    I love how people are mad at me for telling them how to wear their hats in the same breath that they are telling me how I should or shouldn't wear my hat.

      1033stein tried this for the first time last night on a hat that I had with the higher crown and it worked perfectly. You should get paid from New Era, love some of the Minor League hats but would never buy them until now. Thanks again!

      When i got my first caps at sge 17 I used to use em flat with the crown and sticker... 2 years later I just break em, remove the sticker and idk... I just got tired or idk but you are right lol ;)

      luket905 Not everyone wants to wear a hat that still has the stickers on and with a super straight bill. Personally I think people look like douchebags when they wear hats like that

    This is brilliant! I am a woman with a head so tiny I have to wear kid sizes and even those look utterly ridiculous because of the high crown. I honestly didn't think I could wear fitted hats but I recently found one that I couldn't resist so I tried this method and it worked perfectly. I did this twice, wore it in the shower a few times (without getting it wet), and did the stretch until it pops method (6 3/4 was a smidge too tight) and the hat now fits like a glove. Thank you so much for posting this!

    I looked ridiculous wearing these high crowned hats, I hated it! After running the hat through hot water and drying it several times it still had the high crown. After the blow drying technique it's almost gone!
    Thanks man!

    We used to use midday sun to do this with our little league hats. Of course it would take for ever, but it would work after a few tries. When I was older I discovered this as well lol. But man those were the days! And yes we were lucky enough to have new era authentic hats with our logo on it which was amazing for us at the time. Real little big leaguers 😂. We would throw them, put a ball in the bill and rubber band it over night, talk a parent into running over them with a car, swim in them at the pool, and on and on.. We spent as much time on our hats as we did a new ball glove 😂

    I'm a lifelong Rangers fan (grew up in Dallas) who now lives in Harrisburg, PA, home of the Senators (Nationals AA team). Since the Rangers were once the Senators, it feels like I'm following the Rangers third cousin. So yes, I have Rangers and Nationals hats in my collection. Which is why I followed your tip in the first place. And it worked great! The shower, the oven... I've tried it all and ended up with a wrinkled hat. The hair dryer lets me shape it just right. Thanks!

    Interesting way to do it, but I just take the stickers off and curve the bill a little bit by hand. Good to go. Oh, and sweat from the hot summer heat helps break it in, too! Love these New Era caps.

    just wanted to add this tip: I followed his instructions and did it 3-4 times to make the cap fit better. My wife bought a hair dryer with a diffuser. I used that on the hair dryer and the heat was evenly distributed on the mesh inside of the cap
    Worked great...nice video just wanted to add that.

  • @DFWsportsgnome
    @DFWsportsgnome  12 лет назад +1

    Awesome! I felt the same way about New Era hats until I started working them in a little bit. Now they are all I wear. Remember it's a process. After the initial break in you must keep wearing it, breaking it in, and sweating in it. They get more comfortable and fitted to your head the more you wear them. An announcer on the Nationals broadcast talked about this last night.

  • @DFWsportsgnome
    @DFWsportsgnome  11 лет назад +2

    Man! Who knew this was such a polarizing topic. I bend the bill and shrink the cap because that's what looks best on my head. Flat bills and high crowns make me look like I'm wearing a box on my head.
    I take the tags off because I'm crazy that way. I also take the tags off of shirts, pants, belts, shoes, video games...you name it. I practice a strict tagless existence. On this there is no flexibility.

    Great video DFW. I had just kinda gotten used to wearing the high crown of my 59fifty hats but never was fully comfortable with the shape, all the cool new styles only come in the high crown. I re-shaped about 5 of my Padres and Bama hats last night. It seems to have worked great. Personally a like my bills a little flatter but the crown tips were spot on. I also used a rolled up paper towel while forming it to my head so that it didn't get as tight. Thanks a lot for the video.

    I'm so glad I found this vid. I was just about to try cutting the mesh out of one of my new Cardinals caps, which I'm sure woud have ended in disaster. I tried this and it worked like a charm! I usually buy the low crowns when I can because I hate the look of the high crown, but those can be difficult to find in my size. Now I can just buy the high crown caps and use this method.

    🤔 I believe there’s reason why the “Low Pro 59FIFTY” was created. But I also believe in flying your own flag, wearing it the way you like it, without been badly criticized. With or without (stickers) (crowned) (flat brim) in the end it’s you spending money to please yourself and no one else. Peace ✌️ spread more love & let’s end hate.

    Thank you! I didn't know about high/low crown. BTW, when I was in elementary school in the 80s, only nerds (before they were our overlords) left the bills on their caps flat and wore the hoods of their hoodies on their heads. The cool kids always knew to bend the bills of their caps right away and to never wear their hoods no matter the temperature. How things have changed!

    This video literally saved me over $300 dollars. I bought 8+ 5950 New Era hats online off of Lids, Hatland and New Era.
    They were all 7 1/2's with extremely high crowns. I've been trying to sell my brand new hats for $5 or give them to my buds with bigger domes then me.
    I found out all the 5950's that have this problem were made in China. I have 25 5950's, and the 9 that are made in China they're the only ones that look like this. The rest are made in the USA and fit fine.

  • @DFWsportsgnome

    Thanks for the comments, guys. 39thirty's are decent hats, but not even close to the quality or fit of 59fifty's. I have some 39thirty's that I'll wear to do chores in, but the 59fifty is a superior product. This video is intended to help anyone not a fan of the high crown get a better fit. Comments about SWAG or stickers were simply a joke and not to be take seriously. Wear your hats however you like. This is just one option.

    Just did 3 hats and it actually worked perfectly. I heated the 3 inside arches then fit my cap accordingly to shape it. After a minute or so the arch was lowered significantly. You can also apply the heat in front of the hat and curve it. As for the brim it's also a nice way to apply the heat underneath it.

The designs I like are all the 59fifty but I just can't do the flat bill, high crown look myself. It's almost if people don't know all designs don't come in both styles, but then again that's too easy of a thing for people to find out before making such ridiculous comments. Will definitely give this a try.

    Thank you!!!!!!!! The only hats that fit my Fat head are size 8 fitted hats. Nothing else. Fitted hats are high crown flatbills. You solved my problem!!!!!

    I bought my hat one size too big and slightly dampened the panels I wanted to shrink with a wet wash rag. As I dampened the panels I had the blow dryer on high hot and it turned out perfect . Way better than running hit water through the hat.

    Thanks for the tips! I've been ordering the 5950 low crown caps off the internet but think they look kind of small on my head sometimes. I don't like the train conductor hat look on the crown so I will definitely be giving this a try. Great tips even if your a Rangers fan. GO STROS!!! :-)

    Thank you so much, I've bought them for years and I've always used the shower method but this is a much better. I live in the UK and I agree the 59Fifty that are made in the USA are different and far superior to the ones made in China. I'll be using this method from now on.

    Thank you so much for this i tried on a 59fifty the other day and looked like a big idiot, because the crown was too big. So i decided to just buy the golf nike hats, it just fit better and looks better on me. But i'll be trying this method out on the New Era hats i like em better because of the huge catalog they have and that nice embroidery on them.
