@@CameronCooper but you still play it great brother! That extended stuff I think I heard it at a Detroit gig? Very cool working that out, one of the cleanest versions on RUclips 🤟
I still have problems nailing that tap part but it's fun to keep trying! Any one else remember their first time hearing this? I remember the first time I heard it I thought it was the equipment breaking, or it also sounded like a computer malfunctioning and my last guess when I was kid was it sounded like aliens were talking. This intro still remains a huge mystery as to how in the world he came up with it. The first time I saw him play this live I was blown away that it wasn't a pedal or trick. it was pure raw talent and pushing the guitars boundaries and what it could do. So many years later and still people just like me are intrigued by the musical genius of this intro. I love it. Long live EVH!
This is amazing ... being a van halen fan i can easily say that you first got the "sound" of this and you are doing perfectly ... jeez , you jenious :)
yep sure it helps . i know the slap part ( not so perfect as you do ) and i am trying to figure out the descending part from 00.12 to 00.14 , even that part it's a quite famous thing eddie was doing live in the early 80s ! you rock Cameron ! waiting once you can and have time for the famous lick triads you shown in one of your previous videos ! there is a lot to learn from you ! you are younger but you play better than any guitarist i saw here around ! keep on rocking :)
A-ma-zing !! I don't know why, but I have a feeling that when I'm gonna start practicing on my own guitar... it just won't sound the same ;-) Thanks for sharing your technique though. The first time I heard this intro, something like 25 years ago, I just went nuts. Can't say I have recovered since then.... Showing the rest of the intro in a Meanstreets Guitar lesson #2 would be fabulous (just sayin'... :-)
Here cuz of Joe! Thanks for the lesson Man Stil can’t play it, but it s cool knowing the science behind it You’re the closest I’ve heard to evh with all ur playing I’ve learned a lot from u man!! I’ve learned to appreciate eddies rhythm over the years more in songs like unchained and Jamie’s cryin
Nice lesson .the only person I have heard that can nail the end part of that solo with the really high volume is Nuno bettencourt. It sounds like the guitar is saying "stop"! Very marshally sound
I Cameron I find It very helpful and clear but I don't understand the concept of the string's action. Do you use a high or a low action on your guitar to make this riff? I understand a very low action..it's correct?!
Defintely not a low action. It's just gotta be high enough for the strings to sound alive. If it's too low tap harmonics are really hard to coax out. There isn't a specific height just so long as there is no buzz and I can get a good purchase of the strings
I will Cameron, it's terrific lick and Fair Warning is one of my favorite VH albums. I got to see that tour when I was a teenager. It was my first VH concert and was life changing! I believe I was 13. Keep rockin!
Hey Cameron! That is amazing! But, you are not playing the intro from the album, you seem to be playing what I came across some time ago - a live solo from a gig in Buenos Aires? Can you show us how to play the rest of it? You know, what you played at the start? The progressive taps up the fretboard?
I know I am not playing what's on the album because I found the live versions a lot more interesting. I may do a video on something like that in the future. Despite my recent content, I am going to try and put some distance between VH themed content and fill it with other things I am working on.
@@CameronCooper Hi again. No, apologies, but you misunderstand me - I was not asking you to show how to do the album version - I was asking you to show the rest of what you were actually doing in your video - You know the little two string tap ons (I think that's what you were doing?) I agree with you completely - the live versions are much more interesting; particularly in this case!
I don't know why people in general are making such a big deal out of Satch playing Meanstreets. He doesn't even need to play it on this coming tour anyway. He just played it to prove Eddie's ability to write stuff that would be considered to most players impossible to play or come up with.
@@CameronCooper LOL no no no - I mean in the intro to that song.. :P At any rate - THANK YOU. You continue to inspire. I learned from you just now that it is much easier to control the rest of the harmonics while muting if I damp the strings at the first fret. CHEERS!
@@CameronCooper I don't think that's it. I looked that up and it's different. I'm talking about the technique where the fretting hand does a hammer-ons and pull offs while the other palm slides over the pickups. The technique is played briefly right at the time-stamp. 0:28
Thanks but Joe will figure it out. It's silly that Joe's getting so much hate from people who most likely can't even play You Really Got Me properly. I'm not saying that's you at all, I'm just putting it out there.
There was a lot of dumb comments. About that He didn’t rehearse it. Howard asked hi what was the hardest. Thing evh did. Satch. Was honest mean street. But had zero idea he was going to play it but. Satch with a couple months. Will have it wired. Nobody. Is playing mean street with out working on it
The fact about Eddie is this: Others may be able to play it, but no one came up with it but him. He was a master innovator and composer as well.
I think that's what everyone thinks about Eddie to be honest. I can't imagine someone disagreeing with that.
@@CameronCooper but you still play it great brother! That extended stuff I think I heard it at a Detroit gig? Very cool working that out, one of the cleanest versions on RUclips 🤟
@Tom Jones Anyone can make it sound like that if they work on it long enough

awesome!! wanted to learn this from ages! really helpfull to know that the left hand is important too, thanks mate!
3 dislikes must be people who can't do it or don't play...
This is exactly what I needed rn.
Glad it helped Matt :)
In my opinion, the most fun guitar piece by eddie to play! Great video as well!
People always bring up Eruption but I think this is Eddie's greatest guitar moment. The stuff he came up with man Lol
Just watchrd a dozen of these, and you are the only one doing it correctly. Wish that delay and verb was off my brother
Thx man ! Really great playing my and tutorials! You do an amazing job! Kudos from Ohio USA 🇺🇸
Hey Cam,
Awesome Lesson!!
Thanks!!
Cool
yeahhhhhhhh! Master of Riffs!!
Nice change up Cooper! More! :-). After your studies of course....
Thank you Tony! :)

bout time you started doing some lessons. :O)
Thank you. I hope it helps. I have done lessons for a long time just not on specific pieces as such. :)
Cameron is he using a light touch with that slapping or is he hitting it hard.
I wouldn't say so.
Hot !
kickass!!

0:24 what is that technique called?
Can your do a lesson on the slide lick u did after the mean street intro? Always wanted to know how eddie would do that.
Great lesson thanks! Btw what camera do you use?
Hi. I use a Canon Legria camera. I hope the lesson was helpful :)
Cheers Cam, it was really helpful and great playing as usual.
I've always wondered how Eddie did that shit lol. Cool!
Nicely done! Were you running your guitar through an EVH lunchbox?
Nick Weatherhead Thank you. I wasn't using a an EVH or a valve amp even. I was using a Yamaha THR10X
What is that palm mute trick called how do you do that

It’s “MEAN STREET”!!! Read the album cover… ITS FRICKEN “MEAN STREET” !!!
