    This is an absolute pro-tip, thanks for posting! My diesel tank isn't huge and I have some space under the floor so I was going to get a larger one although it'd be amazing to have a second tank with a polisher in the middle so I can pump from one tank to another to clean the fuel! I'll give Paul a call and pass on his details to my neighbours. Thanks! 🙏🏻

    • @canicebannon
      @canicebannon  Год назад +2

      Hi Beth, the big take from the experience was that the process of cleaning a tank is so much easier if the tank has an access hatch or man hole. In my case, having just the filler cap as access reduces the effectiveness of the job. If you do plan to get a new tank make sure there’s a nice big access hatch. 😀

    Fascinating, that’s quite a process and a smelly one I’d wager…I’m not mad keen on the smell of diesel any more as one of my teenage jobs was working on a refuelling barge for trawlers. That really wasn’t a very high price to pay for a good hot shower and some winter heat 👍

      Every diesel tank in a narrowboat is made of steel. But now plastic tanks are becoming more popular. I was surprised to see bits of rust coming out of the machine. It hadn’t occurred to me that you could rust out a tank.

    This reminds me of when we got the main chimney swept in the old house I grew up in just before we sold it. The firm had a machine like a giant Henry vacuum cleaner, about the size of a fuel barrel, we filled it up with soot. About 100 year's worth. Oops. We had been burning wood for a good few years but originally it would gave been coal too. If only mankind had never discovered fossil fuels.
