I’m a canine and feline behavior specialist of 25 years. Thousands of dogs have gone through my hands. Pitties are truly unique. Last week a student of mine asked what dogs are enjoy rehabilitating the most. My immediate answer was: Pit Bulls. If only people would stop believing the bad reputation that we inherited from late 90s and early 2000s media, people would see what wonderful dogs they are.
I hate how Pitbulls are so shamed. They are such amazing and goofy dogs
People don't understand its the owner not the dog.
Gosh the replies are just arguments, I didn't think that would happen!
I know, people do have the urge to even put shock collars, etc on them. Not just pitbulls, it happens to MANY other dogs!!
Criminals use--and abuse--pit bulls to make money from dogfighting or to guard drug stashes. That's where pitties' bad name comes from.
Bully mix are the majority breed which is why there's so many issues. Just the majority is owning bully breeds along with retriever breeds but look at what's in shelters. Bully mixes. Even our shelter has nothing but Bully mixes.
People walking down the road with their dog? Bully mix.
Pay attention to the Vets and if it's not a hound/hunting/retriever breed it's a Bully breed. Bully breeds are the ines in the shelters more because they are the ones abandoned more because they are the ones abused more.
Even my area is still fighting hidden dog fight areas. Fee years back a conditioning collar made out of logging chains was found. Weighed 10 lbs.
Well, an angry chihuahua is not going to kill you but an angry pitbull could. Dog breeds are real and Pitbulls were expressly bred to fight and they have an inherent aggression that can rear up if they aren't trained well.
Most people don't want to take that chance because they're ignorant about the training aspect, especially if they have kids at home.

I've been struggling with anxiety and depression for a long time. Last year, I began having panic attacks. Our shelter pittie, who's never been trained, immediately found me and laid down beside me with her head in my lap until I calmed down. She does this every time I'm anxious. She's the sweetest, most affectionate thing who just wants to be loved in return. Pitbulls are not vicious. They just have the bad luck of sometimes getting awful owners. But they are absolute angels.
They feel see and hear everything...even emotions that are not expressed. When you say they know what's up...believe it
They know you better than you know yourself sometimes. they pick up on your habits.
My dog goes everywhere with me and once and a while driving, someone does something stupid in another car, so I think to myself a bunch of cuss words and my dog usually lifts his head up in the back of my SUV to see if I’m OK.

@@dabullzfan25 every single one of my neighbours simultaneously, man. And every tree in the city just dropped pollen all at once. And it’s ragweed season. And I was dusting so there’s some in my eyes, too
Animals understand far more than many folks realize. And seeing an orange card followed by that dog leaving with someone is not a very complex pattern. Plus they are quite intuitive, sensing peoples' emotions, etc. I'm glad Papa experienced the JOY of the orange card himself!

They see a card not an orange card just a card. Dogs are color blind
@@jmee425 Red/green colorblind, so yeah, and orange card would be a gray or pale yellow. If they used a blue or bright yellow card, the dogs could absolutely see the color.

Yes that connection with a pittie is amazing. I fell in love with my child at first glance. My boyfriend walked right past her and I said “babe, I want her”, but he had some reservations. We took her to the play area and she immediately went between his legs to hide and followed him around any time he moved, staring at him the whole time with the most sweetest, beautiful brown eyes. I told him he no longer had a choice because she already knew he was her daddy. We’ve had her 6 years now and I can’t imagine life without her. She has him wrapped around her big, chunky paws. Lol. My only regret is that I wasn’t there when she was born so I could prevent whatever nasty things she went through. She’s the best dog-child anyone could ask for.

Pitbulls are amazing pets, they don't deserve being banned in certain places, they're such sweethearts
I totally agree they are lovely dogs but in some places they are exploited and used to be a big source of money for gangs that’s why! and also if those dogs got out and attacked a child it would look bad for the county.
i know a few as close personal friends and their loyalty never ceases to amaze me
My aunt had a pit mix. It attacked me and four other people before it had to be put down. Pitbulls have the potential to cause much more damage than most other dog breeds. If you where going to be attacked by a dog that intends to cause great bodily harm. Would you rather be attacked by a Jack Russell Terrier or a Pitbull? Be honest.

@@ericdunthorne1981 let's just ignore every other big dog breed out there then? And let's not forget about the amount of serious cases of dog attacks coming mostly from smaller dogs. It was not because it was a pit mix, it was because whoever trained that dog did a terrible job or was abusing them.
I teared up. Every animal deserves a home. (I live with four rescue cats.). Thank you for not giving up on those in your orbit. You are literally their angel and their savior.

