- In this episode I film a big male #lion roaring near the #Chobe river in the early morning. I explain the benefits of Pangolin's specially designed boats for filming while drifting along the river and show some footage of wildlife and birds shot using this method (species names are in the subtitles).
If you missed episode 1: "For the Birds", you can find it here: • For the Birds: 8K Wild...
In this series I'm filming in Chobe National Park, Botswana with Pangolin Photo Safaris. We are spending most of our time on Pangolin's boats capturing the incredible wildlife that congregates along the banks of the Chobe river. Pangolin's boats are specially designed for photography, so they are very stable in the water. This really helps when filming the animals and birds along the river.
Species in this video:
Lion
Nile Crocodile
Waterbuck
African or Cape Buffalo
African Elephant
African Openbill
Great Egret
African Elephant
Purple Heron
Malachite Kingfisher
African Fish Eagle
Common Hippopotamus
Black-crowned Night Heron
Blue-cheeked Bee-eater
Chacma Baboon
We don't make any money from these videos (well, that's not entirely true, we have made about $100 over the lifetime of this channel :). So if you like what we do, please consider supporting us on Patreon: / movingpicturesafrica
Filmed and edited by Robert Hofmeyr. Additional shots by Charl and Sabine Stols. Guided by Keeme Magasele and Charles Matengu.
Special thanks to Pangolin Photo Safaris (www.pangolinphoto.com) for their assistance and support on this collaboration.
Behind-the-scenes shot on a GoPro Hero 10. For the telephoto wildlife shots we used a Canon 200-400mm f4 lens on a Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro 12K. Wide angles and moving shots from the boat were shot using a Red Komodo 6K with a Sigma 18-35 f1.8.

Thank you John! The next one is pretty exciting :)
Amazing photography. A privilege to watch it. Thank you
Thanks Dara. And my pleasure
Wow awesome video.
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Awesome video guys, even with the photographer friendly boats, the footage is incredibly stable.
Thanks! The photography boats are what help make the footage stable. Also Omicron, so fewer other boats on the water causing waves.
epic world class videos. Love Pangolin. Revolutinised my photography.
Thanks Alpesh! Yeah, they are great.
Beautiful cinematography. Brought back great memories of cruising the Chobe with Pangolin.
Glad you enjoyed

This is special Bob .What a feeling must you have when those Lion roared .Thanks for sharing .Pangolin is the best in the business .You've got an incredible setup .
Thanks Sarel. Yeah Pangolin is great. And not just their hotel and boats, they have really cool staff as well.
Another fantastic video! Unreal quality! How many hours a day did you spend on the boat? And how close was that hippo?
Thank you. We probably spent about 10 hours a day on the boat, depending on what was going on. That hippo was pretty close, but I'm not great at estimating distance. Maybe 6m? That's was shot at 200mm so it looks really close :)
So I was curious so I opened the hippo shot and checked the focus distance and it was 8 - 10m. Felt closer :)
@@MovingPicturesAfrica yeah that is about close enough when on a boat.
