i'm not going to be here and tell you what you can and cannot do, so this is for those who have come to this video in search of help: first of all, FINCHES CAN BE TAMED! And it's completely healthy for them, but you need to have patience! 1.) NEVER put your hand in your birds cage! It stresses them out, and finches are very prone to stress-induced shock, which can ultimately be fatal. it will also destroy any trust you two have. 2.) first, don't associate much with your bird the first week you have him. he is traumatized from the transfer, so let him get used to his new surroundings. talk to him and let him get used to your presence. approach the cage and he will eventually understand that you aren't a threat. 3.) you can attach treats to the bars that will attract him away from his usual perch or the back of the cage. he should also have free flight to keep him healthy. (make sure the room is bird proof!) by now, he should know that his cage is a safe place and will return to it on his own. place treats outside of the cage door where he would step out and retrieve them. this will get him used to his outdoor surroundings, including you. 4.) after sometime through this slow process, he will learn to trust you and begin taking food from your hand because he knows you are rewarding him. again, NEVER stick your hand in your bird's cage, unless of course, for some reason, there is an emergency. it can also make him feel as if his cage is not a safe place and he will not want to go back into it if he ever gets out. fyi: no, you do not need two finches. yes, it is preferred, especially if you're busy. but no, it is not that necessary if you are giving him enough attention. hopefully this helps!
I have two finches they seem very scared of me, i try to give them treats but they wont get used to me, i put some greens on the cage and they eat from it, but i feel like im doing something wrong, i feel like they dont trust me, can you help?
Hey there! Thank you for this information! I wish there was more of this info at the time when I was trying to research how to tame him :// I am quite positive I was not the reason he died, but others keep accusing me of that. I am not saying that my method of taming was the best, just my young self trying things out I found worked for others online. If I were to get another finch, I do realize I should not invade his personal space (his cage) as I did so in the video. But as everyone in the comments says, I will give him a heart attack, I do not believe I ever got him close. Anyways, thank you so much for adding this comment and I will be sure to apply it to any birds I may get in the future :)
I remember 5 years ago getting my first ever zebra finch at a market near my house, And when I came home I remember watching this video wanting to learn how to tame my new bird. Anyways fast forward 5 years from now I’m watching this video again because my little friend hasn’t been feeling to well, So all I’ll have to do is spend my last few moments with her 😢🙏🏼
Oh my goodness I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. I know how tough it can be to lose your little friend. I am really touched that you came back to this video and commented this, and I'm here if you ever need anything :)
Hhahah Heheheh I see now how important it would have been for me to mention everything that came before the video. I had spent a quite a few years with him and getting him used to me

Agree. I have a finch and he still has to get use to me. Also putting your hands into the cage is stressful for them. They got to get use to you. I feel bad for this bird
I definitely should have mentioned in the video all of the previous steps that led up to this point. I had had him for quite a few years previous to this and it built up to this, I did not just go in poking at him right away
I handfed a few babies and raised them indoors. I kept one and he became more stubborn as he matured. Were still working on him letting me hold him. He mainly likes to hang on my shoulders or head and picks at my face or clothing. If I get my phone out he insists on watching from the top of the phone. He is my best friend right now.
good job, the way I trained my zebra finch, Vixen, is I just grabbed her and put her on my thumb in the dark, because they cant see good in low light, and when it obeyed more, I tried in the light. By the time the day ended, she was very obedient. If you can make more videos on how to train them to do tricks that would be cool! You earned a sub
As I tried this, my bird tried to fly away in the dark and hit his head to death (it was devastating for me as a kid), so I actually wouldn't recommend this method..
Great job, but Finches are pets you are not suppose to hold. They can have quick heart attacks from just 1 hand movement. I prefer NOT trying to tame a finch or any bird that is not a bird to handle a lot. I am not trying to put any hate on anyone, just giving some friendly advise if that is okay. :)

