Things will almost certainly get worse before they get better. Many of these disasters are caused or made worse by climate change and that's not something you can just reverse overnight. (never mind the fact that we're still heavily contributing)
I grew up in Illinois. So many times the path of a tornado hop skips and jumps through a town or doesn’t go through a populated area and the path is usually pretty narrow that adults can get complacent thinking the odds of getting a direct hit from a tornado is unlikely. Almost everyone hears the sirens, has a weather radio that goes off saying the tornado is on the ground and to seek shelter, and has warnings and alerts sent via text message to their phones. Most in Illinois have basements or storm shelters where they can seek refuge. This is one of those tornados that was unusually wide, powerful and happened at night. Most tornados are not this destructive, which I think adds to the complacency. There were weather reports warning of the chance of severe weather for a day before this tornado hit, but again, the likelihood of being hit directly by one just doesn’t seem real, and therefore many times the warnings are just not taken as seriously as maybe they should be. Even if you took shelter in this tornado, the winds were so bad that I am sure many who took a direct hit didn’t stand a chance.
@@ic4192 Yes, thank you for mentioning this. At the time I wrote the initial reply I hadn’t heard this. An EF3 has winds from 136-165 miles per hour with rotation. I heard the height of this storm reached 35,000 feet which is an extremely big tornado as far as height and the width was approximately 3/4 of a mile if I’m not mistaken. Not nearly what Joplin, Mo saw….but powerful none the less.
I believe they rarely have tornados there and didn't have major protocols or any shelters, just get into the closet or bathtub. Nobody mentioned any work protocols.
Some. Some have shelters. Some you run across the street and jump in the 6-foot ditch and hope it isn't full of water. Tornado will skip right over it. Some will tell you to go under your desk or under a stairwell that are typically stronger parts of the building. Some, though, tell you to put your head between your legs and kiss it goodbye.

Radar can see rotation, but can't confirm it's on the ground unless it senses debris in the air. The severity, track, speed, direction can all change. Tornadoes are fairly typical, but the severity of this outbreak makes it unique. If you have winds in excess of 200 mph (320 km/h) even the most secure places can become vulnerable. Cost prohibits the average person from investing shelters. This also struck at night. By the time you hear it (over the rain and thunder) you often have only few moments to secure yourself.
In the part of tornado alley I live in people do not have shelters in their homes. The last time I experienced a significant storm a few years ago we just hid in the bathtub since that’s all we had
Alotta places in tornado don't have basements so a storm cellar is probably the best bet.if you're not below ground during a EF3 or higher than the chances of survival are little to none.this was probably a EF5 easily

Wish someone would’ve done this before/after comparison for Newnan, GA when we got hit by an EF4 earlier this year. People still have no idea how bad it was!
@@rikkipowers3921 Thanks. The news camera weren’t even allowed into the worst areas due to police barricades but I was at ground zero (Woodrow Place was where it reached EF4). Left me homeless. This place will never be the same!

It went through another months-long process of appeals and was declined again. Warnock and Ossoff drove by me with my arm in a sling and a dumb look on my face as I wondered who was important enough to bring a motorcade through our neighborhood. Meanwhile, Biden himself was in KY the very next day for the only other EF4 tornado of the year. While that one was hundreds of miles long and undoubtedly worse, overall, they were both long-track EF4s and the difference didn’t mean much to the people who were at the worst part, like me. It crushed my car and left me injured and homeless, despite the NWS claiming 0 injuries and 1 death. I reported my injury every way I could and even contacted my representative because I knew they missed many more if they missed mine. There is no good explanation other than a concerted effort to downplay it. Who knows? Getting the true numbers might’ve changed Biden’s mind. Instead, we were left wondering how he could have even seriously considered declaring it since he was going around saying things like “they don’t call ‘em ‘tornadoes’ anymore.” He probably meant Derechos (straight-line winds) but you still have to wonder who was actually fielding the request.

There’s an enormous water shortage and ecological collapse all over the planet. The great migration is upon us, millions are fleeing their homes to escape war, political corruptions, gangs, water shortage and food insecurity. I research news for work and all I see is climate driving changes. Climate change, HAARping, or Earth just doing it’s “thang” we need to stay together and find ways to create communities. Only by creating safe communities we will able to survive. Super heroes or god don’t exist, just evil greedy people who won’t share money with the world and help the planet out. That’s why we have to be the change, we must educate our younger generations to take care of each other and re build this planet without the evil seed of corruption we call human greed
In states that have ever had a tornado period, all of your fire stations should be underground. That's devastating to have a disaster that fire fighters would normally assist with on a scale like this, and imagine hearing that the police and fire stations were obliterated! I hope all newly built homes are equipped with a basement. It shouldn't be expensive since they will be starting from scratch, save the plumbing in most cases.
Climate change basically accelerates these incidents from years to months, in Canada we are suppose to have steady winters but you have cases where one week it's freezing cold and snowing a lot, the next week it's super warm and all the snow melted, then you have a extremely windy day where winds can nearly push you over, and it snows at night for an hour before it gives up. Be glad the industrial industry got better decades ago or acid rain (or snow?) would become common again. Oh yeah, Ontario used to rarely get small tornados in the Northern side of the province but it became somewhat more common lately. Too many shifting climates of warm and cold air mixing which can cause storms.

