@@04mach1speed Two 303's I have are slightly different too. Both are pressed in. The older one had no support for the board for when pressing the switch causing the board to be pushed to the side wall like in this guy's video. The second one they improved the design by inserting what appears to be a plastic shelf for the board to provide support when mashing on the switch. taterman320241 yeah that’s happened to me before, I know exactly what you’re talking about. I was always wondering why they didn’t do that to begin with. I bought one a couple years ago and when it came in the driver was actually completely broken off. I was thinking wtf! Good thing I know how to solder haha
ill admit, when i made this video i didnt know that much about electronics but now i know a little more and some lasers nowadays dont actually have a pot. Just be super careful because just a little tiny bit more than it was designed to handle will certainly blow it up. lol
Yea..my green laser pointer was similar but not the same..I ended up breaking mine trying to disassemble it to mod it. I was able to make it work again but its just not the same anymore. It no longer has a fine beam even when focused, it can no longer birn anything or scorch it. It's only good for the dog to chase now. Lucky for me I bought it used for $5.
Yeah that’s an occurrence on these cheap modules. I blew so many up by just slightly turning the Pot. I believe it’s mostly because manufacturers in China have a stockpile of drivers that are probably all around the same current (usually more than a 532 module can handle) and they solder the driver to the IR diode module and set it low and send it out. So 95% of the time the driver is a 500ma-1Amp so by turning it slightly it over drives the IR and can’t handle it. Good thing they’re cheap lol!!
@@04mach1speed Yea but mine just had a lens glued to it to make the green beam and focus it and I accidentally dropped it with the tip unscrewed off the end that had the adjustable focus and that lens popped off. I tried to glue it back but I never could get it in just the right spot.
I just opened up my JD 850 and there is no potentiometer inside these different manufacturers really shit me up the wall . Everything that comes to Australia is always the left over inaccurate shit.
Hi, so I ordered 2 of these off of ebay, they both had potentiometers, and I was able to increase the power. I ordered 2 more from the same seller, they looked identical-but no pots. In fact, I think they're using an LED driver as theres no chips or capacitors, just 2 4 ohm resistors and a current regulator.. I ordered 3 more from different sellers and NONE OF THEM had pots. did they update/cheapify the design? do you know a source of the classic design with the pot? thanks
Yeah that seems to be a huge problem with 532s now. I noticed that some of the ones I bought also didn’t have Pots. Honestly I don’t thing their is a way to tell anymore if they’re gonna have them. So my best solution I found now is to just buy 532nm modules without a host or pen. Just the bare module and driver attached. They’re usually pretty good quality on Laserlands.net and Techhood EBay. You can see the pics before you buy them and can usually tell if they have pots. Hope this helps :)
Why do the red laserpointers have a fixed current driver? I have one from aliexpress. I guess i'll order a green one to, they where only 4 euro's or something.

Madcr0ws sometimes they don’t, if that’s the case than you can usually bridge the resistors but that’s too risky if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing. I have never done that but I know it can be done
Mine didn,t have that potentimeter screw thing, so i pushed that little round black button in that little raised square box just once and it does seem to be alot stronger and brighter. I could be just imaging this too, but im pretty sure its brighter. Mark.
M Henhawke I think that’s just a switch for by passing. Too bad you don’t have a meter to test it. Those meters are expensive and the only one I have I’m afraid to use for fear of breaking it :(
@@04mach1speed I know this is an old post, but it's easy to test if the switch has been bypassed with a cheap ohmmeter. If you know the pinout of the switch, sometimes you can just look at the circuit board traces (connections) to whether or not the switch has been bypassed.

Jul¡ hey J :) yeah color definitely matters, violet would actually be the best because it’s got the highest energy density, lowest wavelength. So purple burns the best, but purple doesn’t really go much higher than 900-1000mw. If you want raw power then Blue is your best bet. As weird as it sounds red is actually the worst. I found this out by doing an experiment with two of my lasers a 500mw red and a 500mw blue and the blue one will burn lots of stuff very well including your finger. Lol but my red one at that power just would not burn my finger, wood, and cardboard. It’s wired to think about but yeah Blue is the best for higher power

Is there a correlation, equation, or chart that estimates output optical power as a function of input current from the battery? Measuring the current is very easy.
Or...there may a test point on the PCB at which one can measure a voltage that correlates to output optical power.

I have seen 3 slightly different laser 303 designs
Come to think of it so have I
@@04mach1speed Two 303's I have are slightly different too. Both are pressed in. The older one had no support for the board for when pressing the switch causing the board to be pushed to the side wall like in this guy's video. I bent the board back straight and switch now is where it spota be. The second one they improved the design by inserting what appears to be a plastic shelf for the board to provide support when mashing on the switch. I'm going to try to press then both out to see if there is a pot on there or an smd resistor that might could be modded.
taterman320241 yeah that’s happened to me before, I know exactly what you’re talking about. I was always wondering why they didn’t do that to begin with. I bought one a couple years ago and when it came in the driver was actually completely broken off. I was thinking wtf! Good thing I know how to solder haha
Some may be counterfeit "copycats". That's a big problem in the internet marketplace...especially with rechargeable Li-ion cells.
I was looking for this video. Thanks. This video will be güzide for my project thanks.
ill admit, when i made this video i didnt know that much about electronics but now i know a little more and some lasers nowadays dont actually have a pot. Just be super careful because just a little tiny bit more than it was designed to handle will certainly blow it up. lol
are you from turkish
Southern Catfishing I literally did the same thing years ago.
So if I have a similar driver/circuit board part but it DOES NOT have a potentiometer is it not moddable?

@@ItsJimdevera preferably nickel plated neodymium magnets. Note however, that some suppliers provide a REALLY thin nickel plating that can fail after a period of time or when mechanically stressed even a little bit.
I also use a nickel-plated neodymium magnet to adapt "flat" top cells to devices that normally require a "button" top cell. However, you do have to keep in mind that many flat-top cells do NOT PROVIDE THE SAFETY PROTECTIONS that are built-in to many button-top cells. I think I paid $58 for a 200mw module. but you have to be careful because it takes around 325mw or IR laser to generate 80mw of 532nm so @ 200mw of green its probably producing close to a Watt of IR so it generates a huge amount of heat

Ambrose Killpack yes that’s correct, I actually had forgotten lol
@Ambrose Killpack well observed son 👍
Does the laser colour matter? Like, wouldnt red be best because red light is the warmest light?

@Ambrose Killpack na man you are right on the nail no two modules get set the same they are not synchronized by a factory setting . I did think this as soon as I made the request it could lead to many of us burning our modules out .. This is a wise constructive correction of my theory and thanks for bringing this logical fact to my inquiries as my I don't want to mislead people I to thinking this is an option of accuracy.. I credit your input and the lesson reminded of this theory .. I guess no more than a 10 to 15 degree turn would be a safe limit . Without an LPM .. Damien Omen 6 good good man, how you doing? :) that’s a good idea for a future video. They’re all pretty much the same really, the 532s usually put out 40-50mw from factory so believe it or not, a very minuscule turn could bump it up another 30-40mw. Definitely wanna be careful because sometimes a half a turn could push it beyond what the IR can handle. A recent test I did indicated that apx 77mw of green light was using around 345mw of infrared laser light. Talk about inefficient lol!! But I’ll do a video soon to show this :) thanks again 😊
Ambrose Killpack this is 100 percent true indeed. Cheap laser pointers are like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike. Lol funny you mention this too because I bought 5 green 532s a while back and tested them, especially with the potentiometer tweeked and they of course were all different haha
