You can do it legally, you get paid to do it, you get great benefits, they pay for your education and there's a good retirement plan. There's no good retirement plan for being in a gang-unless you consider death or prison a retirement plan. Obviously, a lot of the dudes in gangs wouldn't get into the military because there are also a lot of requirements that you have to meet in order to get in and it's definitely not for everyone and if people don't like being told what to do then it's definitely not for them but I do think that a lot of these young men who would rather be a killer and who are basically wasting their lives and throwing their lives away would be better off just giving the military a shot. People can say that you'd be fighting for the government and doing their dirty work and all that but I still think that it's infinitely better than being in a gang.

Takes less than that. Some dudes get jumped on and are ready to kill. I got jumped on in HS in Oak Park. A suburb next to the west side of Chicago (Iman Shumpert went to the same hs). And I didn't have to go to the hospital or anything like that. I didn't even fall on the ground. I had a busted lip and they split the back of my head open, but not that deep. But I was so mad and some fake friends at the time were involved, so it wasn't just "Okay were gonna go beat them up". I called my old gang member friends for real who got kicked outta school early (childhood friends, know their family, played daily as kids, but I actually stopped hanging around bc I wasn't on the same path as them). And my street n*gga friends were on some whole other stuff. Basically, saying "If that was me, I would kill them n*ggas. XYZ". And its not their fault, but I was gassed up bc they told me they had my back, if I wanted to get on that w/ them n*ggas. I was literally on the honor roll, accepted into a great school, riding around dangerous w/ dudes who dropped out, JUST for get back. Saw 1 of the niggas who jumped me a few times and chased him through traffic, he was running red lights and shit. He got away. A few weeks later. I ended up getting a UUW(Unlawful use of a weapon) and intent to deliver, bc I got pulled over by a detective who was investigating my street friends. Almost threw my life away. Parents got a great lawyer and I beat the case and my boy beat his case too (my lawyer picked apart the police process of investigating and arresting us). Moral of the story. In Chicago it is the culture of some young black men to take revenge to the extreme and if you wanna be in w/ the popular dudes, then you gotta have that in you. Not worth it. My street dudes had opps, who ended up trying to get me a few times for hanging w/ them. Then I was in some shit that summer that was crazy as hell and I survived some attacks too. If I just took that L then I wouldn't have almost got killed a few times, vice versa, and got arrested. Pride and culture of "get back" are like a curse to Chicago and many cities. And it is influenced, Made cool, by the rappers, but it's not their fault. The city is like that anyway. My boys were not any big clouted up gang or anything, just a clique of westside n*ggas who liked to smoke, fast money, tight/popular women "the baddies", being fly and being "tough". (I stopped hanging out w/ my street friends after going to college and I'm legit now)