@@W_T_D The last time I experienced a -40 Celsius winter was in my 7th grade middle school, the worse we could get nowadays is around -30. The entire freaking grass field turned into a 2 inch thick ice rink and the students were told not to go on the ice... It was so cold I literally just outright decided to stay indoors even though the teachers wants us all to go outdoors for recess, so I basically hid between the double doors between the outside and the inside and wait out the recess. I don't remember exactly how long ago when I was in 7th grade but clearly more than 15 years ago. To be fair, the bus ride to said temporary school (due to overpopulated elementary school and a lack of middle schools in my area) took like 15 minutes to 20 minutes to get there, so it's probably to the north. Nowadays summer in Ontario can get as hot as 35 degrees Celsius, and rarely 40 for heatwaves. Winters can be as cold as -25 and rarely -30. My worry isn't just climate change, but society is changing of itself, becoming more lax, more greedy, more arrogant, self-centered, and self-destructive.

Climate change causes a variety of extreme weather conditions, including warmer temperatures that last longer throughout the year (this 'warmer temperatures' comment is referring to a global average. Depending on where you live climate change can led to colder conditions, increased rain, drought, etc... as well). This weather shift and global warmer temperature average has led to weather conditions that favor stronger tornadoes that last longer. Since warm temperatures fuel tornadoes, when tornadoes do occur (various energy inputs can cause them to form. for example, tornadoes most are commonly formed through energy released during a thunderstorm) they can now on average last longer and create more damage because warm temperatures provide energy to a tornado that will allow it to last longer, become stronger, and subsequently create more damage,
I recall the big tornado that hit Woodstock Ontario in the 1970's. Tore roofs off houses and demolished barns and silos. For years afterwards you could see debri caught up in the trees. One fellow where I worked was watching from his bedroom window when suddenly the roof of his house lifted off and disappeared. He was ok. Huge tornadoes have always been around. There were TV shows where people would chase them and film them. This is nothing new but the climate change people want you to think it is and it seems to be working.

That’s because they likely cleared roads already to begin evacuation. There would not be much debris on the fields, because there isn’t much to turn into debris in an open field.
I've lived through 2 tornadoes. One of the first things every able bodied person who's available does is clean debris from roads. Notice I said who's available because triage of wounded and search and rescue comes absolutely first.

Things will almost certainly get worse before they get better. Many of these disasters are caused or made worse by climate change and that's not something you can just reverse overnight. (never mind the fact that we're still heavily contributing)

Wow that's intense, I hope everyone is found an those who lost family I send sincere condolences to and pray for all.
I grew up in Illinois. So many times the path of a tornado hop skips and jumps through a town or doesn’t go through a populated area and the path is usually pretty narrow that adults can get complacent thinking the odds of getting a direct hit from a tornado is unlikely.
Almost everyone hears the sirens, has a weather radio that goes off saying the tornado is on the ground and to seek shelter, and has warnings and alerts sent via text message to their phones. Most in Illinois have basements or storm shelters where they can seek refuge.
This is one of those tornados that was unusually wide, powerful and happened at night. Most tornados are not this destructive, which I think adds to the complacency. There were weather reports warning of the chance of severe weather for a day before this tornado hit, but again, the likelihood of being hit directly by one just doesn’t seem real, and therefore many times the warnings are just not taken as seriously as maybe they should be.
Even if you took shelter in this tornado, the winds were so bad that I am sure many who took a direct hit didn’t stand a chance.
The winds were EF-3 level, if I’m not mistaken, correct?
@@ic4192 Yes, thank you for mentioning this. At the time I wrote the initial reply I hadn’t heard this. An EF3 has winds from 136-165 miles per hour with rotation. I heard the height of this storm reached 35,000 feet which is an extremely big tornado as far as height and the width was approximately 3/4 of a mile if I’m not mistaken. Not nearly what Joplin, Mo saw….but powerful none the less.

