  • In the first of a series of news updates from the South Devon Railway, Permanent Way Manager Arran Wild tells us about the major track renewal project taking place on the South Devon Railway during early 2023.
Can you help? This winter we are renewing 1/4 mile of track at a cost of over £150,000. This is only possible thanks to our supporters and volunteers.

From Australia, this is on my list to do later this year.
Good informative update: not too long.
In my state of Victoria, Australia, the only bullhead rail I can recall still in situ is in a siding off the 'Main Line' from Melbourne to Bendigo, opened in 1862, at what was rural but is now peri-urban historic Gisborne. This line is broad gauge, 1600mm, unlike our national standard gauge network that's (obviously) 1435mm.
Great that South Devon Railway runs almost every day. I hope the patronage continues to be good despite all the media headlines about a 'recession'.
