Excellent!!! The actor has delivered the SOLILOQUY with all his heart. These pathetic words of Shylock are indispensable to evaluate the Jewish merchants's character OBJECTIVELY........

Revenge was a legal custom back than, it was legal to get even with someone twice as bad. It was actually St. Anthony of Padua who said "usurers are thorns who prick us and make us bleed." Perhaps Shakespeare gives this line to the Jewish character to remind us of the Jewish Carpenter who shed his blood for humanity. Most actors make a sign to resemble Christ being nailed to the cross when they deliver that line.

I do like the Norn Iron angle, but you would have to fight Blindboy Boatclub and I don't fancy your chances.

    Shylock was not a villain.

This does not make Shylock more in fact it does the opposite. It's the evil villain speech that you are not supposed to fall for.

Weak performance. Fails to convey the truth of the situation.
