      the reason the braids at the top are crossed is so that when the client parts her hair she can part it to the middle, the left or the right and have the hair stop at an appropriate spot on her head instead of going all the way back. basically it allows the hair to flow naturally when it's parted.

    Crochet really isn't bad on the hair it all depends on how you take care of your hair before and after the style great job love it

    I have tried this pattern( and without criss crossing) and it "Works", especially for a pony tail. I do sew in the last braid because for "Me", its secure enough to shampoo my braids.

    another great tutorial!! such a myth buster too. The last hairdresser i went to for crochet braids, used wool to stitch the cornrows together. I was pressed for time so didn't express any doubt. Thankyou @Beautycanbraid. I will now practice this on my sister.

    What's the difference between this pattern and just braiding straight to the back? Does the final look be any different?

      +Tamara Jones It's to be able to have a part on either side with the crotchets and have it stop in the appropriate place on the scalp instead of going all the way to the back of the head.

Is it the famous criss cross braid pattern or the one where you braid ten at top n then horizontally(side to side) in the back?

    The thumbnail image shows a Cornrow at the nape of the neck..not seeing it here. Only seen the end where you took the last Cornrow and pulled it back through all the loops. Basically what I'm asking is: can this pattern be used for majority crochet styles? And do you need a Cornrow going across the nape of the neck like in your picture?

    I tried this on a few clients and needed more pre- made crochets. Some clients want just enough while others like it full. This pattern was nice though
