Thank you very much!
Those bugs only land in something you want to turn out really nice, lol!
Exactly

Masterclass of paint education right here😮🎉
Appreciate the background and history in your presentation. Enjoyed the video. Happy Thanksgiving to you, your co-workers and family.🦃
Happy holidays!

what he said ^^^^^^^^^^^
Thanks again
Awesome Job! Bringing it back! 👌👊 happy Thanksgiving!!
In BASLAC 46v the "candy" is just straight red basecoat mixed in clear basecoat, but in Glasurit 90 Line you put 3-4 stuff in "candy"
I never really notice that until you showed that.but I use alot of solvent.l Next look into a Sata vacuum it removes dirt and flys. Not enough clear from the factory
You should make a video of all your different blending techniques. What you do in different areas and situations. I think that would be interesting.
Noted!
I wish you are in CA so I can bring my 95 Civic to you for a full respray. I am disappointed that Mazda is not painting the jams. It looks like it was repaired poorly.
How do you always leave a glass finish? Absolutely gorgeous!
I totally agree!
How many ounces per hour do you mix for base and clear?
Dang the 460 lays down flat job well done tell the body man they did a good job too happy thanksgiving from my family to yours
Thank you and Likewise
They call it savings, I call it cutting corners.
Hey Candy man, happy Thanksgiving. I see you didn’t put the wet bed on before the Midco is that what they recommend in the 100 line and where did you get those Luma black button up so I like those I like to get some for work
Happy Thanksgiving. They sent me the shirt .not sure they sell them .

@Ontheroadbrogymgo i believe that it has more uv in the clear because base does not have any uv properties. But the best to me is UK house of Kolors
I was using ppg and put the candy in the clear and looked awesome. Switched to sherwin williams ultra 7000 and it's in the base and it never looks quite as good.
When i sprayed Sherwin is was in the clear
@kandyman5315 maybe in the water base line but in ultra 7000 it's in the base for some reason. It never comes out as nice as if it were in the clear
Hard pass on buying a car with different door jams to the exterior especially for the price you pay for them. I thought i was the only one that had unexpected drop ins into freshly sprayed clear 😂
Question, do you bake your base coat to accelerate the process or you just let it air dry
I do give it some heat
a true professional here
Appreciate the support
Very hard color amigo 😅nice job!!! Hey we’re could I find the song you are using for this video?
what are you doing on the far edge of the blend panel, I'm having some issues on silvers and light metallics where the clear is darkening up the blend panel. No color at all and I'm stopping the first coat of clear before the edge/
Haven't seen that problem
awesome
Awesome job! Another UDB (un-detectable blend)
Thanks again!
Best Painting
Appreciate the support
Do you guys get 3 stage or 4 stage time for these jobs from the insurance companies? Do they pay the same as a pearl white or more?
👍
I see that with a few of the pearl white paint jobs , the jambs don't have any pearl or its a totally different color.
Yeah, jambs are pure white
Where are you located
Tampa fl
Nippon is what is used at factory
Can I ask you how many hours you got pay for that type of job???
Those jambs look like an automation fault going through the factory booth… wrong valve opened and it got regular clear instead of tinted clear.. is this the first time you’ve seen the regular clear on the jambs of that model Mazda?
Looks like mazda realized how much they were spending on candy...
I want to pay attention to the next one we get to see if maybe that one just missed a step in the factory and slid past QC. It looks really bad from the factory.
Sounds good
Happy thanksgiving!
Same to you!

Right on
Follow what is on the car, repair an old brick wall you find old bricks to match.

Do you see a big difference with that pigmat on the floor?
Yes i love the floor coating

Another cool video. You are a true professional. But man, I said this before, and I'll say it again: FIT AND FINISH ON NEW CARS IS PATHETIC!!!