This method actually works, this morning as soon as I opened the cage he flew away. I tried this and it took me 4-8 hours and then hed let me stroke him a couple of times a bit. Still gotta get him to jump on my finger tho
Started off by letting them settle in for the first night Let them listen to some music on the low volume for a an hour or two for them to get used to noise by this time they started chattering away The next day I started sitting by their cage talking to them with a calm soft tone of voice The day after I stroked my hand on the cadge door whilst still talking to them And then I put food on my hand removes their food bowls and just patiently waited for them to come to me I kept hand in the cadge for half and hour and they started approaching my hand and then one of them was brave and jumped into my hand started eating the seeds And then the other one followed suit On the 4th day I put my hand on the cadge and my arm still talking to them as I did and they jumped straight onto my arm sat there for half an hour moving up and down my arm Day 5 I let them out of the cadge and they were getting used to the living room and found their way back to the cadge Day 6 I let them out to road again and they let me feed them and they were comfortable around me flying around being hyper and would come next to me every now and then day 7 they started jumping on my hand with out any food and they kept coming upto my eat nibbling it 🤣 they were crazy birds
I had two spice finches, but one of their feathers started falling out, and he was dead when I had came home. I was told by their vet that they needed each other to survive, but it’s been months so...... yeah. They don’t necessarily always need another bird to all the people commenting that.
Mochira the minimum for a pair of zebbies is around 24 inches long and 18 inches wide, but that's mostly because they fly for exercise rather than climb like many hook bills do. Look up the reccomend cage size for your bird, it might just be right, and if not then you'll know. ☺️

Cactus 'N Gaming yes but NOT ALL finches can be kept in pairs. Very social birds yes, but maybe the owner could not take care of several at a time. Or maybe the finch did have a partner but something happened to it? I hope I don't start any drama over this... :) Good Day!
My white finch is so smart that when I keep her out of her cage ... she finds the way in.. n she promises her male guy how to come in ... i will shoot it soon ..
i use to have 2 finiches one was more gutty then the other one sadly that finich died and now my other finish is way more jumpy she got use to haveing a budgie friend in the same cage with her and thanks to akasha (the budgie she protects dahvie (finish) from locky (cockatial) but the three are getting along sadly the 3 birds arent tamed but we are slowly getting locky hand tamed again aksha needs her wings cliped so we can hand tame her but dahvie will be harder cos shes such a tiny bird and a huge house along with a huge cage for 3 birds dont mix with a small bird that can get stuck in tiny places and get lost believe me i turned my own bedroom into a mess trying to find dahvie when i let her out once only to find her in my heel boot where i couldnt see her since shes a dark finch lol
I thought finches were social birds and owners needed at least two tow keep finches happy.

Sometimes females get bullied by male finches so it's better to get 2 females just to be sure they will get along
i'm not going to be here and tell you what you can and cannot do, so this is for those who have come to this video in search of help:
first of all, FINCHES CAN BE TAMED!

And then the other one followed suit
On the 4th day I put my hand on the cadge and my arm still talking to them as I did and they jumped straight onto my arm sat there for half an hour moving up and down my arm

Cactus 'N Gaming yes but NOT ALL finches can be kept in pairs. Very social birds yes, but maybe the owner could not take care of several at a time. Or maybe the finch did have a partner but something happened to it? I hope I don't start any drama over this... :) Good Day!
Cactus 'N Gaming no they don't

My white finch is so smart that when I keep her out of her cage ... she finds the way in.. n she promises her male guy how to come in ... i will shoot it soon ..
watched only 30 seconds because you have a cage so means you are not bonding
i use to have 2 finiches one was more gutty then the other one sadly that finich died and now my other finish is way more jumpy she got use to haveing a budgie friend in the same cage with her and thanks to akasha (the budgie she protects dahvie (finish) from locky (cockatial) but the three are getting along sadly the 3 birds arent tamed but we are slowly getting locky hand tamed again aksha needs her wings cliped so we can hand tame her but dahvie will be harder cos shes such a tiny bird and a huge house along with a huge cage for 3 birds dont mix with a small bird that can get stuck in tiny places and get lost believe me i turned my own bedroom into a mess trying to find dahvie when i let her out once only to find her in my heel boot where i couldnt see her since shes a dark finch lol
