The weight difference is not that much. A pound or two at most. The main difference we did this was to replace the stock door panels which were in pretty bad shape.
They’re curved everywhere, so making a template with curves meant we would need equipment to make clean bends and we didn’t have it. These are getting replaced with ScottRod ones soon anyway 🤷🏻♂️
The stock panels weighed quite a bit, and the aluminum sheet weighs close to nothing. It’s not much of a difference but it looks a lot better than no panel at all. These were temporary however as the doors are going to get cut soon.
The stock ones are curved at the top. This was just a quick way to get rid of the crusty door panels that were in the car. And once you make one you can use that as a template for the second one.
How much weight save? Did you weight the difference in aluminum total the piece cut out? Thanks for video.

Did you use self tapping screws or rivets?
Self tapping screws
Where did you put the window switch harness ?
It's all tucked inside the door in case I want to use it in the future. I was also looking to cut a hole to mount it in the stock location.
How much was the sheet of aluminum and where did you buy it at?
Sheets are usually super cheap. I bought mine at a place called Schorr Metals in Anaheim. They usually have scrap pieces you can buy for dirt cheap.
@Gripworkz what size was the sheet
That was so long ago I don’t remember
it was a weight reduction plan? why not leave them without panels?

@@Gripworkz please post the cut!
Why didnt you just use the door panel for a template?

Should have cut the doors and then add the the aluminum.