Im curious, what precautions do they usually take if there is a tornado warning? Are there under ground shelters?
I believe they rarely have tornados there and didn't have major protocols or any shelters, just get into the closet or bathtub. Nobody mentioned any work protocols.
Some. Some have shelters. Some you run across the street and jump in the 6-foot ditch and hope it isn't full of water. Tornado will skip right over it. Some will tell you to go under your desk or under a stairwell that are typically stronger parts of the building. Some, though, tell you to put your head between your legs and kiss it goodbye.
Good question. The warnings sounded (for most places) 30 minutes in advance, but they signify the conditions unless someone spots the tornado. Radar can see rotation, but can't confirm it's on the ground unless it senses debris in the air. The severity, track, speed, direction can all change. Tornadoes are fairly typical, but the severity of this outbreak makes it unique. If you have winds in excess of 200 mph (320 km/h) even the most secure places can become vulnerable. Cost prohibits the average person from investing shelters. This also struck at night. By the time you hear it (over the rain and thunder) you often have only few moments to secure yourself.
In the part of tornado alley I live in people do not have shelters in their homes. The last time I experienced a significant storm a few years ago we just hid in the bathtub since that’s all we had
Alotta places in tornado don't have basements so a storm cellar is probably the best bet.if you're not below ground during a EF3 or higher than the chances of survival are little to none.this was probably a EF5 easily

It went through another months-long process of appeals and was declined again. Warnock and Ossoff drove by me with my arm in a sling and a dumb look on my face as I wondered who was important enough to bring a motorcade through our neighborhood. Meanwhile, Biden himself was in KY the very next day for the only other EF4 tornado of the year. While that one was hundreds of miles long and undoubtedly worse, overall, they were both long-track EF4s and the difference didn’t mean much to the people who were at the worst part, like me.
It crushed my car and left me injured and homeless, despite the NWS claiming 0 injuries and 1 death. I reported my injury every way I could and even contacted my representative because I knew they missed many more if they missed mine. There is no good explanation other than a concerted effort to downplay it. Who knows? Getting the true numbers might’ve changed Biden’s mind. Instead, we were left wondering how he could have even seriously considered declaring it since he was going around saying things like “they don’t call ‘em ‘tornadoes’ anymore.” He probably meant Derechos (straight-line winds) but you still have to wonder who was actually fielding the request.

Climate change, HAARping, or Earth just doing it’s “thang” we need to stay together and find ways to create communities. Only by creating safe communities we will able to survive. That’s why we have to be the change, we must educate our younger generations to take care of each other and re build this planet without the evil seed of corruption we call human greed
In states that have ever had a tornado period, all of your fire stations should be underground. That's devastating to have a disaster that fire fighters would normally assist with on a scale like this, and imagine hearing that the police and fire stations were obliterated! I hope all newly built homes are equipped with a basement. It shouldn't be expensive since they will be starting from scratch, save the plumbing in most cases.
Some places building things underground in damn near impossible. Either because the land is too soft or practically stone.
Climate change basically accelerates these incidents from years to months, in Canada we are suppose to have steady winters but you have cases where one week it's freezing cold and snowing a lot, the next week it's super warm and all the snow melted, then you have a extremely windy day where winds can nearly push you over, and it snows at night for an hour before it gives up.
Be glad the industrial industry got better decades ago or acid rain (or snow?) would become common again.
Oh yeah, Ontario used to rarely get small tornados in the Northern side of the province but it became somewhat more common lately.

@@W_T_D The last time I experienced a -40 Celsius winter was in my 7th grade middle school, the worse we could get nowadays is around -30. The entire freaking grass field turned into a 2 inch thick ice rink and the students were told not to go on the ice... It was so cold I literally just outright decided to stay indoors even though the teachers wants us all to go outdoors for recess, so I basically hid between the double doors between the outside and the inside and wait out the recess.
I don't remember exactly how long ago when I was in 7th grade but clearly more than 15 years ago.
To be fair, the bus ride to said temporary school (due to overpopulated elementary school and a lack of middle schools in my area) took like 15 minutes to 20 minutes to get there, so it's probably to the north.
Nowadays summer in Ontario can get as hot as 35 degrees Celsius, and rarely 40 for heatwaves.
Winters can be as cold as -25 and rarely -30.
My worry isn't just climate change, but society is changing of itself, becoming more lax, more greedy, more arrogant, self-centered, and self-destructive.

I recall the big tornado that hit Woodstock Ontario in the 1970's. Tore roofs off houses and demolished barns and silos. For years afterwards you could see debri caught up in the trees. One fellow where I worked was watching from his bedroom window when suddenly the roof of his house lifted off and disappeared. He was ok. Huge tornadoes have always been around. There were TV shows where people would chase them and film them. This is nothing new but the climate change people want you to think it is and it seems to be working.
I detest the use of dramatic music in videos covering a current, real-life tragedy. This isn't a movie; we don't need our feelings artificially manipulated. The footage of actual loss and suffering suffices.

That’s because they likely cleared roads already to begin evacuation. There would not be much debris on the fields, because there isn’t much to turn into debris in an open field.
I've lived through 2 tornadoes. One of the first things every able bodied person who's available does is clean debris from roads. Notice I said who's available because triage of wounded and search and rescue comes absolutely first.
