Ralfy, I want to tell you something. I decided to stop drinking alcohol entirely five years ago, because I had demonstrated to myself that I cannot consume it responsibly and in moderation, so it in my best interest not to drink at all. However, I remained subscribed to your channel because I always respected you and admired your passion for everything that is great about whisky. Even though I unfortunately could not handle the effects of alcohol as a drug, I genuinely always did, and still do, appreciate the craft, and more importantly the rich history and culture associated with whisky. Your enthusiasm for everything that is good and worth celebrating about whisky is wonderful, as is your commitment to advocating for the responsible and respectful consumption of spirits. In fact, I might suggest that in some small way you encouraged me to stop wasting spirits that could be used to toast someone's good health on my own miserable pursuit of "getting pished".
As such, although I've remained subscribed, the truth is I have not actually watched your content for quite some time now. I'm sure you can understand why. However, the RUclips algorithm has fortuitously decided to let me know that you are on the cusp of your one thousandth Ralfy Review. Wow. I remember years ago, wondering when this day would come. I am delighted to see that it is here, and that you are here, Ralfy, still doing what you do. Congratulations, friend. And I wish you all the best health and all of life's joys.

Another excellent insight into the whisky journey! Full of real wisdom. My whisky journey started more than 10 years ago, and still learning. More or less, I've followed my intuition and personal taste but when I started to follow knowledgeable factors like you, it really enhanced the experience.

Ralfy I wanted to take a moment to thank you for always being honest but doing so kindly. I joined a whiskey group (a tribe if you will) on reddit and asked about Old Grand Dad bourbons versus the new Jack Daniels bonded rye since they're similar in price. The comments were why are you comparing different spirits (bourbon vs Tennessee whiskey) and if you have to ask, you don't know what you want.
Thank you for always being opened minded about all spirits. I appreciate your approach that quality is quality regardless of the type of spirit.
My mammy used to make a very large Christmas Pudding.
It contained 1 x full bottle of whiskey, usually Powers, 1 x full bottle of sherry and an alarming quantity of Guinness.
The finished product was a rough sphere of about 2 feet in diameter.
A thousand good times nearly here, and books to boot. Thanks Ralfy!

I appreciated that you added complexity at either side of the spectrum; sometimes I cant tell if its the whisky that's complex, or just my perception of it. Currently starting to explore rum, should be an interesting journey.
I been brewing some years. Imperials stouts.. sorry beer.. One big trouth i got on a dry fly on ilay. :-) 5 days in mouintains 2 days in port charlott. White hart hotell. Its all about serching. Im a viking whit a bad palette. So cask strengt. Thanks Ralfy.

I agree re a change, after to much sherry cask, peat after a review by whisky Wednesday Phil, I got a Fettercairn 16 and had a re-set.
Ralfy to much info at the end, remember I have weapons of mass destruction.

I had to laugh. My first "intentional" Scotch purchase was Ardbeg Uigedahl (sp?), which was like a punch in the head. (By intentional, I mean something I really wanted to taste, as opposed to, "hey, there's a party coming up, let me grab a bottle of Johnnie Walker").

I agree with what your saying. I've bought some more expensive whiskys that if I had more experience, I would have tasted more than my inexperienced palate could.
Hi Ralfy. I recently revisited your Glen Turret review (809 extras). I bought the 2022 release of Glen Turret 12 year old. Stated on the label Natural Colour, Non Chill Filtered, 46%abv. And it's a really good dram! Have you been down that road recently? If not - I do recommend it.
Yep, the pricing. Always goes up just before Christmas when they bring it back to it's old price to make it look like a good buy, but that is normal for me, you already know the good tastes, and ensure you try to always buy the right Whisky (Whiskey)
Ralfy, I hear you talk about sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and savory. But what about spicy? The sensation of black pepper or chili pepper heat which can come from the wood is something I’m seeing more with cask finish whiskies lately. And when over done it ends with too “spicy” a whisky for me because they’ve overlooked it in oak.

I will ask. How do we know that it is one in that one cask the whole time. I have been around the table with "whisky makers" who have said they change the cask all the time. Does it say on the label " been in the same cask" the whole time. If it doesn't, then who is to know?

As much as Ralfy loves Springbank, curious why he rarely mentions Longrow. Personally not a fan, but he rarely talks about it.

Even though I consider myself very experienced (13 years and many different malts), I sometimes get curious what the beginners are drinking. As long as you don't start with a great malt before sipping a cheap blended whisky, some are not that bad...until you go back to a great whisky with the previous one still on the tip of your tongue.
