The singing is astonishing; taking a relatively "undemanding" ragam and revealing its brilliance. Make no mistake, TMK has no peers and, as someone who has listened to his recordings for a few decades, I have witnessed his progression/evolution into genius. I could go on about why, but not here. And as someone who has always held (and still does) MDR, Semmangudi, Chembai, Musiri with their perfection as the benchmarks, but I am beginning to wonder if they were perfect only because they stayed in their comfort zone? What is thrilling about TMK is his willingness to push the boundary of what is possible, and hence courageous in taking on the risks which no other singer has dared (as far as I can tell). First Edition recordings deserve a big applause for their recordings. This music has thrived for centuries, not because of state subsidies or royal sponsorships but due to its richness, its inherent confidence which has ensured its evolution into one of the most powerful musical forms. However, Carnatic music pyramid, which is thriving not just in India but the world over, has an expansive base of mediocrity. Take note aspiring young vocalists - don't worry about memorising 400, or even 20 ragams, just do a few memorable ones.

An interesting analysis. However, those artists, especially MDR, created that comfort zone for themselves by pushing the boundary of what existed then. It is just that we have been fortunate to witness TMKs evolution (sometimes in 1080p!). I would give anything to be able to witness this similar evolution of Ramanathan or Chembai (the difference in his music from the 78 rpm records to the utter serenity in his later years).

Job Kurian, please accept our apologies for this unacceptable interruption to your viewing experience. We have always made it a strict policy not to allow advertisements in the middle of the performances for precisely this reason. So when we checked the videos after your comment, we too were shocked to find ads in the middle of the performance. We assure you that this change in the algorithm was made by RUclips without our knowledge. We have manually gone back to the videos and changed the system where only skippable ads are allowed and that too only before the videos begin. We will further check with the admin team at RUclips to find out how and why this change was made unbeknownst to us. Apologies once again.

The vilamba kalam is unbelievable, most others, even if capable, are unlikely to be able to settle this well at the pace Krishna has chosen. And as always, the mridagam is just what you need for a composition of this speed. No wonder Krishna uses so few others.

A raga that is soothing, like a lullaby that cradles one’s senses, is Neelambari. This is a raga that is associated with relaxation, peace, and slumber. A janya of Shankarabharanam, Neelambari has gamakas that flow seamlessly from one note to another, blending subtle notes, like a shading on a canvas, and finally it all merges into one phrase that make so much sense.

Indeed, Hindustani Nilambari and Carnatic Neelambari are entirely different ragas. The former belongs to the Kafi thaat and the latter is a janya of the 29ᵗʰ melakarta Dheerashankarabharanam (the scale of which corresponds to Bilawal thaat, although as ragas these two are also very different).

Recently I learned that the original South Indian music was developed by the Tamils but later was stolen by " Kalathiar ' who ruled the Tamils from Karnataka and that is how the name Karnatic Music came into use. Mr. T.M. Krishnan's vision of music is different from others in a way that it should not be restricted to only a few but reach out to whoever is interested. The very fact he still excels in his performance is strong evidence of his belief in whomever he worships.

@@prashasthneelakantan1307 your ignorance on history of carnatic music makes you say so. Carnatic music suddenly fell from heaven in the late 17th century. Before that what were people doing nothing but hitting the coconut shell according to your theory.

@@gangadaranshepherd2724 Seems like you need a history lesson in Carnatic music. It's a collection of folk tunes from the ENTIRE southern region, formalised by one Mr. Purandara Dasa who happens to be from Karnataka. Hence the name Karnatic/Carnatic. This Tamil first theory is spamming the internet for the last 10 years.