Twelve years ago I got a pitbull from the SPCA. My neighbor downstairs from me got thrown out for having crack whores. He didn't even ask anyone if they wanted her and he took her straight to the SPCA. Well I already knew the dog really well and I couldn't leave her there. She was barely a year old and in doggie jail and she did nothing wrong. I had to pay money and get her fixed for them to let me take her. Best decision I ever made! She's getting pretty old now but doing well.

God, I love what that guy did for the pitties. We rescued one recently and she's so special to all of us in the family. Best dogs ever!

Thank you for working so hard to find them homes. Both our pits came from the shelter and they are just fantastic dogs. Our APBT/Catahoula had originally been left there as a pup, was adopted, then returned four years later. He had been there about 6 months when we took him home six years ago. He was big, didn't trust people - especially men, unsocialized, and needed a break. He needed a lot of work and understanding to reverse what his life had been, but he has become the best dog. Incredibly loyal and protective, he seems to love his life and home where he has anything he could ever want. He was a bit of work, but I would take him any day of the week.
Our other Staffordshire Terrier is a cream puff. She spent maybe a hard hour on the "mean streets" and we adopted her before she had been in the shelter more than a few days. She is super people oriented, very smart, and loves the easy life. We're pretty sure she is half clown and half hooligan.

This is what these dogs need. People that understand they can need work and time to adjust. You can't fit every shelter dog into your "box." You surely saved him by not giving up. You're amazing!

I personally think most of the small dogs are not “pretty”. Big dogs all the way.
Honestly tho there are valid reasons to have small dogs. Many houses and apartments have a weight limit on dogs. Big dogs are more expensive. Big dogs are harder to transport. Living with a big dog is like living with another person , they physically take up room as does their stuff.
Yeah but a big dog can actually protect you, instead of yapping to a point of complete exhaustion. And big dogs eyes tend to fit into their heads without bugging out.
I can’t see a valid reason to keep small dogs.
I think it's the halfway commitment of getting a dog if that makes sense... they're less hassle and major commitment of large dogs. Less long walks, less poop, less food, less space taken up, less fur etc. That being said it can very quickly backfire because little dogs have Big personalities and create equally big messes
My fam has 4 chihuahuas, all of which will poop and pee on the floor and chew up the house if left alone 30+ minutes. Also they bite indiscriminately.
My German shepherd has peed in the house once, 14 years ago when he was a puppy. I just see more pros than cons with big dogs. The worst thing I’ve encountered with my shepherd is that landlords tend not to want to rent to me because of his breed.
What a beautiful video of those 2 babies!! I wish all pitties would have that luck. A couple of years ago, we adopted another senior shelter pittie, and she was the perfect fit with my pack from day one, and still is…with the exception of being terrorized by my Chihuahua!!

There’s a lot of dogs mislabeled as Pit bulls. Including those dogs.
This video had me tear up and I want to say "thank you" to the amazing guy working so hard to get those dogs a home. I need to see something like this in today's world to keep the hope alive.
I remember going to the shelter and finding a pitbull named Oreo there. My aunt already had puppies so she wasn’t able to get him so I was really sad I had to go home. The people working there said he had been in the shelter for such a long time and when he did have one they either had a baby, moved, etc. I became really happy when I found out he was adopted by a friend at my old school. He still has him till this day and they are such good friends who love each other very much. 🥰
So glad they found a home. They're always the first dogs to be put down cause of their breed.

A friend had just texted saying what a fierce breed pit bulls are and how she would never get one for her children. And I was explaining to her that they were, on the contrary, the cutest, goofiest and the most gentle and loving animals. And what a lovely coincidence, just then I saw this video. That is pit bulls though. Given the proper care, they are all goofy tractor dogs. If I were allowed to have them, I would. I know just the dog cart to order. They could pull me around all day.

@@rawjan39 perhaps but definitely has pit regardless, if you don't see it you are blind. Those are American Staffordshire Terriers, more slender build and heads aren't as wide but still square.

I've owned and have been around many different dog breeds in my lifetime(family of veterinarians)... Pitbulls are the most loyal and loving dogs ever. They live to please their human. That's one of the reasons why pitties are used as fighting dogs most often... They will do whatever their owner wants them to do in order to make their owner happy.

I cried so hard when he saw he'd been adopted! He knew he was getting out of there. I hope those dogs never see a cage for the rest of their lives. My they be blessed with Warm beds, good owner's, toy's, treats, and good food the rest of their day's! Long life of love.
