A powerful and uplifting interview on so many levels. That James was willing to put himself out there and challenge a false assertion that being HIV somehow impaired your ability to become a pilot. His willingness to disclose his status to the world in itself was a monumental decision. But what a difference that decision has made for his life as well as so many others that may follow in his footsteps. In any situation that you are told you can't do something because you have HIV.
The other point that really struck home for me was when you both were discussing being faced with the obligation of revealing our status to someone. How we agonize and paint ourselves the worst case scenario on how that discussion might go. Boy, did that strike a chord with me. It is difficult. But we make it so much worse than it need be. We have to reailze it's more a reflection on the other person then it is on who we are. It does make you aware of how much misinformation is still out there about HIV and the most basic facts of how it is contracted and what being positive truly means today. There's still so much work to be done to educate people, but James has taken a powerful stand . We desperately need more people with his fortitude.

You are so right Gary, thanks to people like James, we continue to change the way people see HIV, and that it should not stop you from going after your dreams. x
