Homage to Eva Evdokimova (01DEC1948-03APR2009), one of the queens of Romantic ballet, my first ever Sylph and still the favourite one. (Albrecht: Vladimir Gelvan)
I just found this magical and superbly elegant dancer. I think she’s the best Giselle I’ve seen, in terms of capturing the essence of the character, specially in the second act. Her grace and musicality are unrivaled.
Beautiful, I had the chance to meet her in London 1976 and she was just incredible as a person and so humble and always quiet. Took classes with her and her feet were just gorgeous and saw her dancing with Festival Ballet too, just superb!!! So sad she's gone. She'll always be so beautiful........
Eva Evdokimova, Carla Fracci and Alicia Alonso, the greatest romantic ballerinas of the 20th Century. I found out a few months ago that Eva died very recently, We'll remember you forever, beautiful Eva.
What a beautiful dancer she was. And a beautiful woman as well. Her face at 4:15 (ca), gorgeous and full of emotion. And as has been said before, her arms are moving as if under water, the port de bras are endless. Makes ballet worth watching again to see dancers like this. Thanks for posting!
I've just read the news in the NY Times - Thank you so much for posting this, Annamicro. Have to agree with all these wonderflul comments; her beauty and strength, combined with seeminlgly effortless and impossible fluidity will forever take one's breath away - one of a kind perfection.
Exquisite--her Giselle was heartbreaking. I was blessed to get to dance with her (as a colleague, not partner); it was intense reacting to her mad scene--not much acting needed. She & Fracci are my top 2 Giselles by far. Eva was also a lovely, kind person, & great in many styles & roles, not just romantic (tho' her Sylph was sublime, again grouped w. Fracci in my mind). So very sad to hear she died. Vladimir, her Albrecht here, was wonderful! Great dancer & actor, subtle sense of humor. Thanks!
No doubt she was one of the rarest kind of magical dancers...watching her dancing we can imagine how the great Taglioni or may be Anna Pavlova were looking like in their romantic parts...
absolutely beautiful......silly almost to say what has already been said....this is a question not a complaint did she take that extra slow tempo wise ? I think it was made it so much more ethereal ....after this seems most people are rushing through it......extraordinary ......if only ONLY there were a complete recording of her giselle

The only Giselle who brings me to tears. Eva was truly a Prima Ballerina Assoluta.
This has to be one of the most beautiful interpretations of Giselle. Brava!

Artistry! Oh YES! Eva is ethereal, grace floating in spirit, in the music.. my heart hurts as she danced the love, pain, devotion. Sublime!
Wow! What artistry! The extension, the feet, the hands. The best Giselle I have seen.
Oh yes, this IS the best Giselle ever! I was just the child when I discovered her at the Varna-competition and I was completely lost. Sheer poetry!

So sensitive and beautiful.

glorious phrasing..... Really her own.
Impresionante!! Una belleza. La vi hace muchisimos años en el teatro cuando yo era pequeña, y siempre quise volver a verla.

truly amazing:) i hope i can be as good as her some day
Beautiful, and such wonderful musicality. She has such graceful arms, but more than that she her grace is executed uniquely. Not learned mannerism...
