In this video you can see my DASH and the game is that what you are after? If it is it's a setting in OBS that records different aspects, I cannot remember at the moment how I used to do this but I'll check up for you. There is a difference between recording ED on it's own and recording the Headset Image if I remember. I'll check tonight and get back to you.
Sussed it - I used OCULUSMIRROR.exe, see this video to find it on your machine, ruclips.net/video/cSDr2qX_DhY/видео.html. At the moment you are probably recording the ELITE CLIENT which only records the Elite Screen on your desktop. Run OculusMirror.exe, this shows an image on screen of what you are actually looking at in the VR headset, therefore, if you are playing Elite with DASH pinned you'll see that in the OculusMirror window. Now set OBS to record the OculusMirror window and not the ED Client window. I hope this helps. I think you can get a wider better recording using this, it might take some setting up to get it right though.
In my experience, 9 times out of 10, the window turns dark grey after using the menu button to return to the game/hide the VR nav bar. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
Byron W - When I put this video up this “grey” screen you’re getting wasn’t an issue, I’m now getting the same. With a bit of perseverance resizing and repositioning the dash window you can get it to work. I’ve raised the issue with Oculus and they are working on a fix after admitting they can recreate the problem. There is a workaround but it’s not brilliant. I’ll add this to this reply tomorrow. I also have a link to a video showing the issue which I will add the url here for you to check it’s the same issue. Sorry I can’t be more helpful at this stage. P
OK Here is the workaround :- Click your flat MENU BUTTON on the right hand controller and select SETTINGS from the 'fan' menu in front of you, select GRAPHICS from the left hand menu, at the bottom you'll see ENABLE VR LAYERS, turn it off. go back in game. This will stabilise the grey but I get a lot of flickering instead and prefer just to persevere with resizing the window until it's stable and visible in game, see what you think?
@@cmdrpausanias2332 That's what I see, yes. I've only tried this selecting a specific window. I'll tool around with it more today. Thanks for your help.
I tried turning off VR layers... Just awful! Re-enabled the option and set my virtual window to 1.0 scale and zoom in/out as needed. That was working for a few minutes, but then one of the Oculus services crashed which now causes the virtual windows to only show an orange circle and exclamation mark. I'll try again later.
The dashboard simply will not pop up for me when I hit the flat button on the touch controller. There's haptic feedback, but nothing pops up. Any pinned windows I have also pop in and out and will not stay
Are you in game when these windows close again? If yes, it sounds like you may have a problem, raise a ticket with Oculus, they are pretty good at getting back.
Hi Darkzide - It's a special command in Voice Attack, set it up like this: FOCUS ELITE as the command name, use MOUSE> and set LEFT CLICK MOUSE BUTTON, then down the page further you should see SEND COMMAND TO THIS TARGET on mine I have an option for ACTIVE WINDOW or ELITE - DANGEROUS CLIENT from a drop down menu select ED CLIENT and OK. Now when you say FOCUS ELITE it should left click your mouse for you and select the ELITE SCREEN, see if it works for you. You can also set here other commands to go to other screens that are listed on your set-up. Hope this helps, don't forget to subscribe!
This isn't an App as such it's built in to Oculus products such as the Rift, pressing the Oculus Logo on the Right Hand Hand Controller brings it up. It the bottom right hand corner there is a Drawing Pin logo, pointing and clicking on that will 'pin' the window in your environment in VR. I hope this helps.
I was using the Oculus Dashboard but it seems the last ED update broke it. Anyone has the same problem? sometime it works sometime doesn't. Sometime it seems the overlay it is just covered by the game and the dashboard performances when it is not working well are really bad.
Hi Ruggero, can you put up a video of the issue? I got in touch with Oculus when I was having a problem with Dash when it kept going black on me. It took them ages but that now seems fixed. I posted a RUclips of the problem for them to view. P
@@cmdrpausanias2332 not sure how I can make a video of the issue, may be you can suggest how? A thing I noticed in your video is that when you open the Dashboard you can't see ED while instead I still van see the game. The video instead you posted for Oculus it says I can't see it... @@cmdrpausanias2332 Hi, I managed to make a video you can find at this link ruclips.net/video/1AB-9M0ueZQ/видео.html Here you can see that the first time I open the dashboard while in ED it works fine but as soon as I select again the ED windows well... you will see... also you will see that clicking out of ED window again will make the dashboard working properly again unless if I'm already in the ship and may be already used the galaxy map, in that case it's really hard it works again and mostly I can also see the Oculus logo appears like it is restarting.
I believe yes. The game certainly has a whole host of commands that can be allocated to a keyboard (see the Control section in Options in-game) as per the 1984 version, remembering where they all are would be a challenge though! I do know some players use the mouse to manoeuvre their ships very successfully, but I have to point out I am not an expert on this. I only really have experience with a HOTAS system of control supplemented by the keyboard and mouse use.
@@cmdrpausanias2332 I was talking about the overlay not E:D ;) im looking for a overlay for e:d to look up stuff on inara without putting the headset down and without using a vr controller.
@@MrSimon1909 I'm not sure if I can answer this here completely - watch the video, during it at about 4mins15secs you'll see me use my mouse on the browser I have pinned and change it to Inara, the only drawback is (as explained in the video) that I had taken the FOCUS off ED on my desktop and made my browser active, when I need to continue with gameplay I need to refocus ED as the main window. I do this with a voice command I have set up, to do it manually means 'guessing' where the pane is on your main desktop and clicking, having you're entire desktop open in Dash helps enormously with this task, or using Voice Attack to re-focus. As regards your keyboard, there is a program on my windows system called ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD, this is built into Windows 10 I believe but this can be opened and pinned into the Dash experience in the same way as other windows, again you need to use your mouse to click the keys to type rather than your fingers. Same again though having your whole desktop open in VR allows you to see the game, your browser, this keyboard and anything else you have open on your desktop. I hope this helps. Another tip for keyboard use is that I have a lump of bluetack on my delete key and further lumps on the V, G, I keys, with my right hand finger I can find the delete key easily on my actual keyboard, then use my left hand to find V, G or I and use those keys to reference all the other keys without being able to see my keyboard, a kind of braille! It works quite well. I might try and do a video showing using the whole use of your desktop in VR following your questions, keep an eye out for it.

Me too, can't tab out. Maybe bc steamvr is running too. I bought several overlay apps and refund again bc nothing works in Ed.
What keystroke does it use when you say "focus elite"? Is it alt+tab or is there some other key bind?
